Skyrim Dead is Dead Thread IV

Previous Dead is Dead Thread III:
http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1291778-the-skyrim-dead-is-dead-thread-iii/page__st__180

The previous Dead is Dead thread appeared to have gone unconscious at the end of the third installment, but my character isn't dead yet! So here I've resuscitated the thread--it had not really died otherwise, according to the rules, I could not have brought it back--and above is a link to the previous installment (which has the rules in the original post).

In keeping with the style first started by SENIOR CINCO, and explained in his original threads linked above, below begins our tombstones. Please note that you must post notice, of starting a new character, for them to be eligible for the Skyrim Memorial.

Following a ruleset from a youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipVfXDxw7DI&feature=related, I have made a roleplay DiD hunter character. Probably the most enjoyment I have gotten out of this game. Incredibly tense.

I'm wearing fur armor I found on a bandit who had been killed by pit wolves. I have had a very close call with a sabretooth at level 4 however after swimming across a river and sprinting I got clear of the beast.

My character is a bosmer named Galmir. He is a professional hunter, no quests has he done or will do. Character literally has me on my seat whilst playing, I have the music off which enhances the already tense experience. Highly recommend this sort of playthrough, makes you think a lot more knowing that one death and that is it.

My character at the moment on master, uses block 1h heavy armor and restoration. I haven't died at all (level 53), but I bet if I played DiD I would die from being to careful. Obviously I'm playing the most defensive playstyle, armored to the teeth, I've come very close to death, but it never bothered me if I was to die.

Tempted to play DiD on my next mage character on master though.

After barely escaping death in Helgen from a dragon, my Nordic warrior named Delcor joined up with Ralof, snuck past a bear in a cave, and escaped the ruined town to Riverrun. We were befriended by Gerdur who graciously fed and housed us while we recuperated, and in the days ahead, Delcor began learning the smithing craft.

After sharpening my sword and axe, tightening up my armor for a better fit, and re-stringing my bow, I made my way to Bleak Falls Barrow to recover a golden dragon claw for a shopkeeper. Thankfully, Sven joined me and together, we crept through the ancient ruins and solved a few tricky puzzles to find the claw. For some reason, the corpses in Bleak Falls Barrow were able to move and attack us! I thought that dead meant dead?

Afterwards, I helped a few townspeople and made my way to Whiterun where I teamed up with the Jarl's warriors to defeat another dragon and the Jarl saw fit to appoint me Thane.

*to be continued*

J.

P.S. Delcor is currently Level 5 in Whiterun.
EDIT: Using Expert difficulty and "Deadly Dragons" mod (uh oh).

I'm going to make this kind of character soon, just as soon as my New vegas character dies.

Oh yeah! As a level 5 Nord playing DiD, I'm very hesitant to take on new quests, especially those that require him to travel a large distance cross-country. I've made sure that my armor is in top shape (although I don't grind my skills), and I try my best to find companions and keep them alive.

I haven't yet met a sabre cat... That may be the death of me.

Meh, just died to a vampire mistwalker and his pet vigilant of something cant remember the name, at level 17 with my first DiD stealthy archer. Gah i'm so pissed. I was just not careful enough... Tought i would down her without potions, one power attack and boom, from %80 hs to zero. I've put so many hours to that character damn it. I wasted like 3 hours getting my ebony bow fighting undead which were probably lvl 40+ (yes there's a way to get ebony bow early in game).

I don't know what to do now, screw DiD and continue or reroll, something different this time. Thinking of wasting like 1 hour ONLY for deciding her name, bah .. . . . .......

Don't continue, you won't feel right and people will frown on you for it. Take it as a learning experience, roll a new char and be more careful. If your finding it too stressful don't do DiD it's meant to be a fun challenge!

I have two current D-i-D characters, atlhough the first one is essentially retired at level 68 as I've done pretty much everything I set out to do with her and am waiting for DLCs/expansions to play her further. The second is still active at level 52, and is most of the way through the MQ and TG lines. Am mostly collecting shouts with him atm, as he's in something of a holding pattern for the time being. Once the CK comes out and I can rework some things I have several more planned, and may bump up from Adept to Master as well although I don't like how the difficulty slider works.

@Jochebed:

I've found that it's a good idea for non-Mage D-i-D characters to increase Health on most level-ups, although one of my sneaky archers evenly split between Health and Stamina as he makes heavy use of the zoom perk, which drains a low Stamina pool rather quickly.

@Jochebed: You did VERY well for a Level 17 stealth character who was fighting vampires! (IMO, that is) My archer character, not being played DiD, is a glass cannon and dies very often. Give me your archer's name and I'll edit the opening post to provide a memorial.

@General Masters: You have DiD characters at level 68 and 52? You truly are a master!

Delcor, my warrior, gained level 6 tonight. He awoke from an evening's rest in the Companion's Hall in Whiterun, ate a wonderful breakfast in the hall with Lydia, and then he led Lydia to see the dragon bones outside of the Western watchtower. Lydia silently looked down in awe at the huge skeleton. The two of them then went hunting and decided to investigate a fort that they spied, not far away. It was Fort Greymoor, and the duo were so repulsed by what they found there that they vowed to clear it of its inhumane occupants. They returned to Whiterun late that evening, successful but bloodied and saddened. On the way back, as they walked along the road under the pale moon, they saw what must have been a hallucination! An apparition! They continued on to the Companion's Hall where they flopped into bed for the night.

I decided to give this challenge a try. I used a random number generator for the slider positions when I created my character, and it turned out a rather nasty orc. Hehe. I used Fraps to record his progress and uploaded it to YouTube. He didn't survive that long though.

Yeah, it was the first time I entered this cave, so I didn't know what to expect. He swinged his 2-hander faster than I could raise my shield.

I passed on joining in with FONV, but will give it shot in Skyrim. Not being thrilled with sitting through the wagon ride and execution sequence again (and again and again), I've made a save at Helgen just before choosing whether to escape with Hadvar or Ralof. Barring any major objections, this will be my reload point. Since this is after character creation, I'm stuck with a male Breton named Delvin Wickhouse. I do have a save just before character creation if that's an issue, but the execution thing lost its "cool factor" after the first three or four times. For this run-through, Delvin will escape with Hadvar, although it means missing out on the slightly better Imperial weapons unless Ulfric's folks get lucky. The last one (not announced, so I'm not counting him), was doing pretty good until he took an unplanned flight courtesy of a not-so-friendly, neighborhood Giant. "Hey, I can see my house from here!" *splat*

{Edit} Oh, yeah... mods. I'm using SkyUI, Headbomb's Better Sorting, Quality World Map, and Glowing Ore Veins. {/Edit}

Lol, my DiD character Mazoga (yes, the Orc) died of Sabrecat too. She was all "Awww, what is that? A little kitty? I'm gonna skin her for pelts, mwahahaha!" And it was all over in 2 seconds. Not a very glorious death! But Mazoga was kinda crazy.

Sabre cats, i like killing them, thing about killing them lies to not allow them power attack you at start, i run towards them and when its about to jump i fus ( ro + dah) them, interrupting it's attack and then power attack them till death, usually getting out battle without any hp drop :celebration:

@Marstinson: You can fast forward past the Helgen thingy, after watching the execution. After entering tower with Ralof, just run, don't wait for anything, directly to the Keep, no need to follow&wait Ralof/Hadvar. When the dragon lands to breath and Hadvar saves the boy, run near dragon it will just take off.

Going to start my new DiD, mage this time. Going something around this spec: http://skyrimcalculator.com/#56456

Destro fire spec for offensive output, alteration for protection and paralyze, conjuration for atronachs, resto for heal+magica regen passive+avoid death, and echanting for less mana costing gear. Named her Violet, breton again, lets see how this goes.

Just to remind folks, be sure to add a post to this tread to formally request a memorial when your DiD character expires. Otherwise, I'll assume that you're just chatting about a death, not requesting a memorial. If you'd like to see what information is needed (generally) for a memorial, please see the first post in this thread.

Decor, my warrior, continues to live and has joined the Companions in Whiterun. The good news is that he was able to complete a quest to find the shard of an ancient weapon; the bad news is that his original companion, lovely Lydia, was replaced by a scruffy male fighter, Falzar I think his name was. After a nice meal, they went outside to find that the day was gloomy and rainy, and they slogged miles through the grey dampness to reach the site. During our long search through the structure, Falzar let me in on a secret of his, and I'm not sure that I'm comfortable with it, but it is what it is. Upon our return to Whiterun, I was inducted into the Companions and I've now survived reaching my eighth cycle. I have not yet battled a sabrecat but, when I do, I'll save the skin to place in front of my firepit at home.

Rather than writing lengthy posts here, I started a "Dead is Dead" page at "The Adventurer's Journal" (link in my sig). There are significant spoilers contained therein, so those who do not wish to be spoiled will have to settle for the occasional "we're still alive and kickin'" post on this thread, or perhaps "another one bites the dust" (hopefully not).

I had a VERY close call tonight. As Delcor and Lydia were making their way from Whiterun to a bandit leader's camp, we heard a dragon roar and turned to see a pitched battle underway between the flying lizard, three mammoths, and a giant. (I have the Deadly Dragons mod loaded, so I was dreading an encounter with dragons...) Lydia and I figured that the giant and the mammoths would do enough damage to the dragon that we would be OK providing assistance with our bows, from afar. All was going well, the dragon was nearly dead, and then an errant arrow hit the giant (darn that Lydia!). All of a sudden I knew that we were in trouble; the mammoths turned to face us and I could hear the giant stomping towards us, so I did what any other DiD'er would do. I RAN! And I ran and I ran and I ran until it appeared that the giant had lost interest. I had LIVED! And then I thought... "Uh Oh. Where is Lydia?" She was nowhere to be found.

I was saddened enough to call it quits for the night, deciding to search tomorrow for the corpse(s).

Delvin and Lydia are still trekking around. They completed the "Horn of Jurgen Windcaller" and "Blade in the Dark" quests this evening with a couple of side-trips. There was a bit of excitement over at the High Gate Ruins when Lydia and Anska got into a catfight. Every time Lydia recovered a couple of health points, she'd go all aggro on Anska, who promptly fireballed her butt. Finally managed to get them both pacified. It was kind of touch-and-go with Vokun, but we managed to prevail. Just a hair short of Level 12, but as Johnny Winter used to sing, we're "still alive and well."
