TES Fantasy Baseball #1

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 12:39 am

Time for a new season of TES Fantasy Baseball! As most of us know, Thadeus Rains hoisted the Tiber Septim Memorial Trophy last year, beating out the favorite (with good reason) Ratwar by a sizeable margin of 8-2-0 to win the championship. Congratulations again Thadeus, we'll all be looking to dethrone you this year.

This year we welcome three new members to the league: Undead Fiend, Bitter Coast, and Suffca. Good luck to you guys and girls.

We normally don't have enough baseball pvssyr to warrant two threads, so we'll use this thread for fantasy baseball and just general baseball talk. Don't be afraid to drop in and talk even if you aren't in the league.

Anyways, last year's standings:

1. North Texas Gauchos
2. Ratwar's Horkers
3. Blernsball Braves
4. Gstaff Infection
5. Red's Rockerz
6. Clan Chowdah
7. Team NinjaFish
8. Canadia Giraffes
9. New Jersey Mariners
10. Thirsk Mead Drinkers.

On to a new year...

Damn. Thought I could win the week. Instead the Mead Drinkers forfeit their OPS. Fine. I see how its gonna be.

I am about to punt all RP catagories and give my RPs away for nothing. The White Sox new cloers comes out and gives up a solo HR to the first batter he saw. My closers have more HRs allowed than outs.

EDIT: There we go he got an out.

EDIT2: And Santiago ends the game with 2 Ks to get the save.

I didn't realize I came in 10th. In my head it was 8th or 7th. Well its a new year.

A little early to say, but my pitching really hasn't been up to par so far. At least the offense can get something done.

And on the bright side, even though Gonzo didn't have a great game, the Red Sox got their first win.

What a crazy end to that game, you would think I owned Santos or something.

Drew Storen is heading to meet up with Dr. Andrews. He was my number one closer prospect. :(

Yes, it's in the first post.

Anyway, I'm currently in 2nd place in my 6 team league. I might be at a slight pitching disadvantage (starting and closing), but my offense has been absolutely killing in the first few games. One of my league's teams dropped Marmol, so I'm trying to pick him up in a free-agent auction tonight (we do that instead of waiver claims) which should bolster my saves and strikeouts (I'm willing to sacrifice a little in the way of ERA, especially for a guy who'll only pitch 70-80 innings).

Two of my big guns (Pedroia and Adrian Gonzalez) have been quiet tonight which is disappointing, but I've gotten a couple of homers from other guys and I'm confident they'll bounce back.

My team has completely tanked.

Edit.

Actually it looks like my offense has come through since the last time I looked, but Lincecum has been a complete bust.

Look at my roster and make me an offer for Lincecum. (Mancrush talking, but still...).

Been talking a trade with one of my friends...I send him Beckett and Starlin Castro in exchange for C.J. Wilson. Fair trade in your guys' opinion? I'm a little hesitant to let Castro go, but I'm reasonably sure I can pick up a guy off waivers who'll put up good numbers to replace him...I was thinking Neil Walker or Ryan Roberts.

Here's the rest of my team:

Brian McCann
Adrian Gonzalez
Freddie Freeman
Dustin Pedroia
Emilio Bonifacio
Starlin Castro
Miguel Cabrera
Derek Jeter (yeah, I know...will probably pick up Jennings in place of him once Cabrera gets 3B eligibility)
Lance Berkman
Carlos Beltran
Melky Cabrera
Chris Young
Josh Willingham
B.J. Upton

Jon Lester
Matt Cain
Cole Hamels
Jeremy Hellickson
Josh Beckett

And my relief is irrelevant in talking about this trade.

I don't know what my team is doing, but I don't like it. How in the world does Justin Verlander not only give up a no-hitter in the eighth, but gives up four runs and loses? That's just ridiculously bad luck for an owner.

My friend and I managed to hammer the deal down to Starlin Castro for C.J. Wilson, straight across with no strings attached. I think this is pretty fair; it lets me keep Beckett as a bench starter and will give me an extra 170 Ks or so on the season since I can start him on days when one of my main starters might not be pitching. It'll force me to give up one of my relievers (I have 3 bench spots, and 2 of them have relievers), but I think the deal is pretty solid. Thoughts?

I'm not sure If I give up Wilson for Castro. Although, I guess it depends on how it affects the given team.

Well, I was the one getting Wilson :P.

Anyway, I went ahead with the deal since I get get someone that'll respectfully be able to put up Castro-type numbers. I'm pretty happy.

I know, I was speaking for the other party involved.

So, it would seem that my team is basically cursed when it comes to relievers. It's rather annoying.

It's never good to be happy that someone was injured just because it hurts a team's ability. I don't have Ellsbury on my team, but if he really misses a significant chunk of time, the Sox are going to be in deep [censored].

I'm a huge Sox fan. I was never happy at Ellsbury's injury. I was just stating a fact. That stud is down for the count.
