@ Deerber : Don't worry about grinding your char. Do what you feel is fitting for your RP and balance. If one want's to set down and grind out a level 50 char and then forego quests, so be it. It's your game, your character and your story. Tell it how you see it. And a great start to one by the way. Good luck.

EDIT :

Ok, this is just stupid hard. Her first bandit encounter was almost a fail. One shot from an Iron arrow does 75 damage? Come on! Even with starting out with a 100 Sneak and 5/5 plus Muffed Move, she is still easily detected. I guess I could back off on the difficulty, but I have committed to Master and turned it into Grandmaster by running up Sneak. It's times like this I wished I was on the PC. I would like to start the game as a Vamp and mod in the random drop starting point. Maybe give her some starting perks. But being on the 360 platform, this is as close as it gets. I have made her bed coffin, now we shall lie in it. I guess the arrow damage is fitting like a stake to the heart. So here is our story.

Escaping Helgen, Hands-On-briast ran out in terrorized state of shock. Leaving Ralof behind she fled screaming. Wolves and Bandits confronted and chased her for what seemed like forever. Night drew near and she looked for shelter. She came upon a cave and decided to bed down for the night. Entering the cave she was confronted by what seemed to be a Bandit. It was just one and she was tired of running.

The battle was intense going straight up blade to blade she managed to overcome the foe. Upon closer inspection, she notices some thing very strange about the fallen enemy. This was no ordinary Bandit. The skin had an uncanny paleness and the eyes were mere voids of nothing. As she kneels over the corpse she is startled by..."You shouldn't have come here!"

What the? She is struck with pain that she had never felt before. Like the life was being ripped from her very soul. AGHHHH! She falls back and slips into an unconscious state.

She awakens to find herself in the barracks of Helgen's Keep.

HANDS-ON-briast : What the hell? How did I get here?

ME : I brought you here.

HANDS-ON-briast : WAHHH! Who said that!?

ME : Take it easy. Think of me like your Guardian Angel, only not so much a guard and even less angelic.

HANDS-ON-briast : This is really starting to freak me out!

ME : You have been down for almost a week. There have been some...changes to your physical state. You have gone through a purge of sorts.

HANDS-ON-briast : Purge? Changes? A week? The last thing I remember was offing some bandit scum and now I'm here.

ME : Your encounter was a little more than that. Short story is girl runs, finds cave, kills Vampire Thrall, attacked by Vampire, passes out and falls into a coma for a week and wakes up a lady of the evening.

HANDS-ON-briast : WHAT?! I'm a vampire now?! A Vampire with a creepy voice in her head?

ME : A creepy, dark, deep and sixy voice but yes.

We continued to talk and I explained her situation in more detail. She had new powers and new needs. The first need was coin. She gathered together the loot from the Keep and set out for Riverwood. This will be no easy task. Hands-On-briast was raised by an Argonian Shadowscale. A former assassin and master in the art of stealth. These talents were passed on to her in years of training with the Shadowscale. These skills will prove to be vital in her success and survival as a Vampire. They will be tested as will her new found powers in her first encounter with the living of Riverwood.

Night fell and we made our way to the edge of town. She sat in wait for the trader to open. Out of hiding she tried to slip into town. She was spotted by a child that set the alarm and was immediately chased out of town. Taking a shot from the Elf's Bow, she was almost finished before she started. Downing the last of the Hpots, we regrouped and tried again.

This time she was ready. She entered the back edge of town and used her Vampiric power to become invisible. This gave her enough time to enter the trader without incident. Upon entering she used her natural born gift of the Emperor. Although the sister was stricken, this did not effect the merchant. He charges from behind the counter. He lands a powerful blow from his dagger. Hands-On-briast exerts another gift from the darkness and seduces the merchant. We entered dialog and traded out our loot.

Knowing this was going to be hard to escape, we purchased a couple of Hpots for the road. Being indoors, her HPs were able to regain, so we waited until the spells wore from the traders. Now at about 75%, we made our move. She darts out the door and out of town, but not before another shot from that damn Elf.

ME : God! I hate that guy!

HANDS-ON-briast : You?! I'm the one that got hit, genius!

We made our way back to the keep, where she could wait for nightfall and we could put together a plan. We had about 400 coin and needed more. Our next priority would be spells. That meant the College. If she could get in, she would have a safe haven to practice and perfect her skills. Skills that MUST be honed to overcome the hostile hatred of the common folk.

HANDS-ON-briast : Well, what now?

ME : We have got to get to the Mages. We have a couple of options.
1) We could go the risky, adventurous and lethal route of sneaking to Whiterun and charming a carriage driver. OR...
2) We could go the risky, adventurous and lethal route of sneaking to the College.

HANDS-ON-briast : What's the big difference?

ME : One will just kill you faster.

HANDS-ON-briast : You mean one of, or number one?

ME : Yes.

HANDS-ON-briast : Great....

We set out to try our luck with the driver.

I think I'll make an argonian. His name will be Weedum-Ja, I have made every character since daggerfall named Weedum-Ja. It will be my second weedum-ja in skyrim, I have a level 19 archmage on adept but ya. He will be his dad I guess. Since daggerfall it has been his father's father's father's father's FATHER'S name. Or at least that's what his father said. (M'aiq reference FTW)

Hello fellow gamers! :wavey:
This will be my first Dead is Dead playthrough! I've decided to play a conjurer/ilussionist. I'm going to go for the gusto on Master Difficulty and see how far I can get.

My character is a Breton named Gareth. He is a young man with an unscrupulous nature. Though he is not an outright pickpocket or a thief, he is a swindler. As a matter of fact, he was fleeing Cyrodil after selling some minor stamina potions to some lowlifes in Bruma under the guise that they were skooma. He had the unfortunate luck to be picked up by the Imperial army as they were raiding the area for Stormcloaks.

Name: Gareth Ashton
Background: Male, Breton
Date of Birth: 17th Last Seed, 181 4e
Date of Death:
Playstyle: Pure Mage/Conjurer

Just made it out of Helgen. Let the adventure begin!

@Carpe Noctum: great post, I enjoyed it! Could you tell me how to put images in the thread, please? (I'm kind of a forum-noob, he!)
Good luck with Talia, he seems strong enough to survive this harsh world!

If you have the images uploaded somewhere (photobucket, imgur, etc.), grab the direct link to the file. Once you have that, highlight the text in your post where you want to insert the photo, then lick the little "Link" button in the formatting toolbar (looks like a chain link with a small green circle under it.) Paste in the link to your file, and voila!

Starting out has been rough. I powergamed her for a 100 sneak skill. I may restart. I thought I would need it to be an effective sneak, starting out as a Vamp from the earliest point possible. My previous char was a Vamp from day 1 but she had a week to mingle, travel and trade before Stage 4 Vampirsim (S4V). That is not the case with Hands-On-briast. I mean for her to be S4V upon ALL encounters.

Raising her Sneak so fast so soon has thrown her into a very, very difficult situation. She is facing level 19 enemies on Master. Her sword is basically just grooming a fox, for crying out loud. Yes she has the x15 dagger bonus, but that is not saying a lot when your dagger has a base damage of 6. That is 3 on Master.
Though you might not like doing this, what I do after power-starting a character is run Smithing up so that I can make good equipment. Since there's no limit to how much wood the local sawyer/innkeeper will buy, I chop a crapton of the stuff then stagger off to the sawmill/inn to sell it to get a starting fund. If/when I run out of money, I just chop and sell more wood.

I'm suggesting doing this because having good equipment is critical on Master if you want to be able to kill anything, and this is a way to get it without running into an unwinnable fight in the process. Also, I've tried leveling the conventional way, and early weapons just don't have enough punch if playing above Adept. For your particular character, I strongly advise (unless it's against the RP) joining the DB for the special gloves, you'll want the added damage when facing higher-level targets.

Thanks GM, for the tips. I have been through the DB with my first Vamp/Ass. I really have a bad taste about those guys. Don't get me wrong. I am pro Sithis and all of that. Very much so. That's my problem with those guys. It's just not that DB I'm use to. She will be fine ( I hope ) until I can get come spells under her belt and build up her Conjuration, 1H and Illusion. There will definitely be some sort of massive increase in an offence skill, I assure you.

@Carpe Noctum: thanks, I finally figured that out! :D

Anyway, I just noticed I forgot one big rule I always use. By now, it's become so natural to me that I almost forgot it could be otherwise. It's pretty simple: no fast travels.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm not expecting to go too far on this first play through, but who knows?

So as soon as I got in my first dungeon, I remembered that I have Realistic Lighting Mod, Subliminal Traps and Tougher Traps enabled. If you haven't played with this combo, it is hellish. The subliminal traps takes all the markings off pressure plates so they really blend in to the environment. You can detect them because they stick out a little, but they are hard to see. The tougher traps mod increases the damage of traps significantly and the lighting mod makes certain areas pitch black without a torch. If I were to wager on what kills Gareth, I'm guessing some sort of spike trap.

Anyway, so far I've recruited Sven, retrieved the dragonclaw and the dragonstone from Bleak Falls Barrow. I'm not power-leveing anything and I'm RPing it to a degree. Right now I'm debating whether or not I will stay in pure robes, but I may wind up doing light armor. I'm a little nervous to engage the dragon, so I may spend some time collecting alchemy ingredients before I do. Bleak Falls Barrow was uneventful, but I'm very familiar with that one.

Weedum-Ja has heard much about his father, also named Weedum-Ja. The glorious archmage, and more so about weedum-ja's grandfather, he too named Weedum-Ja, who stopped the oblivion crisis. Not much is known about the two other Weedum-Ja's before him. He want's to go to riften, he hears there are more of his kind there. He also likes to swim, and there is much water nearby. This makes Weedum-Ja pleased.

Well, Glathor has married Ysolda, and did the theives guild entry quest, but I think I might reload because I don't want to join. Other then that, i ended up killing nazeem, too, I went to jail, and I went back to hunting. I couldnt take anymore of Nazeem's insults.

Delvin (sans Lydia - scripting issues on a quest forced a reload and dismissal) is currently at Winterhold pursuing the Thieves Guild quest line. Without Lydia for backup, his survival chances are seriously diminished, so he'll go looking for someone new before proceeding further.

I did two firsts... I played as a Breton for the first time and I played "Dead is Dead" for the first time. My game just ended. :obliviongate:

This was a Necromancer (of course) and his end came due to his own greed. In the hopes of accruing great wealth, he sought out a vendor that sold a Banish weapon. After much searching, he discovered Addrienne in Whiterun sold a Dwarven Battleaxe of Banish (or something like that). Unfortunately, he didn't have the gold. Ah ha! He could enchant the Elven Greatsword in his inventory with a Grand soul gem, then sell it. This would give him just enough gold to buy that elusive Banish enchanted weapon! So he quickly headed out to the tundra of Skyrim to find a mammoth he could soul trap and kill. Armed with no more than his loyal Thrall, he rushed out the door. Sild the Warlock was dispatched immediately by the duo of a mammoth and giant. While my Necromancer was watching from a "safe" distance, a giant ran up behind him and smashed him with his club.

Greed and arrogance killed my necromancer. Level 22.

so Flavius Aetius's life continues. He hasn't chosen a side in the civil war yet. He's worked on his smithing and light armor, and is currently equipped with full elven armor. He's married to Camilla Valerius (who is apparently scripted for marriage, but needs a console command to unlock it. Going to assume that, after her story about how she doesn't want a man and is currently focused on raising her daughter, that the devs thought it... strange to let her spontaneously have a change of heart. What can I say, Flavius is a stud). Also bought and fully upgraded Breezehome. He's yet to join any factions. He brawled Uthegerd the Unbroken for 100g and won, and uses her as a follower. Her steel plate makes her pretty damn tank.

Slew the first dragon, helped Aremen (totally guessing on his name) reclaim his father's sword. Haven't answered the greybeards call. Debating what next I should do.

was just adventuring in there on my new Flavius toon. Be sure to pick up the tome of ore transmutes, and then make sure you hit every iron ore node. easy way to get gold ore (and thus lots of money) fast.
Yup! Did that. J'Zero doesn't get any combat experience(aside from Heavy Armor) so he has to focus on other skill too in order to advance. He will flood the world of Skyrim with pretty jewelry!

What an interesting story! I love how you describe your character's adventures, please, more!

I'm sorry for the loos of your character. Those nasty sneak Giants! :stare:

J'Zero is doing OK for now. He is collecting ingredients to make potions. J'Zero does not understand why the people of Skyrim don't have potions with +3 effects, and he plans on changing that.
We had a close encounter with a sabracat while running around for Luna moths. Dammit! I'm not going to die of Sabercat again! He quickly jumped on a rock an punched the kitty until...well...let's just say she decided to munch on him no more.
Then there were those vampires at Broken Fang. J'Zero just needs some of their dust, he does not understand why they have to be so violent about it! And he doesn't plan on turning into a vampire,he thinks he has enough fangs as it is.
He is also working on learning how to forge that Orcish Armor.

Poor guy! He found a good death, like that orc.

This DiD playthrough is making me paranoid as hell, especially of the sabre cats at these low levels. No close calls so far, however I do believe Lydia is trying to kill me. She keeps clogging up my escape tunnels instead of running out to fight the bandits. I'm almost level 7. Doing some bounty missions around whiterun, then I'll make my way toward the greybeards.

When we last we saw Pahldus Pendragon he was preparing to enter Bleak Falls Barrow

Spoiler
Since that time, he entered the Barrow after dispatching some bandits. He ran into a fellow with a golden claw and killed him and took it for himself. After dispatching several draugr and avoiding some deadly traps he made his way to a weird door with symbols and a nob looking like a perfect fit for that claw. It took a little time to figure out the door and only after having figured it out from trial and error did he notice that the claw had symbols on it. Well he continued on and upon a wall where he was blinded by some kind of power for a moment, and when he turned around a tomb burst open revealing the biggest toughest draugr yet. Once again our intrepid fiend survived and found a weird stone resembling what that stupid mage back in Whiterun was looking for so Pahldus took it.

After bringing the stone to Whiterun, Pahldus once again got svcked into the problems of this hold. Now it seemed the jarl needed him to dispatch a dragon. He thought it might be prudent to dispatch this dragon since he was in the process of buying a home here in the city. So with his trusting sidekick, Uthgerd,, that went out with the jarl's troops and the surprisingly easily dispatched that dragon. Upon returning, Pahldus was given the title of Thrane of Whiterun and told he should seek out some monks on top of a mountain. This didn't sound very interesting though. While Pahldus was waiting for something exciting to happen, he collected on some bounties clearing out Redoran Retreat, Halted Steam Mine, and the Silent Moons camp.

Then one night while Pahldus was sitting around passing the time at the Bannered Mare, he met this fellow, Sam that challenged him to a drinking contest. Next thing he knew he was waking up in a temple of Dibella in the city of Markarth. Slowly he began to piece the events of that night back together. This led him to a farmer in Rorikstead, then to talk with Ysolda in Whiterun. Finally this led him to mage stronghold outside of Windhelm. Here he found a gate to the Misty Grove, where he discovered that Sam was in fact Sanguine, a daedric prince. Sanguine gifted him with his rose staff and sent him on his way.

Back in Whiterun, Pahldus remembered that Dawnstar was being cursed or something so he saw an opportunity to go up there and make some money removing that curse. Once there he met up with a priest of Mara, Eradur. They headed up to an abandoned temple that Eradur called Nightcrawler Temple. Entering he learned that Eradur was in fact a former follower of the daedric prince Vaermina. Well they managed to break through a barrier when Pahldus drank a potion and dreamwalked. As Eradur worked to destroy the Skull of Corruption, Pahldus heard a voice warning him that Eradur was about to betray him, and believing this very likely, Pahldus attacked Eradur from behind taking him out and claiming the Skull of Corruption for himself.

Returning to Whiterun and his home, Pahldus heard a rumor that the jarl was having problems with one of his sons becoming violent. Pahldus decided to confront the jarl and it was confirmed. After talking with the son though, he was told to seek out a whispering door. At the door, Pahldus learned that the voice belonged to Mephala and she desired him to obtain the key and claim her blade, the Ebony Blade from behind the door. It turned out to be rather easy to pilfer the key from the stupid oblivious wizard. Then he went and claimed the blade from behind the door. Almost immediately, the blade began to whisper to him. It whispered tales of betrayal and it told of its thirst. Suddenly people throughout Whiterun and Riverwood started turning up missing or even dead.
