She pretty much spends most of her time sitting in my room eating bread but I have seen her moving around up stairs a few times.

The only time I have seen her walking around outside by herself was when I dismissed her in Solitude, I expected her to fast ravel back to Whiterun but she casually made her way there on foot.

Guys if you sit on her seat, and your wife sits on the toher seat this seems to break the cycle of Lydia's bread munching and musical chairs. She started wandering round the house a bit more at least. Maybe if you disable her chair...

same here she never ever leaves my house, just munching on my bread in MY room

This is all she does.

Eats bread, drinks mead, and sits on her ass.

No good free loader.

No good freeloader?

What if Breezehome was HER home before you came along and the Jarl and assistant sold it out from under her?

Would you feel like doing more than sit around as your housecarl all day?

Consideration makes better society.

Lydia is a bit weak against Falmer, but she is good for a follower.

She actually did once. However, we simply merged.

That's the idea, lucky you.

Coming back to Breezehome, I'll find her upstairs exclusively. Usually in the chair next to the door in my bedroom, but sometimes standing in her alcove, facing one way or another. When you enter a cell that's your home, the housecarl or other resident(s) will be randomly placed. I see this every time I step out of Honeyside only to go back in because I forgot something. Lydia never does anything but travel between those two points. Yes, sitting in the chair as soon as she quits it works. She doesn't ever cook, since she's never downstairs. I suspect this is due to a terrain issue with the top of the stairs. You may have noticed that you can't simply walk up the stairs and proceed onto the landing? There's a break there, probably enough to dissuade the pathing AI.

Now for a true story of Lydia on her own. We had gone to Honeyside and I decided to take Iona out for some fun and new gear, so I dismissed Lydia. On a whim, I decided to follow her as she walked the lonely miles back to Whiterun. Past Shor's Stone and down the hill, she killed a frostbite spider. Next she decided to take a shortcut down the hill where the road zig-zags. This must've added at least 10 minutes to her trek, as it was very steep, and she'd only take one or two steps before pausing for about 15 seconds. Nothing else of note happened until crossing the bridge approaching Honningbrew Meadery. Instead of logically continuing past and towards the stables, she took a left up the hill, as if going to Helgen. Somewhat past the meadery, she realized that was the wrong route, and timidly made her way down the rough terrain between the meadery and the farm. Once on the road again, she went home.

I mentioned in another post that Aela did exactly the same thing in the quest Battle for Whiterun, where I had to chase after her all the way from Windhelm. She also took some off-road excursions yet remained parallel to the road, occasionally getting confused and having to back-track. There must be some odd breaks in the terrain that mess up AI pathing as opposed to simply following your lead.

I never saw her leaving the house unless told to follow me. She just sits the whole day in my bedroom eating bread and drinking mead. I'm surprised she hasn't put up some weight by this point.

The housecarls really lack incentive to do anything.

Iona stays on the ground floor of Honeyside, but makes use of all the chairs and occasionally cooks.

Calder at Hjerim would either sit in a chair or at the table. He was so lazy he couldn't even remember who I was. Boethia fixed that, ha ha.

Argis in Vlindrel Hall sits either at the main table, or in one of the chairs in the main room. He doesn't go anywhere else. I know, I've closed the doors before leaving, and they are always shut when I return, no matter how many days pass.

Jordis in Proudspire is another dull one. Sits at the main table, the little table by the door, or on the settle in between. Never ventures upstairs or down.

The only NPC that sort of lives a life in any of my houses is Aela. Turned loose, she'll sit and eat or drink for a time. Sometimes she'll go cook something. She'll apply herself to the enchanting and alchemy tables. I've even seen her use the grinder in Proudspire. And around 9pm she goes to bed. Sometimes she gets up in the middle of the night for some alchemy or something, other times she'll sleep past 8am. One time I did dismiss her, I think in Breezehome, when her home was in Markarth. I had forgotten that, and when I went to collect her she was gone. I used the console to place me at her, and she had almost passed Karthwasten. I decided we'd head back east. We came across a lot of dead bodies, from bandits to bears! Evidently she had some fun heading west.

Yeah, wtf.
I'm 98% sure horse isn't a race, and that the AI wouldnt have a script to not recognise you when you are a horse via a cheat.

Also, there's the small fact that Lydia doesn't have any AI packages attached that would suggest she could do what the OP claims...

Unlike Mjoll the Lioness, Lydia Huskarla (*g*) doesn't fill me up with a kn?ckebr?d collection of veteran anecdotes from the Swedish-Orcish War in the year dot. And - she loves me. Nothing else matters!

So I was in black reach, and while me and her were fighting falmer, I go off to kill some followers. Then when I come back she's nowhere to be found!!! I didn't see her body anywhere ' and trust me I looked ' so she isn't dead. She had some of my weapons, dragon bones, and my fav bow!!! She used me:(
