HR texture pack out.. Can we get some screenshots? (stuck at

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 5:44 pm

Those screens are so old, some of them from the beginning of 2011.

I saw that, and I was wondering if those old screenshots were from some high-res textures that they used to develop the game, then swapped out lower-res texture files for release. Wouldn't be very nice, I suppose, using high-res images in marketing shots that didn't reflect the game at release, but I suppose it could be the case.

Actually some Devs do indeed use this tactic and don`t even bother using the better res on release, so I guess we`re lucky.

You can preview the high res textures while downloading if you have a BSA browser. Just open HighResTexturePack01 or 02 and extract one of the upper files.

Last shot looks much, much better.
I would like to see non modded games though, and 3 and 4 are obviously modded, and is that some awful fxaa sharpening?

Basically, the textures are a bit better, but not better than many of the texture mods. It's a good base install, then I can overwrite it with HD 2/4K, Serious HD, and RWT.

Thing is though those textures show a greater comparison in terms of quality because they are different textures.

Is this what the commotion is all about? Theres dozens of mods that have improved textures greatly over this....I guess theres a reason its free.

Steam servers are too busy.

Guys, would you mind pausing your downloads for a bit so that I can get mine in?

As if :-) Like nobody would want to play with the high-res textures? I'm getting around 8% of the expected speed so don't go complaining. I guess it's irony, but if it's not the case you're a bit selfish (just like everybody else here I guess). I'm just wondering why steam doesn't utilize torrent technology, since it would really take the strain off their servers and people would generally get a much faster download.

It still only shows up in my DLC-tab as "ValveTestApp" and nothing is downloading. What went wrong?

How does one uninstall it? (i admit, I clicked before I thinked.) If it slows down my pc too much how do i go back to the non-hr? it's my first steam dlc
I saved my game before installing. If the new textures make problem, I'll just restore the saved game. ;)

Its better.. just "only" not as much better as I thought it would be, but it′s not bad.

That is because the Normal maps have been upgraded as well, good news as these are way harder to mod in properly without having access to Beths million poly origonal 3D models.

What does that mean exactly? One of these 2 mods are not taking effect anymore until they get updated or the effect it′s just different because of the new resolutions?

I think what some people might be forgetting is that only some of the textures looked poor. The ones that did had fairly noticeable improvement when switched to the high-res version - but some textures looked pretty good even in low-res, and so I guess the high-res version only showed minor improvement, if any.

btw.. Didnt notice any framerate loss.

So.. I guess the Flora overhaul mod is still valid to have? ^^ or the seriosus landscape one?

Really? I didn't know they were going to be upgrading any models at all beyond the textures. I do wish they had included higher-polygon-count models in the game, and had the LOD changes affected by sliders. I remember downloading some extremely high-polygon models for Starfleet Command and Starfleet Command 2 that would likely have melted some lower-end computers, but the modders (some of them) were pretty good about including multiple proper LOD models.
