Skyrim finises 3rd to portal 2 and deus ex according to forb

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 2:50 pm

The Elder Scrolls and Fallout 3 may be exceptions, but any game sold at that price should have at least twelve hours of content.

So your argument is you'd rather pay $60 for a game that is rubbish but as long as it has 15 hours of gameplay, you'd be happy? Rather than paying $60 for a game that has 7 hours of gameplay, but those 7 hours could be the best 7 hours you've every played in your life?

No, I didn't say or even imply that at all. What I'm saying is that Length should be balanced with Gameplay, as awesome as Portal 2 was, it was too short. It would have been more acceptable as an Xbox Live Arcade title.

Portal is 4 hours, so your argument is invalid.
I'd rather save my money than
A: Spend it on a game that will last as long a a Film+Special Features for double the price
B: Twenty hours of bad gameplay

I got Deus Ex for 10€ in a sale right now. Going to see if it holds up! Hard to beat Skyrim though, even with all its flaws it's at least my game of the year.

I played Deus Ex throught TWICE. That is how good it is. Even in the open world of Skyrim and I still can't force myself to make another character and play it again. I'm also stopping to play Assassin's Creed Revelations.

They are mocking every hard worker that has ever lived, as if to say that it would require an inhuman augmented person to almost single-handedly bring down the Oligarchical people who run society, basically meaning that this is a high class joke, that they didn't expect anyone to figure out fairly accurate critique of our current socioeconopolitical situation, in which the old answers no longer seem to be working.

Oh Hai I fixed that 4 u.

Anyway, a good trick to fighting the 'bosses' is to circle-strafe up-close with a shotgun or use the typhoon if you've got it. The first makes for a really tense fight, while the second makes your odds of winning much better.

No the average game time is about 7 hours. The people I know and going on other forums it takes on average about 7 hours. People have completed it in less.

So everyone who says game length is the most important aspect at least it's the one worth looming out the most would also pick games like

final fantasy 13, nier, gears of war, mw3

Over games like

portal, shadow of the colussus, ico, uncharted

I have I hard time beleiving that

there's is way more to games than just length

if there wasn't we be buying super Mario world 50 with 1 million levels of side scrolling platforming

at least acknowledge that's not the case

short games that move the medium forward are just as good as long games that bring alot of aspects of current games together

No MP is about 5-6 hours on average. So added up on average you're are getting about 15 hours.

You forgot Heavy Rain, one of the best games I ever played, not the longest, but amazing replay value.

Fair enough then

Not at all, it just needs to have a reasonable balance between length and gameplay to justify the cost

Well in all fairness, that is what importance is measured in.

I think most critically acclaimed is the word you're looking for

"skyrim has a giant world where you can and shoudl totally ignore all quests, but the quests svcks so that hurts the game horribly. sword can only cut people, axes can only chop people, dagger can only stab people, maces can only bash people, and im too stupid to mix up my magic tactics from 'put down pet, burn stuff'. skyrims dungeons are to repetative"

that, in 3 sentances, sus up everything they said (more or less paraphrased :teehee:) but they do have a pint about the dungeons, the rest is just stupid imo

edit: almost forgot the part where they said "we didnt pay attention to the story so we dont know why or what we killed at the end other than it was a big dragon"

Human Revolution had some really solid gameplay, at least the stealth portion of it, that's going to be tough for any game to top. It's story was also pretty compelling and well delivered (apart from the ending-o-tron 3000.) I particularly liked the DLC. The dialog and the system used to deliver it were great, some of the best I've seen. I'd say it beats Skyrim in those departments, so I can see why it would win in some places, I'm even happy to see it because I think that game deserves some recognition. Skyrim has held my attention though for considerably longer, it does all things pretty well, and offers so much more content than Human Revolution that it's almost hard to compare the two.

Portal 2 was fun and very well done, but also difficult to compare to Skyrim. Too short, and too few facets of gameplay overall.

Deus Ex was very good, and a good sequel to a great game. I think you have to be fan to rate it best game of the year however... there were many awesome games released this year.

As for people whining, people always whine. I whined like hell when Morrowind was released as I saw as the ruination of all that I loved about TES:Games and was pissed like hell about all the stuff they had removed from Daggerfall... these days it is one of my most cherished games of all time.

I find the portal games to be generally silly and boring, but that is a personal taste matter. I can see why people like them.

First time I've ever heard of Forbes, no clue what they (or he) are/is.

And even if they are as 'supreme' as you made them out to be, their opinions aren't in the slightest more valuable than anyone else's.
It's only your opinion the one you should always count on, not the one of some overpaid 'gamer' that get money just for stating his personal opinions about games on the web. For all I care they can have the worst view of Skyrim ever, but I won't have to jump the gun to defend the game; doing so would be just wasting my time and energy on something really stupid.

TL;DR The game of the year is whichever one you choose, not some 'professional critic'. Their opinions are just that, opinions - not actual facts.

I though Deus EX was fantastic, gave me two run throughs of pure joy. One sneaky, second gung-ho. Portal 2 was short indeed, but a great experience, and co-op was fun. But Skyrim, for me, GOTY. Only other game to have me spend nearly as much time playing was Dragon age 2, and that was pretty poor apart from the dialogue making up for it. And 3 run throughs of Dragon age 2, only managed to make around 1 run through of Skyrim.

I don't have a problem with what Forbes did but why do we give a [censored] what Forbes votes as the best game? That's like talking to Martha Stewart about buying a muffler.

Deus Ex is definitely the GOTY. The style was very slick, cool dialogue, compelling story line as well. While I love Skyrim and the open world type of game play it offers, Deus Ex was just soooo much more slick than this game is. I do not think that DE needs a huge, gigantic open world to get lost in, but it has plenty of compelling content to offer as well. I have not even played the DLC Missing Link as of yet, I can imagine it is pretty off the hook. The sound mix is a lot better as well as the score for the game. Like Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines, DE has epic voice acting, and timeless style. Not to take anything away from Skyrim, but I am a fan of DE and will be playing again should I finish or get tired of Skyrim.

Portal 2 was dumbed down and about an hour too long in my opinion. Still, Valve delivered big time on emotional involvement and the all important 'making the player feel smart'.

DX:HR certainly had some lows, but also some highs. One of the things that impressed me most were the changes the devs made to the game from the time of the first game play trailer release. They listened to the feedback, posted videos discussing why certain things were the way they were, listened to more feedback and did indeed make certain changes or at least made certain features optional. Serious commitment to the fans.

Skyrim we all know about.

Any list featuring these three games near the top is fine in my opinion, I don't even care which order they appear in as all three are deserving of recognition and praise.

All of these games were slightly dissapointing (not flops by any means for me) I enjoyed them but they did not live up to expectations.
For time played though, Skyrim eats them as a snack.
I have my gripes about Skyrim, but it was worth my money. The other games mentioned don't really cut it. 29 hours on Deus X and I'm guessing 4 on portal 2.
i've done about 200 hours on Skyrim, . . ,., ., . I might still grumble from time to time though
