Please just don't release only so many patches for this game. No more "Final" patches this time, fix all the bugs this time around. FO3 and dlc had several issues that were not even fixed.

LMAO at OP for posting such a topic. This doesn't exactly speed things up you know, this is a user-centric forum and not moderated by the devs. The patch will be available when it is read and in the meantime the vanilla install of the game works quite well for most people

I think what's taking so long is they're trying to make one huge fix everything patch. This is not well thought out (but way too common recently).

Software should be fixed on a bug by bug bases.

I simply don't understand why they can't use Steam to it's full potential. Other game firms go patch crazy and release lots of patches each week.
If you don't want to use steam's quick way of getting patches out to people, then why bother using it ?

J.E. Sawyer kind of implied that Obsidian was finished with the patch and had sent it to Bethesda. Bethesda is probably working on the testing of it and any tweaks needed.

I very much doubt they'd make the staff work through Thanksgiving, and I wouldn't ask them to.

Whilst it was good to hear the great man himself personally announce that sniper rifles would be tweaked in the forthcoming mega-patch, I'm sure folks around here would want to hear more about the fixes for the cowboy repeater / trail carbine bugs....

Or indeed something to alleviate all those CDTs / system freezers that are plaguing paying consumers everywhere.

Obsidian staff should work through 'Thanksgiving' as a form of penance to fix this mess of a game. I wouldn't even give 'em a turkey sandwich....

It was a joke anyway. The patch probably won't be out until early next week sometime.

I wouldn't be surprised if Beth and Valve had some people working overtime over the long weekend, though, so it might be earlier.

While I want them to get that patch out pronto, I do not want them to give up their holiday for it. Hope the folks at Bethesda and Obsidian are enjoying their T-Day.

True that man! They could be patching this everyday if they wanted to. That's the good thing about steam. It makes my butt pucker wondering wtf these guys were doing while developing the game, and I don't think I want to answer that question. Lmao. If they didn't have [censored] for brains they could've taken advantage of Steam's potential.

Considering the flak they took when they released the last patch and it introduced two new bugs, I'm not surprised they are holding off on this one.

Plus they get flak for releasing patches on PC before Xbox and PS3.

If they could have set up a beta program for New Vegas patches, that might have worked.

I suspect that Obsidion has had the patch completed for quite sometime, but is still waiting for approval from various sources (microsoft, bethesda, valve, etc). As I understand it, this amount of bureaucratic oversight can really slow things down. I also suspect that were it not for these third party approvals, Obsidion would be free to release patches on a daily basis, as some of you are suggesting.

I remember I used to work for a hardware manufacturer that released new drivers and patches every so often. Due to the politics, licencing and red tape involved, we were required to get Sony's permission before even a minor release. Our code monkeys would usually complete a patch and our internal QA would check it out and approve it within a couple days after the initial request. Then they would send up to Sony would could take up to a month and a half to approve the patch.

The sad thing is, due to terms in some fine print somewhere, we weren't allowed to tell our angry customers that Sony was the one holding things up; So we were the ones that got crapped on.

All I'm saying is don't default blame on obsidion. They aren't the only cooks in the kitchen.

What does Microsoft and Valve have to do with anything?

With Obsidian's track record I think that people's concerns are completely valid. Alpha Protocol still isn't fixed. Everything Obsidian puts out is very buggy at release. I guess that it's job security at the publishers dime.

As usual, the game community will have to fix the bugs for Bethesda through an unofficial patch. Many crashes will still remain though as they did in Oblivian/Fallout 3. Pretty pathetic for an otherwise respectable game company.

Valve owns steam. Microsoft owns xbox. Sony owns playstation. When developing, releasing, and patching a cross-platform application, they're all involved.

I would imagine valve is pretty easy going, but I know Microsoft and Sony get a little persnickety if you submit a patch through their distribution system without checking with them first.

I seriously doubt that Obsidian has anything further to do with the game at this point, especially patches. That's all Bethesda. Obsidian developed the game, that much is true. But think of it in terms of say a film director or a record producer... The director tells everybody what to do but he's not the guy behind the camera. That's the cinematographer. The record producer doesn't make the music, the artist(s) do. And Obsidian designed and developed FO:NV but any of that actual technical coding stuff is all Bethesda since it is their engine. Read the credits to the game, all Bethesda people

J.E. Sawyer is an Obsidian employee and he was the one who was reporting on changes Obsidian was making to the Sniper Rifle, the energy weapon ammo and such.

Also, Obsidian is much more likely to know what is causing script related and quest related bugs, though Bethesda may know more about engine bugs.

If you don't want a buggy game then I suggest you avoid release day purchases. It is simply how the industry operates today. Until we force them to change their ways, why should they?

Games that are releasing weekly patches are failing. If they have ton continually release patch after patch to fix problems, then I don't want to be a part of that game. In the past, games were unlucky to even see a 1.5 patch.

Even then, release days will still be a headache for many. Developers can only do so much testing. The true test of a game is when it does get out to the public and their vastly different hardware combinations then the developers.

that's their problem. it's not a question of hardware configurations. those are significant but still finite. it's a question of proper staffing. few companies staff to the level they should, and QA is always one of the first to get underfunded and staffed because the suits don't see it as a money maker, only a money burner. it's that simple, and that repulsive. and gamers have made this problem worse. too many can't throw money at these companies fast enough, so their incentives to play well with others are seriously reduced. that's our fault, not theirs.

heck, i knew the industry was racing to the toilet when the whole silly idea of "pre-ordering" came out and actually took hold. this is probably the single worst habit of gamers, because its like trying to play poker with all of your cards showing face up.

That's true, but I was referring to non-scripting bugs like CTD, etc. J.E. Sawyer was hired from the community, he probably knows the engine better than the devs

Let's just say that it's understandable for those small companies with very limited initial found, so they just want to cash in first then, usually they will do their best to fix the game. However, what I'm concered here is that will there be any patches coming out. Cuz you see, those big issues aint new, they are from FO3 engine for god's sake.

Why the heck did Black Isle go out of business, damn, such a good game, furthermore, a set of world was lost just like that.

Just look at the stupid story line, are we morons or what. Definitely aint gotta buy anymore games from this company. Too damn greedy and got no nutrition in their games.

Uninstalling FNV.................

Installing fallout 2................

Lmao.

Two new bugs, are you kidding me? The patch made the game unplayable for me and many other ATI users...
