Thank the 8 or 9? Talos: Divine or no?

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 6:02 pm

I have yet to decide whether the Nords' legend of Talos is true, as I have not yet seen any proof either way.
I do contend, though, that they have the right to worship him, even if the legend is false.
Probably why I get so much satisfaction killing Thalmor any chance I get.

Is there anything in Skyrim or in the Lore that would codify their god's existence? I haven't seen any.
I personally hope in some future DLC or Elder Scroll game the White Gold Corcordance is made null and void, maybe even Talos making an appearance! That would be cool.

What's your take?

Oh, and Thalmor not need comment. :yuck: LOL

Well legit or not he does have a shrine with actual power effects, as well as an amulet.

You can talk to Talos in Morrowind.

You use his blood as part of the blood of a divine for a quest during Oblivion.

Yes, Talos is an ascended mortal (or a triumvirate, depending on the source).

Ysmir achieved CHIM and merged with a few other mythical heros and Lorkhan to form the deity Talos.

If you call him a deity, he is technically not devine.

So are you saying Dovakiin is also devine as his blood has powers to open the Sky Haven Temple?

He's a divine.

But he's not an aedra.

Dragonborn != Divine. If you had tried to use Dovahkiin's blood for the last ritual in Oblivion it would've failed. Sky temple just needed blood of a dragonborn.

Have you clicked one of his shrines? Did you get a blessing? Do you think a 'man' could do that?

Well a daedra can give you their blessing. Doesn't mean their worth worshipping. Also mages have spells that effect others as well as having the ability to create enchanted objects. What makes you think Talos and infact all divine shrines are blessed and not merely enchanted objects of the mages?

Ysmir is a name the Nords used for Tiber Septim. It is also a name they gave to Pelinal Whitesnake. Talos is Timer Septim -- the first Dragonborn emperor who united all of Tamriel and upon his death accended to the Divine.

In the Oblivion add-on Knights of the Nine, a big bad guy comes back that the Eight helped the Knights defeat long ago. However, they couldn't fully destroy that bad guy.
However, in Oblivion, Talos had ascended as well and gives the player the power to follow the baddy after death and destroy his spirit.

What the 8 could not, the 9 could. So yes, I believe Talos (in the Elder Scrolls) is divine.

Of course if you only played Skyrim you wouldn't see that.

I don't know/not sure I care. I am against Thalmor forbidding people though.

At the same time, I understand why the Thalmor are angry about it. From what I can tell, not only was Talos a mortal, but he kinds of sounds like a piece of crap. Mind you, I think the same of my own character. That said, why am I not divine then? This is what goes through the average Thalmor's mind too, probably. "What makes this other piece of crap so special?"

so Thalmor are the way they are because they want one of they own kind to be a divine like Talos and they jealous of him being a divine when really to them he just a man.

The Thalmor know Talos is a god. They just hate him. Banning his worship was done mainly for two reasons:

1) It drives a wedge into the Empire that weakens it from the inside.

2) Humans believe that after the beginning of creation, the gods brought about the existence of mortals from the earth bones. This makes them revere Lorkhan for starting creation. Elves believe that they descended from the first beings to form and existed as spirits prior to creation. They hate Lorkhan for starting creation and forcing their spirits into a cycle of life and death as mortals.

Talos, having taken Lorkhan's mantle in the Wheel of Convention, is thus to be hated in their eyes. The Thalmor's ultimate goal is to finish destroying or disabling the remaining towers that hold together the Wheel, thus ripping apart creation and returning the universe to how it was before Lorkhan's betrayal tricked the gods into creation.

He's a divine.

Talos is Lorkhan. He may not be considered aedric because I don't think Lorkhan is considered aedric. The deity that tricked the gods into creation didn't technically participate in it.

Remember what you did in Shivering Isles?

Tiber/Wulfharth/Zurin did the same thing with Lorkhan.

The PC has never done that.

They hate Talos, because he's part of what's stopping them from ending the world and returning to being et'ada floating around doing nothing for eternity.
