Skyrim Is Boring...

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 8:58 pm

Why would you want to kill children? That's sick.

And no, I don't find the game boring.
I think every NPC should be killable, it's one of my minor gripes. Skyrim's a violent world, there are dragons attacking non-stop, people die, including children.

Yeah, but a casualty is different from targeting an individual for death. :turtle:

I don't know how many countless hours I've played Skyrim so far, but I can't take it out of my disk tray. I'm having a blast with the game, I love the hundreds of random quests you can receive at any given time, and it's so much easier to roleplay in than Oblivion, or at least that's what I think.

The Creation Engine looks magnificent as well, I'm surprised they got a huge game like Skyrim to look that beautiful actually, it's extremely hard to do and Beth nailed it. It could be one or the best engine out there.

And really, you want to kill children? Go play some MW3.

I'm still finding it interesting. It's definitely keeping my attention longer than Oblivion could.

Guild questlines are a bit short though, yeah, and some of the quests are pretty repetitive. I prefer stumbling upon one of the dungeons that has its own little, non-quest story to stumbling across another dungeon where another person wants me to kill another dragon priest.

It is, sort of, for me. After doing the main quest and all the guild quests and probably most of the side quests, it gets boring. Still sort of having fun though going to towns and killing everyone with my chain lightning spell. :D Will be 500540540504504x better once the Construction Kit is released. The game itself is not what I find the most fun, but doing mods with the CK.

Couldn't disagree more. 115 hours in and still doing sidequests. That's about 100 hours more than most singleplayer games offer. Also this is even before mods really kick in. I expect to get around 300-400 hours of quality time for 39,90 € and that's among the best deals I've made in my life.

But hey, it's always so cool to be against the general consensus, you gain like a lot of respect for it. Hope you enjoy that more than the game.

Well I could target children in Fallout 1 and 2, but the only time I ever killed any was when I'd get attacked in the middle of town and critical fumble a shot and plug an 8-year old in the back of the brainpan.

I've not played Skyrim, but I was thinking about buying it next February. Would anyone care to share a more detailed account of their reasons of why "its boring" or "Its not boring" for them?

What I mean is... Saying the quests are boring/exciting (or the writing is bad/good ) is still kind of subjective, and I was hoping for an example or two to go along with the opinion.

I think you may need to mix up your playstyle a bit...

My Nord is part archer, part two hander(for dragons mostly) and my primary fighting style is one handing with shield.

I usually set poison on my bow and take a couple shots on my target and then pull out my melee weapons once they charge me.

Mix in some shouts and it's a party.

Just experiment more...If I was going straight two handed, I would be bored too.

Hey you and I are playing almost the same character, except I ditched the shield and went dual swords for melee. Do you have that sneak perk that turns a dagger into a damned nuclear weapon? I dropped a giant with a sneak backstab, it was hilarious (I fully expected to get smashed after stabbing him). :D

The greatest enjoyment I get from Skyrim is just wandering around the wilderness. Unfortunately, this is the only place where random things truly happen, and you don't feel like you've done this a million times before. So I'll give Skyrim that.
I have been playing it since day 1, is basically the only game I play now. Having bought cod3 and assasins creed revelations I still only play skyrim.

My gameplay is as descrived above. I started to follow the main quest (for like half an hour) then I started to run into things and that led to discover new places. I do follow some quests, but I do loads of roaming, I walk anywhere I have to go, I've only fast travel about 3 or 4 times. and everytime I find something new.

Also I tried not to use magic, only regeneration, so far for me this game is great. Sure is not "melting my graphics card" as the graphics are not as demanding or hicgh tech as we're used to see now and I can run it on ultra with everything maxed up w/o problems and it has funny glitches, but the game has svcked me in.

back in the day I played BF3 and it was ok, but I always felt it was only a technical display. too many things crumbling, too many scripted deaths.

on the other hand if you really loose yourself in the wild, you'll find that skyrim has a life of its own.

I do recommend as others have said to take your time and just wander arround. You'll be amazed at the things you'll find.

If you don't like traveling around and talking to people, then Elder Scrolls games obviously aren't for you.

This.

Cuz this is what Skyrim is all about, exploring the world, interacting with people and discovering the stories behind them.
To me this never gets old. And the quests aren't that bad, but rather I think the story behind the main quest is very interesting.

Just go slowly, immerse yourself, if you can't, go play some other game.

It just sounds to me that Skyrim isn't your type of game. If you're all about the killing, you're only going to experience a fraction of what the game has to offer.

Try using light armor and stealth, I am level 21, sitting on Expert difficulty at around 60 hours in and I still get my butt handed to me by Bandit Chiefs etc! I have to use tactics which I think the OP has no idea about!

Stop, take your time do some exploring, I am this far in and haven't even started the MQ, infact all I have been doing is sidequests and 'mapping' the landmass, that is what I do in all open games like the TES series, Fallout 3 etc.

Btw I am playing as a Ranger Archer who is decent with a 1h weapon and some spells like restoration and summon flame atronach Once I get into hand-hand combat because of my light armor I often get beat down!. I found true warriors with 2h weapons always a bit boring, run in whap them and keep going :)

Sounds to me like the OP is powergaming and treating Skyrim like a FPS, probably fast traveling everywhere too!!

I agree with the OP, it does get boring. I'm not saying I'm done playing or anything of the sort, but yeah, the game did get predictable faster than Oblivion or Morrowind.
The quests are dull, and both the faction questlines and main quest are pathetically short and pretty uninteresting really. Randomly exploring and doing the most generic of Misc fetch quests can only last so long after that.

I'll just be glad when the construction set gets released and we start seeing some good mods coming out.

I'll try to help you out my friend.

I find Skyim quite amazing because, well, it's something new first of all. After a few years of Oblivion I couldn't stand it, breezed through the MQ and all the Guilds, it wasn't that fun.

Skyim on the other hand, offers so much more than Oblivion ever could. The new engine is quite amazing, every little detail looks fantastic. Another thing I found that was great is that it's easy to get side tracked off the Main Quest. You'll walk into any town and see a fight, argument, or maybe just a conversation between a number of NPCs, and you can just walk away and ignore it, or jump in and get loaded with some fun side quests.

Also, it's extremely fun to roleplay, I tried and failed to in Oblivion, but in the new world of Skyrim it just seems right to.

The new character creation is outstanding. You can see what people come up with for their own characters in the Show Us Your Character thread. 8 topics of great characters, most of which are in huge detail and have a story to go along with that specific character.

With the removal of classes, the possibilities are endless with your character. You want to go stealth? Work on it, upgrade the skill, and chose a perk for that specific class. Or maybe you like to brute people out with a combination of sword and shield, upgrade those and chose your perks. The possibilities are endless.

I'd go on, but I'm afraid I've written to much already, this is a short version of why I'm loving Skyrim and can't take it out of my disk tray. (This is based of of 360 gameplay.)

Skyrim is a good game with great potential, but it does need a bit more Ooomph in my opinion.

They could perhaps start by scaling the levels a bit better and balancing the game a bit more to prevent players from becomming gods when they still have half of Skyrim left to explore.

That normally is their choice, they are power-gamers, they find some sort of 'exploit' like smithing to 100 and creating UBER items then come here to complain, thats also why there is a difficulty setting, on Master most of them would die occasionly against the tougher creatures still.

Its all how you approach the TES series, some people get it some don't, Skyrim is no different. If you want to power-game through and try to get as tough as possible, fast travel everywhere, and fly into the MQ then I am sorry you are missing the point of TES games, you are missing out on the content. If people treat Skyrim like a FPS then yes they will feel flat.

I agree, Skyrim is kinda boring. For the first few days I played non stop and was just certain this is the game of the fricken decades.

What there is of it, yeah. Trouble is, Bethesda is as good as they ever were about hiding huge amounts of their free and open, go anywhere, world behind walls (this time painted to look like mountains). Just out of curiosity, I'd love to know what percent of this beautiful map is effectively off limits.

The world my character can explore is fun. I just wish she wouldn't keep having to travel long and boring distances to get from A to B unless she's on a road, which is filled with much more to explore.

The game is what you make it....It is not boring at all. I would like to go into detail about some of the cool things that have happened to me but since we are not allowed to post spoilers, all I can say is I am playing a Nord that has a serious negative attitude towards Imperials and those snotty Thalmor Elves and it has had a significant impact on my day to day life in this world. Let's just say that I am always looking over my shoulder to see who is behind me. As far as killing Dragons----That will never get old.

The game itself isn't boring. However, I'm so terribly disappointed with the quests and guilds, it's unreal. I find them soooooo boring.
