Skyrim finises 3rd to portal 2 and deus ex according to forb

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 4:46 am

Everyone keeps blabbering on about how portal was a short game and Skyrim is 200+. But I'd rather play a 4 hour game that is perfectly made with no bugs than a massive game that has so many. Maybe that's why it beat Skyrim.

I haven't played Dues Ex or Portal 2 but I've always been of the belief that games like that need to have something spectacular to make up for the fact that they have like 1/20th of the content a game like Skyrim has.

Open-world, linear levels (Skyrim) vs linear world, open levels (Deus Ex).

Depends what your preferences are, I'd rather get a huge world with lots to do and get more for your money, I didn't buy Portal 2 simply because I don't believe that a 4 - 6 hour game is worth £40, no matter how good the story and gameplay is.

Oh look, it's Yet Another End Of The Year "Best" List.?

And it doesn't match everyone's opinions!

Gee, that's never happened before.

...seriously though - why is it so bad that someone (gasp) might not think that your favorite game is also their favorite game? And as for the games they rated higher.... well, I enjoyed both of them. Portal 2 quite a bit more than DXHR, but still. They're all great games, what's the big deal?

I absolutely love Portal 2 and I don't really care what Forbes thinks. It was completely entertaining and the dialogue was smart and funny and it took me longer than everyone else but it was also a blast. Still, GOTY at my house is Skyrim and that's all that matters in the end. Now I'm off to find some of Shalidor's writings.

I love deus ex. It's up in my top 5 along with the other two. Im just happy I got to satisfy my sci fi and fantasy rpg craving this year with both deus ex and skyrim. What's even better is they are very different games with very different play styles. I never played the first deus ex and probably won't as I get turned off my really old games even if I really like them alot when I first played them. (looks at final fantasy tactics on psn account an gaurdian heroes on xbox live account)
Forbes isn't exactly game centric but as long as the writer played all the games he can form an opinion.
I beleive there is a peer based goty at some developers conference. Can't remember off the top of my head. Those I would say are more like the academy awards of video game.

Don't get me wrong so do I, but lets face it, Skyrim's broke. How can a broken game win?

Deus Ex was a huge disappointment for me, didn't even finish it. Hated their experience system especially.
Portal 2 was good but short.

If Portal 2 was 200 hours I would have quit playing about 20.

You can't compare the length of the two games. Different genres, different pay offs. If you want a polished, linear, on a rails puzzle game with scripted dark humor Portal 2 is a no brainer. I thought the length was perfect @ 8 hours (my playthrough). If you want an open world with tons of stuff to do then Skyrim. If you like both then get both games and be a happier gamer than can only like 1 type of game.

LMAO, Portal 2 and Deus Ex are better, really. No mention of Arkham City or Uncharted 3 at all even along with Skyrim, completely laughable. Makes IGN's exclusion of Skyrim for PS3 GOTY a joke in comparasion. It definitely shouldn't be taken seriously at all.

Eh, everyone has their opinions but I'll never understand this. If I had paid $60 for a game that was done and over in 4 hours I would be massively pissed off. Skyrim keeps me entertained for months, for the same price, but with occasional crashes and quest bugs. I don't get how which scenario is better is even a debate.

Skyrim only pretends at having an economy... so a magazine that focuses on economic issues is probably going to downgrade it a knotch or two.

It is made by rich intellectuals.

Arkham City is aimed at comic book fans, (such as myself).
Interesting that rich intellectuals wouldn't want to play as one in a bat suit

Agree, Skyrim is many times better then Portal 2 and it's better then Deus Ex. At least Skyrim has good boss fights, not so with Deus Ex.

Yeah that response annoys me. I'm glad that all the games problem can be fixed on PC's but it isn't just on PC it's on consoles too, and just to say "here you go modders, fix what we cannot be bothered to do, and console users, yeah you're screwed until we decided to do something about it, if we chose". I'm sorry but that's wrong, and any company who does that and are too frightened or can't be bothered to reassure their fans that they are fixing ALL the problem in the game, should not be receiving awards congratulation them on a fine achievement.

Portal 2? Wasn't that game like, 4 hours long?
And exactly the same as portal 1. More like a DLC to portal 1 than anything else.

To everyone hating on portal for bein too short:

do you think you could take a consecutive slice of ur skyrim playthrough that's the same length as portal and have it be as fun and interesting?

I would say no

skyrim is good only when you get to spend increased time with it and invest in it as it becomes yours

some games are just not like that but that doesn't make them any less awesome

i thought deus ex found a good middle ground with those two formulas

Then again, Bethesda did half the job of porting the game to PC and left modders to do the rest and get it as good as it is on consoles.

Broken? I've not had one game breaking glitch, perhaps a few features need polished but I don't think it's anywhere near broken.

Then again, I play on the 360 so I can't really comment on the state of the PS3 version.

To all those that haven't noticed the obvious extreme offence Forbes has just caused with calling Dues Ex GOTY.

(Its a fine game, but lets look a little closer).

They are mocking every hard worker that has ever lived, as if to say that it would require an inhuman person to bring down the Oligarchical people who run society, basically meaning that this is a high class joke, that they didn't expect anyone to figure out.

I could very well be wrong, but the undertone cannot be mistaken, especially since the occupation events and so forth.

(I love making extraordinary assumptions, )

who the hell is forbes and why should i care about their opinion anymore than spike TV's?

maybe switch skyrim and portal 2; it was the same damn game but for full price. like it matters; video games have yet to find any respectable award system.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution blows skyrim out of the water. A game doesn't need to be big to be good. A Fallout or Elder Scrolls game does. But what Bethesda lacks is detail in characters, gripping plot, variety, and decent writing. If FNV wasn't as Bug-ridden as it was, I would argue it should have been allowed to break the rules and take GOTY for this year in spite of it being released last year. Because FNV manages to strike a good balance between size and detail - It's big enough, but not so big the game's creators have to skimp on everything else in order to make the scenery look purty all around.

You make a good point, that's the other thing that we should be complaining about. The fact that Deus Ex HR got GOTY over Arkham City, Skyrim or Uncharted 3.
