Still No Patch?

Post » Mon Apr 11, 2011 8:10 pm

Let's just say that it's understandable for those small companies with very limited initial found, so they just want to cash in first then, usually they will do their best to fix the game. However, what I'm concered here is that will there be any patches coming out. Cuz you see, those big issues aint new, they are from FO3 engine for god's sake.

Why the heck did Black Isle go out of business, damn, such a good game, furthermore, a set of world was lost just like that.

Just look at the stupid story line, are we morons or what. Definitely aint gotta buy anymore games from this company. Too damn greedy and got no nutrition in their games.

Uninstalling FNV.................

Installing fallout 2................

Lmao.

Just want to point out, many of Obsidians people came from Black Isle. Many of them worked on the originals.

As for why Black Isle shut down? Interplay was being run by some pretty poor business guys and decided Black Isles was an unneccesary drain of cash. so they shut Black Isle down, cancelled Van Buran and made and released Brotherhood of Steel instead.

We’ve come up with solutions for the Xbox 360 save issue folks are reporting, along with a number of other issues being reported. We’re currently running final testing and certification on a comprehensive patch for all three platforms (PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3), so we’ll have something available in the coming weeks.

...i wasen't expecting to see the patch a week later or even two, but now november is over and in a few days this annoucement is one full month old.

no i don't think it's stil time "to be patient", i have enough now of endless empty words and patch and final touches annoucements, the game still has a lot of bugs and it's time now to finally show some real support and finally release a "comprehensive" patch and not only a small hotfiix like the 1.2.0.285 was!

The update is still in the final stages for all three platforms.

Sorry, I don't have an exact date on when it will be available -- but when we know, we'll share news and let you know what it covers.

Thanks for your patience.

Must be difficult to choose between not posting anything and posting a series of "still in development, no ETA, will let you know when I know" messages. Either choice is likely to annoy some people.

Without predicting a date (which isn't reasonable), some specificity of what has been accomplished is needed, otherwise you just appear evasive in your responses. For example, what does "final stages" mean exactly? What activities have been completed?

I would hope for an update from Bethesda that had more context and meaning to your customers such as this simple example (using completely bogus game, patch numbers, duration and other info just for illustration):

Week Ending 05/09/2014
  • Bethesda/Obsidian: Fallout: New Braska - Patch 1.2 coding complete 05/05/2014
  • Bethesda/Obsidian: Submitted Patch 1.2 to QA 05/12/2014, complete 05/09/2014

Week Ending 05/16/2014
  • Bethesda/Obsidian: Fallout: New Braska - Patch 1.2 coded and QA complete 05/12/2014
  • Sony: Received Patch 1.2 for certification 05/13/2014
  • Microsoft: Received Patch 1.2 for certification 05/13/2014
  • Steam: Received Patch 1.2 for certification 05/13/2014, Certification complete 05/16/2014
  • Steam: Released Patch 1.2 to production 05/16/2014

By communicating like this, you're not making any promises or predicting the future or anything unreasonable like that. You would merely be reporting what has been accomplished. Otherwise the elusive tone and repetition of the word "soon" leads to confusion and false accusations of inactivity by the more reactive members of the customer community.

I'd be happy with a "Hopefully next week" post but I can only imagine what would happen if it didn't come out next week. It would be nice to know how close is close though.

I would guess (and expect) that Bethesda is contractually barred from giving any information that could reveal whether Sony, MS or Valve are causing a delay in the release of a patch.

Perhaps, but they could at least share what they have completed. It could rationally be implied that after a certain point things were out of their hands (and into their platform partners' hands) based on their stated progress.

All this "soon" "and "we don't know anything" business lends the notion that patch development is some sort of strange alchemy that happens by magic and statuses are completely unknown until the patch mysteriously arrives on their door in a completed fashion. But it's not alchemy, it's software development. There are people within Bethesda whose job is to know exactly where they are status-wise on any given project, so culling out completed milestones and sharing the forward progress shouldn't be difficult.

Otherwise, what's the point of Bethesda even having official Community Managers if they are gagged to the point of not being able to communicate effectively? The volunteer moderators could do a wonderful job of saying "soon" and "we'll tell you when we know something" along with their other duties and still convey the same amount of usable information.

I think what's taking so long is they're trying to make one huge fix everything patch. This is not well thought out (but way too common recently).

Software should be fixed on a bug by bug bases.

Problem with doing many small patches is QA time - which should be the major portion of time spent (but obviously wasn't!) in program debugging: you need to QA on EVERYTHING every time you do a patch to make sure that nothing new breaks with the patch!

Who wants to bet me that this guy will still troll the forums even though he returned his copy of the game?

I lucked out i guess and my game is very playable. Although, i went ahead and finished it. But, like many of you, i shelved mine too until the patch comes out and plan to load my last saved game before the finale. Lots of quests are broken that i still want to do. No big deal really because i have other games i can still play in what little spare time i seem to have these days.

Hang in there fellas. In the end (soon), the game will be well worth your hard earned money. Think of it as lay-away. lol

He has every right to complain. Even if he returned the game.

For some people it takes awhile for the frustration and heartbreak to dissipate....

Let them rant...it's a from of therapy. Nobody says you have to read it.

I would imagine the patch will be released in-line with the DLC patch (enabling achievements, DLC compatibility, etc.) on the 360. So 21 Dec or there abouts. I wouldn't hold your breath, however...

While I wouldn't be surprised if they add necessary elements for the DLC in the patch, they'd have little reason to delay the patch until the DLC came out. Without the DLC files themselves any additions they make to the engine would be pretty much invisible to the player.

I can say this much... if I could have returned the game, I would have returned the game by now. I haven't been able to play in so long that I don't really remember where I was, what I was planning to do, or which mission I was on... and I bought this game to quench my gaming thirst for a while. I can't afford to buy games all the time, but when I do, I would like them to work long enough for me to get engaged in the game and enjoy it. Instead, what happens is I get a few minutes of gaming, a couple minutes of worry about the next crash, and then the inevitable crash. Usually this leads to another short bout of being angry at myself for picking this game over just about any other game the last time I bought a game.

So... yeah... I'm running seriously short on patience with this game and will ABSOLUTELY think twice before buying a newly released Bethesda game again... and I've been playing Fallout since Fallout was Wasteland...

I'd be happy to know simply what the patch will contain. i'm having issues with faction rep. the fact i'm hated, but still able to leisurely stroll into an encampment of enemies without fear of attack forced me to stop playing.
However, if this is not going to be addressed in the upcoming patch I might go ahead and play further. Anyhoo, hopefully the wait will not be much longer.

I would love to know as well what it contains, the game is not even playable for me since it crashes to desktop anywhere outside Vegas area. It has been like this since the last patch. :(

I have it on good authority that people are returning their game (All platforms, but less so on PS3) to stores in droves here in the UK. The stores involved (Game, Gamestation and many others) would be clearly involved and informing Zenimax of this. This could be why Bethesda/Obsidian are taking so long to fix this giant abortion of a game, they have contractual and financial reasons to get this fixed PROPERLY.

I wouldnt be surprised that the first DLC is delayed.

So any moron that says "it works for most people" with NO EVIDENCE is an over opinionated liar. Ignore them, and rant away. Its your right as a human being.

Lastly, incase some of you dont know, if anyone has Windows 7 and cant get the game to work, you are be eligible for a refund.
Despite being advertised on the boxed copy that its Windows 7 compatible, support officials from Bethesda/Obsidian have said that it is NOT compatible, meaning that the game is sold under a false pretense (Mis Selling of goods act here in the UK) and therefore by law, must be refunded

Anyone who got a report that it was not compatible with Windows 7 should check again.

Fallout 3 was not officially supported under Windows 7, but New Vegas is. Some support people were erroneously giving the same answer as from the Fallout 3 days in the beginning.

Should be interesting to see, in the long run, what "droves" actually amounts to. More than five million copies of the game shipped, but I haven't seen any real reports on return numbers yet.

With regards to your defense of support, this is a recent occurrence of such responses that Im aware of, not something that was only stated in the first few weeks of release. This is relatively verifiable with some Googling and searching these very forums (If said posts havent been censored)

Droves, or "droves" as you sarcastically put it, means exactly that. Specific numbers arent needed in this case. Never in the time that these contacts have worked for such companies have they experienced and I quote "...so many people bringing back a game" and even include complaints saying, quote, "alot of (customers) who bring it back are saying they get the RRoD from it."

Something is clearly massively amiss.

I know of one poster who was told by Bethesda tech support that Windows 7 wasn't supported. That poster contacted them back to ask specifically about support for Windows 7 and was told the previous answer was incorrect. That Windows 7 is officially supported and was tested.

The game works just as well under Windows 7 as under Vista and XP, so there is no reason for it not to be supported.

And I'll agree that something is amiss. Aside from anonymous contacts being quoted by you, the RROD is caused by an XBox hardware flaw, not by a game that is run on it.
