TES Fantasy Baseball #1

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 9:08 am

Unfortunately I think the masking agents are ahead of the testing. I understand a gradual increase in home runs, but what he did in one year was just not natural imo.

PS: Is this thread just for fantasy, or can it be for baseball in general? Would like a thread to talk up my Rays

This usually ends up being the general baseball thread, though I would prefer to see a separate one. I think a different thread would encourage more participation from baseball fans not in this fantasy league.

That was such a joy to watch. 119 pitches, and 82 went for strikes. First Rangers shutout of the Yanks since August 16, 2000.

I always raised my eyebrow at him going from never hitting more than 18 homers to what he did the last 2 years. I'm calling fluke or roids.
Meh, I would disagree. You could say the same thing for Bautista or Ellsbury if that was the case, and you can be sure that Ellsbury isn't juicing.

Bautista said that his production came from a tweak in his batting stance...which I find a little hard to believe, but at the same time, I don't think there's any way they could get away with PEDs in the game today.

How so? I can't be sure of anything.

Well, for one thing, he isn't massive.

But seriously, Braun was caught juicing. Sure, he wasn't penalized due to a technicality, but it just goes to show that you can't fool the system. Hell, it's been reported by a number of sources that Bautista received way more tests after his 2010 performance, and he didn't turn up positive.

The problem is the cheaters and maskers are so far ahead of the testers it is almost irreverent to test.

In league related news another RP peed down his own leg and blew another save. I might need to rethink my approach to pitching.

Oh yeah, Micheal Pineda is out for the year with a labrum tear. Too bad for the kid :(

I don't know what you mean when you say they are "ahead of the testers." The drug tests are random; that's what makes them unpredictable and negates the players' ability to predict when they are happening.

Welp, guess that means I can drop him now.

On a more positive Gauchos note, my offense is going off tonight.

I mean the cheaters are using things that the testers don't even know exist, or can't test for. Doesn't matter when the test is if they give the wrong test.

I'm assuming you're referring to the tests that require blood drawing before games, which players obviously wouldn't consent to since it hinders their performance?

Pujols is going to turn it around.

Do you really believe that, cause I'm doubting it.

Oh, he will...there's no doubting that the best player in the past decade will remain one of the best for the next few years. I still have my doubts of him hitting 40+ HRs and 120+ RBIs, but should put up respectable numbers.

Besides, he's moving from a pitching league to a hitting league. There's no reason that he should be performing this poorly. I'm guessing it's just a fluke so far.

Yes, I do. It's going to take a lot for me to think the best player of my generation is done.

Are a lot of closers really, really bad this year or is it just my bad luck that my closers are really bad? Between my 2 leagues I haven't seen so many horrendous blown saves in one year, much less less than one month. Maybe just selective memory.

Also Carl Crawford is off to see Dr Andrews about his sore elbow. The next press release after that is usually Tommy John surgery. :fingerscrossed:

No, there does seem to be a lot closers laying eggs. It's kind of odd.

That's how I feel, too, about closers. Why, just this afternoon, one of the Mead Drinkers, Jordan Walden, threw an impressive 0.0 IP, 2H, 2ER, to blow a save.

I have a total of 6 saves on my team; that's complete garbage. I'm sporting Valverde, Santos, Walden and Marmol. How can they get so few opportunities?

From what I've heard, Crawford won't need surgery, but he will need extended recovery from a sprained (not torn) UCL. Most places are reporting 2-3 months out for him.

And I feel bad for the people who picked up Humber on a whim after his perfect game. Oh, wait...no I don't .

I'm trying to decide whether or not to pick up Aviles. He's been smoking, but I don't know if he'll be able to keep it up.

On the other hand, Youkilis is definitely turning it around. A good acquisition?

I'm pissed I missed out on Trout. I had picked him up in my keeper league on Thursday but couldn't afford to have a minor league player on my roster here. The Gauchos got him just minutes before I tried to get him.
