TESV Acceleration Layer offers massive possible performance

Post » Sun May 27, 2012 9:11 pm

OK, I hate to interrupt this thread of great technical merit with a stupid question, but.....I downloaded skse and put it in my skyrim folder, how do I open it or unzip it?
The question is not stupid, but it is a bit unexpected. For some people unzipping these files is practically automatic, like doing your tie (if one uses one), and it is awkward to suddenly describe at the basic level. The last SKSE I downloaded was in a .7z archive, and that would require that you download and install a program called 7-Zip that can open it. If you got SKSE from Skyrim Nexus, I believe they should have instructions somewhere specifically answering your question.

I deleted about 30 posts of bickering. If you want to bicker, do so via PM. No more bickering in this thread. I am now done bickering about the bickering. See how tedious this gets when all people do is bicker?

If you don't like the mod, post why, once, and then remove the mod. Go back to a save from before you loaded it if you think it affected your save. You should always make a forked save before trying any mod out.

If you are having an issue with the mod and want to try and fix it, post that. Although your answer may already be here in this thread. If you want to post results of the mod, good or bad, then do so. Anything else is not for this thread.

It's Christmas, I really don't want to Warn anyone on Christmas.

Just Attempted to start a new game with & without Acceleration Layer active, both have the same results. After pressing new game in both cases, the loading screen freezes and you just hear music, alt tabing out shows 3.2gb of memory in use just after clicking new game. Should I wait 10 minutes to see If I can even start a new game? I think something far sinister affects me lol..

For me, who is playing Skyrim on an old PC, I haven't notice much difference in the number of fps, however this mod is actually a cure for periodic freezing. While before I used this, my game used to freeze quite often for up to 5-6 seconds twice in a row, mostly in the mountains, now I have yet to experience any kind of freeze whatsoever.
So, even though it has some issues, i highly recommend to all low spec players to either use this mod or at least track it until a issue-free version appears. It is that good!

Through my incredible powers of deduction you were previously only getting about 16-17FPS in towns then. Its a straight up percentile increase in performance not a specific +10 FPS enchantment. ;)

Bug report. While doing "Silenced Tongues" in Volunruud, after getting the ceremonial weapons inserted into the doors, I was not able to load into the next zone, Elder's Cairn. I tried several different things to no avail. I deleted this file and tried again and loaded in with no difficulty. I've only been using this a short time, but it stands to reason that if it prevents a load in for one zone, it might do it to others as well. Something to look at.

The latest update to the plugin has received confirmation on the Ralof, cave-in, and invisible forge bugs being fixed.

I don't know if this will help or not, but regarding the delayed actions with Ralof and the starting area. I have found that using the "set timescale to" console command while in the cart at the start of the game causes exactly those issues. I'm guessing people weren't silly enough to test this plugin and use that command, but I thought it worth mentioning just incase people were setting that command right away when starting a new game because they had used a different timescale in their previous game. Also, maybe this indicates that some of the stuff in the intro is timed, which might help those working on the plugin. Just my 2 cents, probably not helpful.

As I posted before, I started a new character and had no problems at Helgen. Scripts all seemed to run fine.
But I just read about the invisible forge in Understone Keep. I loaded my previous character and went there and the forge was indeed invisible. I started without SKSE and the forge was back. I tried SKSE without the TESVAL Plugin and the forge was still there. I reactivated the plugin and the forge was invisible again. :(

Then I tried this updated version: Forge is back.
I can't test any of the other reported anomalies as I didn't encounter any of them.

Thanks for this updated version! :)

Hey guys,

as noted yesterday, I don't have much free time during Christmas. However, I can confirm that the original code for Patches.replace.test_bit_30 was flawed.
The "setnz" should've been "setz". The fixed version posted above also solves this problem by simply inverting the wrong value (the neg transforms 0 -> 0 or 1 -> -1, the add transforms from 0 -> 1 or -1 -> 0).

there's indeed a substantial performance increase when using this fix.

here's a screenshot comparison with FPS numbers. I disabled AA/AF to make sure I'm not GPU limited here. I usually play with 4xSSAA/8xAF

http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/2176/vanillaq.jpg

here's the exact same spot, running this performance fix:

http://img843.imageshack.us/img843/187/fixedo.jpg

It jumps from 26 FPS to 32 FPS.

Generally, I can confirm that performance goes up between 20 and 30% with this fix.

This is an outrage. If they really skipped any streaming extension whatsoever for x86 CPUs then I really have to ask myself why I bought this game in the first place.

If there's anyone out there with an AMD Athlon Thunderbird processor (no SSE support) and a DX9 capable graphics card, please confirm if you can run the game or not.

Yes. This additional "n" causes the function to return 0 when it should've returned 1 and vice versa. The fixed version transforms all 1 -> 0 and vice versa, so it effectively negates that mistake :).
I'm also sorry for any inconveniences this may have caused. Please accept my apologies. While I do test my code with the savegames I have, I'm just a normal player and don't have the resources to play everything from start to search for possible side-effects.

Arguably, that's true of ANY mod. No modification is 100% safe, and Bethesda proved their own patches aren't even 100% safe with Patch 1.2 breaking a lot of stuff. Aint that the truth

We have tons of people trying this mod out with no issues whatsoever, and most of those that do have the Helgen bug don't have further script / AI issues so far. Include me here

We need more people testing it out and giving us data. Ok

I know my Game. The plugin Tesval Rocks. I can load and unload and see the differences in the FPS. Guaranteed working.

So I started a new game to see if everything is working. I didn't notice anything different. Everything seamed to run the same as the other 2 times I started new. I was snapping pics as I played thru...

Dear Son of Skyrim, thank you for the link. I just copied it, but I did not encounter any performance icnrease over the file that I've already had. I understand that this is merely a bug fix?

Anyway, You appear to have a similar configuration to what I have (GPU doesn't matter here, I get the same crap perfromance even with 4xSSAA). What are your experiences with this patch?

I must admit, I've gotten a MASSIVE performance increase with this, talking about jumps from 25 to 35 in certain cases and a general +20% in clearly CPU limited areas.

To the author:
This is pure gold. I upgraded my mainboard+RAM today and reinstalled windows and erased my savegames, WTF. I planned on starting skyrim all over again and now this comes out? [snip] you gave me the best christmas gift, ever.
