but yeah wow is kind of cool but its a kiddy game now. i did some quests that were literally baby games having me press giant buttons that match the buttons that pop up on the screen and make goofy sounds when you get them right. it was borderline insulting, and the npcs are all poons they say go kick this guys butt and "what the heck." Also many classes are becoming the same now. Its so common to see spells from a different class just made to look different. Also blizard cares nothing for freedom of choice when playing. If you check out their dev things or whatever its always them saying" We don't want you to be doing this and this, we want you to be using this for this, so we're making it impossible to do what you were doing with it."

example: They nerfed drain life to death because some people were using it more than the basic lvl 1 base warlock damage spell. They literally were like "We see people using this spell a lot, and we think its too useful. We want you to use this spell more. So were cutting the damage of drain life in half"

also they waste recourcess on special useless paid content. Now you can buy like 25 dollar mounts that do nothing but look cool. And little companions that follow you around and do nothing. They make you pay for transfering realms, changing faction, race, and even just changing your name. They also completely neglect certain apects of the game. Druids for example were completely made over in recent years getting new looks for their shapeshifts and the ability to customize them. BUT...not for druids that use magic, only for feral druids. The other druids got a [censored] placeholder model, which is just a monster from the vanilla game and still do. What you mostly see with blizzard is running around seeing how many crying noobs they have to submit to to keep sales from dropping. A lot of those noobs came here, apparently. They are all about money, they just said that they are desecrating diablo 3 by addign an auction house...that uses real [censored] money. Yeah you wan't that rare [censored] you're gonna have to pay real cash LOL [censored] THAT

Wow, the elitism in this thread is so thick you can cut it with a knife...

Anyways, there are a few things from WoW I'd love to see incorporated into Skyrim or a future TES game.

The first of them is the map size. Oblivion and Skyrim are roughtly 16 square miles. Vanillia WoW, before any of the expansions, was roughly 80 square miles. And that's only gone up with the expansions. I'd absolutely love to have a TES game that large. We might finally see decent sized cities and towns if it was. It also wouldn't feel cramped.

A greater variety in dungeon bosses would be nice. As was said earlier, you can only fight Draugr Deathlords so many times. Especially when they all fight the same way. It's very rare in Skyrim to find a unique dungeon boss, like, say, Potema.

I'd also like to see WoW's spell variety. It has a lot more spells than Skyrim and they come in a much greater variety. Not just the spells themselves, but also the spell effects.

That's a few, anyways. I could probably think of others.

Given the huge popularity of WoW one can safely assume there are many WoW players on every gaming forums, even moreso in an RPG official forums. So, dare I ask fellow wow-ers, is there any component of WoW that you love and wish it was imported in Skyrim?

Not particularly, no. I try to play different games when I want different playstyles/etc, rather than wishing that "all my favorite features" would be stuck into every game I play.

Except WoW and TES already share mechanics anyway...

The same could be said of any RPG style game. WoW doesn't have the lock on basic role playing mechanics. The point still stands that nothing is going to change now. If it could I wouldn't mind having a few of the mage crowd control spells I used to have in WoW. Then again in WoW I always wanted my own house so maybe we could turn this around and find out what the WoW players would like to have from Skyrim.

Again, another case of, if you disagree with me, you are wrong, and no matter what you say, im right. If it were up to you Halo would probably have kill streaks, and in order to kill anything in skyrim you would have to grind the SM EN AL loop in order to kill anything.

as much as my and Darkside Eric's opinions differed it had nothing to do with being right or wrong we where just having a nice discussion based on our opinions and both trying to get them accross, i respect Eric for having the discussion and not pulling it into a flamewar / elitist post i kind of enjoyed our discussion....

see, I disagree within reason. I still thoroughly enjoy WoW, and i find that, in a developing market where the other mmo's DO have "free" and "premium" versions, I feel it makes alot more sense for WoW to have a "neverending" free style available.

of course it's had to adjust, and yes, in several cases devolve, which is why it's completely revamping its systems for the new expac. But its membership continues to climb, and people gripe and gripe and gripe, but they still play. Same with many, many games.
Free to play up to level 20 is that other call an demo, you can try out the game and see if you like it. If you like it you buy it else you drop it.

Benefit of not having an timeout is that you have no pressure, worked for me, I ignored it then it was one week free, up to level 20 and I downloaded.

Kind of off op topic- but i suspect tempers flared and that happened pages ago-

I used to play MUDs (pre wow stuff) all the mmos eventually go the way of the dinosaur, leaving that time and effort in the dust.

Thats why I like skyrim for my RPG, since I am not obligated by expansion packs or need to constantly invest time to remain uber. I switched to FPS games whenever I want online competition/interation L4D2/CS:S. When you begin- everyone is on equal footing, and when you leave everything is the same. my 2 cents.

I don't like the fact that they want money to play it after you bought the game.

Plus I'm primarily a console games player. But even then I massively begrudge paying for xbox live without the additions of any subscription for a game. When the next generation of console arrives I'll consider converting over to playstation if xbox don't compete on the subscription charge

My favorite thing about WoW(i played for several years), was and always will be the PvP. I don't mean instanced battle between factions. I mean just coming across a player from the Alliance and trying to figure out how to avoid them and run for your life or knowing you can take them and going after them. You never knew when this was going to happen.

i wish you good luck! and if you do ever get into Bethasoft....get rid of the quest markers for me? please
Can we stop... This is a non-issue. Go into settings and turn it off. I don't understand why so many people want to rip helpful features completely out of the game when they are optional.

Same thing when it came to fast travel. Don't like it? Don't do it.

WOW and Skyrim are both fantastic games and tops in the respective genres. I have enjoyed them both immensly and both them have provided some of my best video game experiences and memories to date.

If there was one feature I would like to see from WOW it would be the buff notifications. I would love to know how much longer I have my Zombie for or that mage armor I just cast.

Status timers should have been a part of the UI. These would display on your screen along with a countdown until they fade. Some things, like Zombies should have timers. Mage Armor and beneficiai buffs, however, should ALWAYS be active. One time cast and until the spell is cancelled, replaced, or overwritten - it would be active. It is more so a convenience and doing away with an outdated mechanic than anything else. What purpose do beneficial buffs with timers server? Unless that is their draw, incredibly powerful buffs with short durations and cooldowns to be used situationally. Buffs that should be passive indefinitely however, should be made indefinite.

I'd like to ask a question. For someone like me who has always played single player RPGs like Oblivion or Skyrim or Might and Magic or Wizardry etc., what is it like to find yourself in one of these massively multiplayer online RPGs like WoW? Do you adventure by yourself? Do you always adventure with other players? How do you find them? When you start out do you feel helpless? What's it like?

Typically speaking, the lure to MMORPGs is the amount of progression, content, replayability, and challenge in the games. Unlike Single Player games, they last a heck of a lot longer. Many MMORPGs soloing is perfectly viable method of leveling, but provides limited opportunities "high-end" or at level cap. In almost all MMORPGs you are going to have to socialize and play in a group. The biggest downside to MMORPGs is the fact that you cannot just "stop" whenever you want because you are working in a group with others. Many tasks take a long time to complete. How you are rewarded "loot" is sometimes tricky as well. You may not always receieve a reward it depends on how the loot is structured. This is much better than the past. Depending on the class you pick, yes some classes solo much better than others. Some simply cannot solo. In Player v Player cases, this is sometimes especially true.

If you are in grade school or college, I would suggest trying out MMORPGs. They are incredibly fun, but extremely demanding. It is fairly rare to have a "casual" friendly MMORPG. People say WoW is, and to some extent that is true - however if you want "the best" items and to progress, you have to Raid and invest yourself in strong social aspect of the game. Finding a GOOD guild is half the battle of an MMORPG. Once you find the right fit for you, typically you guys can move from game to game with ease and it makes the experience much more enjoyable.

I would say however, no MMORPG today is very good. Wait until Guild Wars 2 if I were you.

mainly for different reasons I play singleplayer rpgs and mmos. One of the things that keeps bringing me back to WoW is I have a great guild. Not great in regards of pvp or raids, but great people. Nice, funny, inclusive, and very helpful.

there's a small bit of rp mentality, but it's very, very weak. It takes a while to learn it, as it does with most games. Sometimes you can learn fast, and the learning process has been streamlined a bit with the release of Cataclysm, but it can still take a little bit of time.
