Preferably Calder.

This. He was really useful for once. No more, "you lost?" when entering Hjerim.

/wrongness
I dismissed Lydia ouside of Breezehome. Rather than going inside, she turned towards the gates of Whiterun. I followed her, and took screenshots for proof.

lydia casually walking away from me out of whiterun: http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/594708803498954230/B6E85AD149B52D7A77179262D13AFA5B1BAF209C/

she wandered off the path a few times: http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/594708803498968556/5E41FF57A116BB9EA8A970F3F181F05787D1BBE2/

more walking, not paying attention to me: http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/594708803498977832/95490F8CCCBF30B5A6D6AB38FA8A92D337E2FBD8/

she wandered off to kill some dremora:
http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/594708803499008749/69A3C172C7D3D712014881CE3A836FF0EDE4A90B/

still wandering, looking off at the moon or something lol: http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/594708803499020459/3D3F14FE8B6EE7160355BDC5CC7E1F189A22B5A6/

I'm still following her, I just thought that important evidence like this should be seen ASAP. Where's she going? Who knows, maybe wherever she had been when I had to place her at me. One thing's for sure though, she's only kind of following a direct route, if I don't stop and interrupt her (which I've stopped doing) she'll wander off and look for fights.

oh yeah: here a list of my esp's in case you think I have her behavior modified somehow. I'm not asserting that this isn't caused by a glitch, but it's almost impossible to tell whether the glitch comes from a mod or the game itself, lol. It usually is with Skyrim.

An update to an earlier post, yes, Lydia at last had a date with Boethia. I lament not at her passing... As others have already mentioned, her sandbox behaviour in the house is -creepy-. Period.

Ok, i followed her for ages as shes walked through labrynthian (the HH ran by on the way, pretty exciting) and stopped at Morthal for a few moments. Then she turned and started walking back towards Whiterun, but stopped where she had fought the Dremora earlier. Even after I waited a few hours, she still is standing there, just pacing back and forth every few moments.

Check out Lydia's new "home" http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/594708803505297817/3FEC1CE7A7B176CDCA882A1BB28E677C89EAF683/

I'll have to see if that's indeed where she resides permanently in my next playthrough, or I'll try placing myself at her instead. Pretty weird though.

I don't know, I feel like I should give her some better equipment or something so she can defend herself properly out here. I was giving her gear to my next follower, but...I don't want Lydia to die out in the wilderness to some crazy sprigganmatrons.

To be fair, she isn't the first NPC not being were they were supposed to be. The Psijic monk apparently got cold feet before he was supposed to meet me at the college. Then when I spawned him he sat down and started eating some bread and Savros and Anchano had the conversation by themselves.

Has she ever been killed and resurrected in your game like a previous poster mentioned? If not, this is fascinating stuff!

I accidently killed her and didn't feel like reloading, so I stripped her of the Dragon armor I gave her and tucked her legs in and put her butt up so she's ready for any Draughr that want to have a go at her.

I don't think so. I remember she died once but she was under a pile of bodies so I just reloaded. The only things I did was to teleport her to my location at the beginning of the game because I couldn't find her and modify her health and stamina through console. I gave her a few spells too, but the only thing she'd cast was candlelight. Pretty sure I never resurrected her, but I might have, I can't remember exactly.

You created an unscripted doppelganger. Check the ID code of this "wanderlustful Lydia". This is NOT the base ID Lydia provided by the Jarl.

I inadvertently did this with Aela when she got hung up on some terrain outside of Northwind Mine. I couldn't move to a spot where she'd follow, so I went to the road and opened the console, entering player.placeatme 1a696. Well, there she was, in default gear. She immediately started off down the road, after lighting a torch (it was night). I tried talking to her, asking her to follow. She said I already had someone. She then turned on her heel and walked off. I ran back to my Aela, and she was still there. I ended up fus-ro-dah'ing her to a place that was ADA-compliant. We gained the road and continued on our way in the direction of Mistwatch.

After dispatching a sabrecat, we could see a light bobbing down the road. It then winked out. Running down there we found Aela mark II fighting some wolves, then she picked up the torch and continued, looking at me over her shoulder. We parted at Mistwatch, because I wanted to see it. That was the last I saw of her for a long time.

One day at Honeyside, I dismissed Lydia so that I could take Iona out for a stroll. On a whim, I decided to follow Lydia back to Breezehome. I detailed this in another post. Well, when we got to Fort Amol, I saw somebody ahead of us on the road. I thought I recognized the gait, and sure enough, it was Aela mark II again! I decided that it would be for the best to disable her.

So, the TLDR version is that you created a rogue Lydia. The real Lydia would never show so much ambition.

This here. And AFAIK, if you create a new copy using the console, the spot you created them becomes their "editor location". The followers typically have their "home" set as their editor location, which is where they'll return if you dismiss them. So when you dismissed the clone Lydia, she probably started traveling towards the spot where you created her. On top of that, it looks like the default NPC AI likes to do weird and random stuff when you set a package to run at a specific location(editor location in this case), and the AI has to travel there.

The above also explains people seeing Delphine chopping wood somewhere random etc. She was probably outside her Inn for the MQ, and started traveling back to the Inn, which caused her to take the scenic route, and do random stuff, like wood chopping animation on the way...

(PS: Sweet mother of [censored], that "skimpy" armor mod looks tacky... I don't mean in "eek, it's showing skin!" way. I mean in the way that someone just made a "skimpy" armor by erasing some bits of a texture to bare some midriff, and didn't give a toss about what it'd look like otherwise. I mean, the damn thing looks like it's floating half an inch above her skin for no obvious reason...)

Crazy, I never even considered that. I do recall her ID being something strange like ff00104d. It makes me wonder where the REAL Lydia is. Going to have to find that out.

Yes, the "ff... " is a dead giveaway. All NPCs IDs start with leading zeros. Now try player.moveto a2c94 to find the real McCoy, er, Lydia.

Looks fine to me. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, different strokes for different folks, etc., etc.

Thank you, Dr Phil.

I now realize that wanting a digital character to look more aesthetically pleasing may have real world consequences when it comes to my 8 years of being happily married.

How foolish I have been to go on for so long without your wisdom.

well, I couldn't get the player.moveto command to work. not sure why. I tried the code you offered a2c94, and 000a2c94, plus what my game gave me as lydia's help lydia 4 code, 000a2c8e, and a2c8e. All commands were stated to have invalid object ID's.

it's as if Lydia does not exist, so I guess I'm just going to pretend the copy effect I created is the real one. I couldn't tell the difference after several hours of playtime.

lol!
My Lydia story is that I was riding along, she was behind me, and I come across a snowy sabre cat. Im like "Whatever, Lydia will take care of it." So I go to this Dwemer ruin, and kill all the bandits outside, then I wait. After the wait is over Lydia is there on her hands and knees. (You know when she is low on health.) so I use my healing hands spell. And she is like "A healing spell, are you a priest?", but she doesn't stand back up. So I take out my sword and hit her as hard as I can. And she jumps up to the otherside of me and is just standing there with her weapon drawn and says. "Honor to see you my thane."
What the heck?

If I remember right, when you tell your companion to part ways they will go home and SOMETIMES go to a different location for just a little bit(as if they go to visit a relative)

The only odd thing that Lydia has ever done in my games is that she apparently went out and stole an Emerald from a Thieve's Guild member. I was tasked with pickpocketing her to get it back. I just made her follow me, opened her inventory and took it.
