Skyrim and how it svcks

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 1:45 pm

I'v been playing the game for 43 hours according to steam and I think Skyrim is the best TES game I've played (I have played 4 and 3) but that doesn't stop it svcking.

My main gripe is in combat and how unbalanced it is. There is no middle ground for damage output. With expert and master most enemies will just own you (you die to 2-3 hits) which leads to only one or two viable tactics (ie sneaking with magic or magic with sneaking). If you play on lower than expert you pretty much own everybody with any build.

The Melee combat is also bad (not as bad as oblivion). Playing a melee character in skyrim is like shooting yourself in the knee (unless you use knife, doesn't matter which knife they are all op). Goodluck trying kill a mountain lion on expert with a melee charater (because if it doesn't get cletched you are dead). Seriously Dark Messiah was released in 2006 just copy paste it and make it less brutal (well on higher difficulties it could be brutal)

Problem number x is the "I win" -health system. Ain't it nice when you use inventory time pauses. Bethesda could have used any other health system. For example is witcher 1 you could use hp potion during combat but all potions would toxicate you and if you were too toxicated you would die (I believe it was 3 potions and 4th would kill you)

Also removal of various spell effect saddens me. Silence would be really handy.

ps. Knives use no stamina and can have 30x sneak attack bonus. Also there is no dodge (oblivion had dodge) and some enemies can't be out run or dodged like mountain lion.

Funny, I play with spellsword... and the only things that even come close to killing me are Ancient dragons of If I decide to give enemies a chance by turning into a werewolf.

Bethesda have put their own unique style on the game and if you don't like it then don't play it.

Master is a walk in the park if you factor in smithing/alchemy/enchanting. Everything about it is unbalanced in some way but I think you're being a bit hyperbolic in general.

Yeah, sounds to me like you're just bad at the game.

if you don't upgrade your armor, you have to play on the balanced adept mode. this one becomes way too easy when you start to upgrade your gear with stuff like enchanting and smithing. this is the moment where you increase the difficulty.

it's not bethesda's fault that you can't think yourself.

edit: just that you know: adept scales 1:1. master 0,5/2. this means your dmg gets cut in half and the enemies dmg is getting doubled.

This is not the kind of game that should be played like an FPS, because its an RPG.
All these things you describe simply have no effect on my roleplaying.

You mean sabre cats? No mountain lions in skyrim.
I like the difficulty spikes, stops you being complacent. You had to push the difficulty slider in OB to have any danger of dying, anywhere.
Have to agree with you about the amount of spell effects. I keep saying this, but even if they only used poison and disease scripts already in the game as spells, you would have slow, drain magicka and stamina regeneration, drain melee damage and weakness to elemental/magic/poison damage.

What i find with all the TES games I've played (4-6) is that you have to manually change the difficulty setting depending on your level. In Skyrim normal difficulty is fine in the beginning but as you progress you should raise the difficulty when things become too easy.

This.
I play the game to tell a story, to live the life of my character. The best moments in the game, for me, are all character driven - how my character reacts to certain events, befriends certain NPCs, makes certain decisions and often changes dramatically over the course of their lives.

To me, Skyrim and TES in general aren't about combat, fighting and killing things. They're about personal experiences, about character development and the character.

If you want a game specifically built for fighting, play CoD or a similar first person shooter, in my opinion. Skyrim isn't going to meet the standards of a FPS, simply because it's not specialized towards combat like a FPS is.

master difficulty is aimed at those who spend time with their character, if you don't have the patience to develop then it's not for you i believe

I play Skyrim to have fun and explore. I'm never fussed about difficulty when I play this game, I have Forza's gradually ratcheting hardness in World Tour Mode, and the beastly level of competition online to give me the challenge-fix. :)

I agree. skyrim is more action than RPG and the combat needs to be overhauled. Dark Messiah has better melee combat and that come out ages ago.

I didn't enjoy Skyrim combat until I installed the Deadly Combat mod, and upped the difficulty to master. Now I really need to be on my toes during battles.. Block attacks, dodge powerattacks, interrupt casters etc. And followers are actually useful now.

You are obviously new to RPG elder scrolls. You must be. You talk about damage output when i can kill a draugr deathlord in two hits on master difficulty on the xbox. Do you by any chance use smithing to upgrade weapons?

Sabrecats are easy.

And I don't use smithing. Or heavy armour. Or a shield. And I'm playing on Expert.

Not at a low level, they're not. I remember finding my first one, at about level 5 or so. On my way to Iverstead, one attacked me and I only had a tiny bit of health left. I just ran for dear life ...
