Since when are Redguards... white? : V - Skyrim

Me? No, I'm serious. The first time I've noticed a Redguard that actually looks like a black African was when Kraigus Maximus posted those screenshots.

Well, fair enough. I'm just surprised you don't think Amren looks like he's of African descent.

I would say my own Redguard character is a candidate for not quite looking traditionally Redguardish. I used the Dreadlock options.. gave him some more hawkish features. He sort of resembles a darker Jason Mamoa, who's mixed Asian and Polynesian.

I can't recall any white redguards... anyway, the randomly generated ones may have gotten an overly white skin in your game.

yh lost me completely?? What has mosques got to do with Hammerfell in the first place?? I never mentioned them. This is a fantasy game that does mirror certain influences from our own ancient world?

Of course. I brought up the Mosques to illustrate the point that the Redguards aren't supposed to be a single, generic "The Black People" race. You then decided to contest the fact that there are Mosques in Hammerfell, for whatever reason.

We were talking about the appearance of the Redguard ranging from lighter Arabian / Mediterranean to black African and I mentioned the fact it is centred on a massive desert which to me is like the Sahara desert which also happens to have people ranging from black African to lighter Arabian / Mediterranean looking people living around it.

I agree completely. There's no one single color that the Redguards are supposed to be.

The OP (I think?) does have a funny point about dark skinned Nords though.

Try having pale skin, and spending most of your time in the snow. You'll get tanned eventually, since snow reflects light so well.
Plus, you'll eventually get tanned and wrinkly, just like our Vignar, since tanning ages the skin.

The Redguards are probably like the various peoples of our own Sahara desert. Some tribes like the Berbers are lighter skinned, while others are black.

In lore Hammerfell was part of the Empire for centuries so some should also be of mixed blood.

I wouldn't be playing myself if it was some kind of intentionally caucasian centric game. I'm Asian and Scandinavian. I'm at least part minority. I get pissed about racism in the real world. But I don't see it here.

I really don't care how a screenshot turned out, in my game every redguard is yummy dark chocolate skinned, all imperials are latino's and all Nords and Bretons are whitey's.
So in my game they all look fine to me

Everyone knows this quest. In the game she looks like a Redguard. Dark skin, looking pretty much like African in the real world. However in that link she looks like a white/Caucasian girl.

Also, I noticed several Alik'r during the quest appear to be white/Caucasian as well. Why is that? I thought Redguards where DARK skinned?

I know it's petty but it is annoying to me being big on true-to-lore stuff. You can make a white Redguard character, as well as a black Nord. Lol, I r sew comfoozed.

No idea but I seen white skinned, african americans....Dark skinned Asians....Dark skinned Caucasians ... etc.

No, I'm not trolling. I was mistaken, though. UESP's Amren is in shadow; you can't see his features. I looked Amren up on Google now and ja, okay, he http://images.wikia.com/elderscrolls/images/3/35/Amren.jpg look African. Yay. Two African people. :tongue:

Would be pretty cool to see TES VI put a little more effort into facial structure, though.

(Anyway, my comment is not so much about race as it is about socio- and geopolitics. But it's to be expected. The African market isn't much of a gaming market.)

Yeah she is black in my game too. But a couple of the Alik'r guards during the quest were actually white. And one of the two guys chilling at the Whiterun gate once the quest is finished and done with -- is white too.

I don't see the problem... Not all black people are that dark, and maybe they had mixed race parents...

Redgaurds are dark(er) they are based mainly off of middle eastern peoples. Middle Eastern peoples are generally not super dark.

To the OP: In the link she doesn't look too racially white. Now that we are in this subject, what happened to the black color eyes? I see Redguards with blue eyes and I believe grey eyes which, even though that can happen in real life, it isn't that usual than black eyes.
