Don't even attempt to convince Steam haters to convert. Their too ignorant.

Steam ate my baby.

@Wizard of thay
I can't see the step forward.

The same troubles as Windows Life with a buggy steam release at the start (Dr. with rolling head, steam community features breaks the game, ...)
Steam Anti Piracy had not the desired effect only a two hours after release ;).
The game was cheaper to buy in the shop for me as at steam.
Windows Live could be completely disabled if you wanted to. There is no official way to get rid of steam.
You are not able to resale PC versions (XBOX and PS3 without steam can be)

And to get on topic again patches aren't delivered faster with steam as was told by most of the steam fans.

No advantages, only another unwanted spying Adware on my PC.

Hoping it'll be in the next few days. I don't have an exact ETA. When we know it's up, we'll let you know. We're putting together notes on the update, too.

Thx! :fallout:

Quick update:

PC update could be up on Steam as early as tomorrow. We'll confirm that it's up as soon as we know.

I think they're waiting on the patch posting to at least one of the update services (Steam, PSN, Xbox Live) before releasing a changelist. I know it does seem like that the PC version is final at this point so maybe they could post a changelog though. It would be nice to get to see what bugs we shouldn't have to worry about anymore.

Does this mean anything to anyone? "Submitted" to whom and for what? If this has been submitted for certification, it won't be available for at least a week if past experience is any indication. This isn't particularly useful without some elaboration such as an ETA and a changelist.

PS3 and Xbox patches need to be "certified" by the respective companies. PC updates on Steam, AFAIK, do not.

It's two days since Bethesda announced a patch for FNV, but it still hasn't arrived.

As a corresponding example, the two-man devteam on Super Meat Boy announced they'd handed a patch to Steam about 10 hours ago, and then the game was auto-patched. That has been the pattern with all of their (frequent) patches so far.

I actually doubt the FNV patch has even entered the queue to go live yet.

new vegas is more complex than meat boy I guess, so it takes longer to verify it's compatibility and functionality or whaterver it is they are verifying.

This is all reasonable (especially considering the Doc Mitchell launch-debacle), but none of this precludes us from being given a changelist if the patch is complete. My money is on the likelihood that it is open in notepad on someone's computer while they desperately run around the office asking people "what did we fix?"

Because they always release the list when the patch is released? Otherwise if it gets bumped back to them for some new fix prior to approval and distribution they would be updating it to exclude or include something?

Anyway they have told us the patch notes will be provided upon release.

I'm going to close this for a few minutes to clean out the flames. Be right back to open.

I would think its best to back up your saves, then reinstall the game and test your mods.

Makes sense. However, it is still annoying. Steam just compounds the issue. Don't believe there is a way to roll back to a previous patch if this one breaks everything. For example fallout 3's 1.5 patch, which took a long time to get fixed :P

Someone suggested to copy the .exe file elsewhere, before installing the patch, with the idea that you can copy it back and it'll revert the game back (assuming you stay offline of course). I don't know if it actually works, but I may do that so if I dislike the patch, I can at least try it.

You could also just set the game to not automatically receive updates, then wait and read some public opinions of it. If it isn't buggy as hell, enable auto-updates and enjoy. If it seems like people are saying it's buggy and more broken than before, just leave the auto-updates off.

That does not work for me. I toggle that option but as soon as I go back online it resets itself and starts downloading.
It's also not just a matter of whether the patch makes things more buggy...perhaps there are other changes I don't like. I used to keep all patches from Diablo2 so I could reinstall/play all the different versions. Old-school.

We'll have the details when it's released.

I'm told it'll probably go up today. When I can confirm that, I'll let you know.

The game was released on October 19th, 2010...

And the patch is coming out this week or next. So basically, Obsidian needed another 2 months to actually finish the game, but it was decided to stick to the original release date so it could be pushed out before the holiday season. In turn, fans, customers, what have you, get a technical abortion of a game and it's "too bad, so sad" from there because once we crack the seal on it, we own it. Will developers and publishers ever be held accountable for this kind of business practice?

Profit and the directors new Bentley are always infinitely more important than the happiness of the customer.
Thats just how it is.

I do think it is just idiotic to announce patches with vague release schedules, this just pisses people off even more.

gamesas & Obsidian aren't brand new companies, how can they be so incompetent at communicating effectively with their customers?

Just in time for my second playthrough. Only had one bug (with an easy work around/fix) on the first 75+ hour playthrough.

Go you! Please stop trying to perpetuate the myth that NV isn't a horrendously broken mess of a game.
