Skyrim and WoW

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 8:44 am

Given the huge popularity of WoW one can safely assume there are many WoW players on every gaming forums, even moreso in an RPG official forums. So, dare I ask fellow wow-ers, is there any component of WoW that you love and wish it was imported in Skyrim?

I would like myself the concept of hunter implemented pretty much like they are in WoW. Taming the Tamriel beasts, having them at your side permanently, dismissing them, training their skills, using traps to survive.

The size of the map. Those maps are freaking huge, if you try to run on foot all Kalimdor from south to North it takes you two [censored] hours.

Seems like WoW is the herpes of the gaming community. It will never go away, no matter what you do.

If I wanted WoW's content, I'd buy WoW and sub up. Otherwise, no thank you.

Right, because for some reason people believe it's some sort of heinous crime that two games might share mechanics...

hah the usual wow haters chiming in I see. Love it or hate it can't argue with their mass subscription rate still going strong after 7+ years.

There have been countless of MMO's who have attempted to dethrone WOW and have failed miserably (still early for SWTOR). Warhammer was supposed to dethrone wow but last I heard that game has dropped down to a single North American server.

Aren't you one that criticizes Skyrim for being an "action" game, and not an RPG?

What relevance does that have?

Action games can share mechanics with MMORPGs, racing games, adventure games, etc.

It's how the mechanic is molded to fit into the genre that matters.

Did I stike a nerve or something?

To me, the ES series is not trying to take a slice of the WoW pie to lure that fanbase here. This is an offline game and doesn't have a need to copy the mechanics of the beast called WoW. TES is carving their own wave and I'm glad for it.

Of the top of my head: countless display/interface options, boats transport on a schedule basis, barber, cool effects on enchanted weapons, poison that lasts a given time, more druid/ecology based quests and or factions.

I just find it rather ironic, someone criticizing a game because essentially, it shares mechanics with other games, lecturing someone else for doing the same.

btw Skyrim is indeed a dumbed down version of MMO. Only with simplified mechanics, smaller world, and easier enemies. Which is not a bad thing at all. MMOs are a huge timesink.

Who says they have to "take a slice of the pie" to lure that fanbase here? It's very easy to borrow a mechanic from one game without "luring" the fanbase of said game to yours.

I find it highly doubtful that Skyrim "lured" Dragon Age fans over because Skyrim has Runes you can lay on the ground.

I just find it rather ironic, someone criticizing a game because essentially, it shares mechanics with other games, lecturing someone else for doing the same.

Um... nearly all games nowadays share mechanics with other games. You still have not offered a point at all.

The [censored] attributes! Intelligence, strength, agility, etc...
It's a shame that WOW has more attributes than Skyrim.

Yea I guess hunter characters are having a hard time in Skyrim as they are kinda useless without a faction and some quests attached to it.

I played WoW for 5 years.. and Rift for 6 months.. WoW was fun to start, it got easier until it was just too easy. Rift was a lot like WoW . Things I like from WoW .. Flying , tame able pets, companion pets, bag storage chatting to other players. Much the same for Rift except no flying.. and loved wardrobe and dyes.
But Skyrim is a different kind of game, I love relying on my own skills and learning best way to get something done, Love the environment, it is more realistic .. I would like better clothes but that is a minor thing.
Would I go back to WoW or Rift.. not unless there were MAJOR changes ( and someway to stop idiots talking to you  )
a hearth stone would be nice.. even on a long cd

Attributes, classes, variety of weapons and enchants, starting your own guild (we would recruit npc's instead of players), large scale battles, quest journal where you can actually read the text if you forgot after a while who sent you and where to get what.

Um, no I don't.

I critisize Skyrim for diluting its RPG mechanics.

It can share mechanics all it wants with other games, because it already does, but don't dilute what you are supposed to be good at.

It's as if Mario decided to add more speed sections to be like Sonic, but then diluted the emphasis on jumping.
