Skyrim is really boring now.

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 6:32 am

Closing in on 200 hours between my main (165 hrs) and the two characters I've created since, and I'm still finding new locations and noticing new things on the quests I've played before. Despite the relative few bugs I've had, this has been an amazing ride, and I'm far from bored.

Why do people come to the forums to tell us when they're done with a game? Just like any other game, it gets boring after awhile. You will come back to it sooner or later though.

Because look how many responses it gets in such little time. I'm ashamed I posted here twice.

I went to a restaurant and ordered a big meal. I ate all of it. Now I'm full.

I'm at 47 hours on my current character and only just finished exploring Whiterun (the entire hold). I still have Falkreath, Morthal, Markarth, Solitude, Riften, Winterhold, Windhelm and Dawnstar holds to explore. Oh and get more dragon shouts. Oh and continue the main quest (Haven't gotten to the Thalmor Embassy yet). Oh and finish the Companions. I'm not even going to touch the College, the Thieves Guild or the Dark Brotherhood with this character.

Oh and my first character got me to about 70 hours. Yeah, I'm not bored.

If you're primary interest in an RPG is gearing up, then I have to say that you'll be better off playing some sort of MMO.

Nevertheless, it is a part of the charm of TES games as well, and I agree that with the right skills you can gain access to the best items a bit too quickly. Unfortunately, the only way to remedy this situation is to not level those skills.

RPGs' primary draw is progression. You have character progression and story progression. A game with one and not the other will be weak. Bioware does an excellent job at storyline progression, whereas generally speaking, Bethesda does a great job at character progression. The exception to this I feel is Skyrim. The character progression specifically in Skyrim is extremely weak. You do get the best items with no possible upgrade extremely early on. You feel too powerful early on. Crafting makes exploration pointless from a character progression point of view. I like the idea that crafting gives you some of the best items, but the fact you do not need to work at it to achieve these items is sad. Customizing and making your own spells and gear is a great concept, but when the rare and unique gear is vastly inferior - huge huge issue.

I like not having a lot of limitations in TES, however the game feels like cheating playing it normally. Between the poor ai, overpowered skills, crafting system, and gear tier skipping - it makes combat less than satisfying and more importantly SUSTAINING. Like a good book, I should be wanting to finish the book - however with Skyrim I find myself kind of feeling like I beat the game well before I have completed everything. Keep in mind I am not ONLY after character progression, but the fact that character progression is so poor in Skyrim makes me just not really care about the storyline whatsoever.

I am very disappointed by this, but the game is fun while it lasts. I do not feel cheated, but it has room for a lot of improvement.

More like, I went to a Mexican food restaurant and ate all the chips they kept giving me and now I am not hungry or care to finish my meal. That is Skyrim.

I've put in over 450+ hours on ONE character. I never make others, I am now level 75, and barely running out of things to do, albeit there isn't much to do at this point in the game other than finish leveling and capping my level.
Not even bored.

What the hell? 70 hrs is more then average. Get a new game don't come to the forums trolling.

If you only got 70 hours out of this game you are definantly doing something wrong.

The game has been out 39 days, 936 hours. If you have really played 450+ hours, you need help. Considering on average people spend ~30% of the day sleeping, that means ~655 hours of 'awake time', in which you have played 450 hours of skyrim.

Discuss this is like arguing "who's the bad/good? Legion or Stormcloak?" I thought RPG were about roleplaying with progression as a nice adding. But for others an RPG is for progression. It's all about perspective.

I think you guys are missing the point. The point is that after this time period, character progression more or less stops or at least reaches a point where it does not matter anymore. "Fun" is a subjective word, we cannot argue "fun". We can argue however mechanics and progression rates. The fact that item progression and character progression is done poorly and caps out too soon is what the subby is getting at. For many players, this is a huge turn off and one that ultimately impacts their enjoyment of the game.

Gameplay to me is where the game should be weighted most heavily. Anyone can "roleplay" in a game. You do not need to create much of any structure to foster this.

I feel the same way. There is no reason to carry on. Climb up to the top of the Throat of the World and jump.

I have nearly 200+ hours played across 6 characters. You're doing it wrong OP. Start a new character that isn't the same as your current one.

Do you not see how mental this is?

I have Chronic Insomnia for ONE, and for TWO, I RARELY get 2-3 hours of sleep per night without the use of Medications. I am running on 36 hours of no sleep at the moment, thanks for your inconsiderate opinion.

But yeah, it's totally my fault right? I have such an issue, I really need help.
People like you are sickening, and I really would like to know what your solution would be. Thanks in advance for any grandiose further opinions.

I know that feel bro. After 260 hours played across several characters, I have to admit I'm becoming slightly bored.

...but that's more time than I've spent on most games, so no complaints here. Besides, we're still waiting for the CK.

You cannot help but rush the game. That is the problem. Due to how leveling works and how quickly you get gear - capping perks and tiers of gear comes way too quickly to enjoy it. In all honesty I would rather crafting be taken out of the game entirely and go solely to a unique and random drop system. This is far more appealing and rewarding to FIND gear. I don't see any benefit of having crafting in the game other than to try to replicate an MMORPG system. Crafting generally is not used for a single character but as a way to grow an economy. There is no economy in Skyrim, therefore it does not really have a point.

You have absolutely no idea what kind of person I am, you're basing it of a comment I made, assuming you were exaggerating your game hours. Even disregarding sleep, that magnitude of game hours is ridiculously high.

Seek the help you need, and I wish you the best.
