It's an improvement for sure but it's still miles away from mod quality which is a shame. I'll use them nonetheless :)

People were asking for shots of NPC clothing and blocky faces:

Low Res: http://www.imgplace.com/viewimg513/9545/20adriannelores.png

High Res: http://www.imgplace.com/viewimg189/5/49adriannehires.png

Screenshots really don't do the hi-res pack justice, you have to see ingame.

Btw Thanks @Liquidpinky, Gram & Axeface for the explanations, now I got it =)

So actually the ligthign mods doesnt need any update, the objects just reflect light in a different way.

I am downloading so slow lol.

So just to be clear...doing the following:

You can also use Skyrim HD with the official HD pack covering the points this one doesn't.
To do it deactivate both HighResTexturePack01.esp e HighResTexturePack02.esp and modify your skyrim.ini like this:

[Archive]
sResourceArchiveList=Skyrim - Misc.bsa, Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Skyrim - Textures.bsa, HighResTexturePack01.bsa, HighResTexturePack02.bsa, Skyrim - Interface.bsa, Skyrim - Animations.bsa, Skyrim - Meshes.bsa, Skyrim - Sounds.bsa
sResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim - Voices.bsa, Skyrim - Voicesixtra.bsa

Will allow us to use Beths HD textures as default...then anything else third party thats in the "textures/meshes" etc folders, will take priority? So mods like Vurts and RWT are none affected, because they are taking dominance over?

I.E. is it basically just telling the game that the HD pack is default and not a "mod" so its perfectly fine to do what we like as normal and replace what we see fit?

Still a bit confused, but im guessing this is correct?

They just reflect more accurately thanks to the higher res maps.
There are plenty mods with higher resolution textures but their normal maps are flat or poor. For me the Beth ones are way better as you will get detail with more volume as opposed to some flat pretty picture.
Really looking to seeing Tsun's armour that I use as it was already looking higher quality than the rest of the standard armours, the Skyforge axes as well.

Is it best to uninstall all my texture mods before installing this? And then adding them on again afterwards as needed in order to not conflict with the update? Or does it just act like another mod and will overwrite as needed?

I've done some playing and it really seems like everything is overall improved slightly. Equipment and misc items like books are the most improved. Some enemies/creatures are sharper too.

It's not groundbreaking in some places but if you pay attention to the small details you will appreciate how the pack changed things for the better.

Are these textures loose or in BSA files?

If machine can't handle the textures - what is the best way to roll back without reinstalling?

What in my current install needs to be backed up other than the current textures BSA?

Need info before I can move on this. thanks

[edit] is this misinformation:
This HD Texture pack is meh!
But that's much worse is how it also disables all other texture mods!
It sounds like misinformation. I need details not scare tactics.

The pack is in 2 .bsa files with .esp plugins for easy toggling on/off. I think the plugins are what may be overwriting textures. Technically you could extract them all yourself and just drop them in your files manually and get rid of the plugins. That way you could use both the pack and mods.

It comes as bsa's and you have to enable two esp's to activate it.

It is an improvement form the orig. but I have seen some of the moded ones and they look better this doesn't seem to be that much diff. from my console if any diff. at all.

edit: but I'm looken at screen shots on here, I wager it looks better in person.

Well according to vurt...we dont need to make INI changes are they are BSA files. His loose files are always loaded first as Skyrim looks for the "textures" and "meshes" etc folders BEFORE it looks at the BSA's so apparently we can safely use and texture modes we want as normal, as all that happens is the official HD pack is now just set as "default". So anything we install, works the same way, and just overwrites...or to be more clear, takes precedance over the BSA archives, so we don't need to worry about turning anything off of at all.

Hmm well that still doesn't make sense - loose files (as long as loading loose files and/or Archive Invalidation Invalidated) should override any and all BSA files.

Still esp - that is good.

thanks

[edited] in correct quote

and so yes that is misinformation.

One more comparison on an animal:

Low Res Horse: http://www.imgplace.com/viewimg717/2725/97horselores.png

High Res Horse: http://www.imgplace.com/viewimg13/8441/49horsehires.png

Edit: pay attention to the finer detail around the head, particularly the nostrils area.

Well apparently it doesnt matter, loose files are always loaded first anyway never mind if there ESP related or not.

So no INI tweaks need to be made...at least, im 90% sure from speaking to modders about it.

If you look both texture files are still there so if you select lower tex quailtiy in settings, it will down grade to previous textures!!

It all depends on the Texture Packs that you are using. I would imagine that some mod sorting or other method would be needed. With ESPs, just adjust the load order so the other ESPs load after this. With loose files, Archive Invalidation or some other method. See the mods section of the boards for the best way to handle this.

EDIT It may not be as complicated as dealing with an Archive Invalidation. I would test it then check with the mod authors if the other textures you want are not showing up and they can tell you what to do.

It is ESPs that pull from BSA's that are included in the mod.

Just uncheck the ESPs and the textures will not be used.

Nothing needs to be done to your current install, other than any mods that you may already have that handle Textures, see my above comment on that

Yeah, I just renamed my texture folder for now until I tested the texture pack and disabled any esp mods.
