Skyrim Is Boring...

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 5:04 pm

People just expect to be wow-ed like its a michael bay film or something. In which case yes, you need to go play MW3 as many others have said. Theres no doubt a short explosion death filled main quest you can get through in a couple of hours. Im sorry that Skyrim couldnt hold your attention.

(to clarify I love the COD games, but I can learn to appreciate a lot of games for what they are unlike a lot of people who whinge about Skyrim.)

I'm guessing something more fast-paced is more to your liking?

I like it that not every person that tries Skyrim likes it. I think Skyrim players are generally more cerebral than players of some other games out there. I am definitely not talking about MW3. Nope. Not at all. And if I'm guessing right, those players won't even know I just slammed them.

I don't agree with the OP at all. I am totally in awe with just how immersive this game feels, from all thats happening around to the fantastic artistry, to the fantastic music, to the ability to do whatever you want at that moment in time. I haven't been this addicted to a single player game since Baldurs Gate. I never played the first Elder Scrolls as I found it boring, I left Oblivion because the world just felt static, but I don't get that feeling in this game at all.

As one great guy from Long Island (Iced Z) once said 'Are you serious bro?'

Skyrim is by far the most impressive game in the last couple of years, yes we have had cool games such as Modern Warfare 2 (3 svcks), Assassins Creed 2 & Brotherhood (Revelations svcks too), Fifa's, GTA IV but this game exceeds all of them in every aspect of graphics, story and gameplay.

I am sitting here in my bedroom, clueless, having to submit a 1000 word essay in Comparative Politics by 10AM and all I can think about is Skyrim and what my next steps will be.

I believe you need to get deeper into the story and join more Guilds, complete more quests, make more money, explore more dungeons and many other things before you can even judge this game.

Important note: I friggin' hated Oblivion and I can't say I played it more than 3-5 hours and everyone I know who plays Elder Scrolls have condemned me for not giving it a chance. I guess its just down to the first impression the game gives and in my case, Oblivion didn't give me a good impression where as Skyrim made my jaw drop from just booting up the Main Menu

Boring? Here's a tip....just pretend that it's real. I sometimes do that when playing a video game. Reminds me of my nephew, who chats on the phone with his friends, has a cable station on TV in the background, stereo too, gets up every ten minutes for a pepsi, goes back, kills some bad guys, texts again, checks his email, then another ten minutes and is dismayed by the fact that there is no rocket launcher in the game..........

Sorry, but the current gaming culture has virtually spoiled a lot of players; and I'm not singling out just the "younger" players surrounded by their "tech" toys.

I consider Skyrim to be a bit of a "private experience", as well as other games of that nature (that aren't online blow-things-up games).

Special effects=wow. Michael Bay=special effects. Im sure even you got where I was going with that, but chose to diliberatly ignore the point just to get some pop culture reference in.

You're too cool bro.

its unlikely you'll find support for your opinion in a forum dedicated to skyrim, but yes, some parts can get repetitive.

Skyrim is wonderful! Only missing the oblivion gates hehe.. Nah I really like this game as the other elder scrolls... They've done a great job. Only wished the bugs weren't there! but I trust the makers for fixing that;-) taking it slow as well on my char. This game keeps you busy and you dont run out of tasks that fast. which is very good. I almost fear to travel to new places for missing other spots. But After Ive done it all I will return to the places I missed hehe.. good job Bethesda!

Ohw and you cant compare this to wow or something. The Elder-scrolls are cut out of other cheese as we would say it in the netherlands;-)

Im yet to feel hooked so I guess it is a bit boring. Mostly because of shallow and uninteresting quests and dialogue, bad character design and some other bad things. Im not bored yet either and it is an imprvement from oblivion but im not hooked like i am to good rpgs.

At first it felt much better but now the shiny gimmicks are fading and the flaws are really starting to show.

Well atleast not all people feel that way! For me it becomes better and better how further I go into skyrim. as I said I take it slow. as rpg... need money to buy.. need to craft.. and learn stuff.. kill giants.. and clean up caves.. kill some dragons.. learning new skills.. experiencing skyrim fullest! For me its the best rpg game since I played Oblivion. and yeah I played a few RPGs.. like Two Worlds II.. again everybody has their own opinion about it! For me its just Perfect ( only bad thing is as I said the bugs, but I do trust bethesda to fix it).

The quests, however, are really boring.

Have you done the Daedric quests? There too fun to pass up.

TES games are what you make of them.

This.

50 hours in and I've barely scratched the surface. Aside from Whiterun, I've only been to Markarth as far as other cities go.

Only Markarth. And for a quest, and only to leave the city immediately after that. Because I wasn't ready to go and explore it yet. And I've been very busy with no shortage of things to do in those 50 hours, which mostly revolve around controlled exploring in the surrounding countryside. Imagine when I start going to the other cities and exploring all of them?

Imagination plays a large part in these games for me, as well as self-control. If you immediately go everywhere and try to do everything, you're just going to grind the game and get bored easily.

Too bad :( It's getting better and better for me. I still haven't been to any other city but Whiterun though!

Im not sure if I'd even call Skyrim an rpg. A very shallow one if it is. The only things I can assume a role in are mainly connected to looks, race and fighting style. Otherwise the path is set and there is barely any roleplaying. Two Worlds II really doesnt count as a good example... Play DA:O, Morrowind, Kotor, Witcher or something like that.

Main complaints about the game would be shallow, short, boring and linear questlines and dialogue, terrible character creation and development, shallow characters, tiny cities, complete lack of challenge and sense of reward and probably something I forgot. Killing things, delving in dungeons, gaining money (very easily at that) and crafting are really very indifferent and dont have much to do with a good rpg.

thats your opinion mate! I played Morrowind and witcher as well.. and yes I see the RPG in this! you just didnt figure that out yet? it has all definitions of being a RPG. Maybe you had different expectations about the game. I went in this game as I went into morrowind and oblivion. empty open minded and see what its about. Didnt expect how it would be as I wished. I let it surprise me. and it did en does surprise me! in a good way! the story lines are good and fun! If you dont like it then so be it! Doesn't mean its a bad game ha? and its absolute not boring! atleast thats my opinion!

Opinions, opinions, opinions... So what if their opinions? Some are better rationalized than others.

Instead of opinions heres a few facts: quest choices are almost non existant, dialogue choices are non existant or meaningless, the only dialogue options we have are usually very short and bland, there is very little dialogue in general, the character creation is dumbed down and very shallow, the cities are tiny, the quests are short, there is very little variety in spells, many nice little things that add complexity are removed and plenty of other things that I couldnt be bothered to list anymore.

What I'm getting at is that these things are key elements to mine and many others immersion and fun when playing an rpg. When they are seriously lacking the game cant be a good rpg. If one at all.

Even if I had taken Skyrim as a whole new game (which I didnt since its an Elder Scrolls game and series have certain expectations) these things that I count as key elements for rpgs wouldve still been lacking

After a few hundred hours, yes. It becomes boring to play on the same file. I always end my games around there.
