The game is dead

I agree with you partly BUT, tell me other games that give you 170+ quality hours playtime.

Morrowind gave me close to 1000, oblivion 450 hours. Skyrim is short compared to them.

If anyone can invest even 50 hours here, it is not "dead".

If it is not Morrowind, then it's not Morrowind. But that's a far cry from saying it's dead. Dead should be reserved for games with game breaking features or bugs or complete wastes of time in general. If you can actually entertain yourself for that amount of time, to keep pushing on, to keep exploring, then it is not "dead".

That is, if you value your time. If you invest yourself for that long only to criticize the experience in the end.. well, that would more of a joke on you than anything. That you actually played something that you thought was dead for 150 hours.

Or, you could just say "I enjoyed this. It's over now. Time to move on, talk to someone, play another game, go back to school, etc.., etc.."

According to Steam, I have 108 hours on Skyrim...on one character.
" I have 104 hours on Dead Island [survival horror zombie type game, very fun]....on one character (there are 4 characters to chose).
" and so on down the line.

Edit: Come to think of it, that's an awful lot of time playing video games. I really should put my leisure time into pumping iron or reinventing the wheel.

Now perhaps I take my jolly time in these games, who knows, who cares.

Yet, I haven't played either game in about 3 weeks, namely because I am playing Dead Space 2; Steam had their xmas sale going on.
When I'm finished with that, chances are I'll go back to Skyrim.

It's not that I don't like it, far from it. I just needed a change of pace.
It's like eating steak every night, once in awhile you're going to want some chicken or fish

I'm looking forward to future patches and / or mods.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go and fire up the bbq.

I'm playing LOTRO at this moment until the CK comes out this month. I wish I hadn't played LOTRO before Skyrim because it kind of spoiled the game for me somewhat. Middle Earth is massive and you really need a horse to roam the world. There are some impressive level design in that game that beats Skyrim hands down. I never get bored in there. There are tons of quests in LOTRO of all types. I've about 120 quests that I haven't completed yet and I still haven't scratched the surface. Rivendell is a sight to be hold.

To the OP: try the lotro now that it's free.

Update: I started an almost pure archer on Expert without crosshair and subtitles to any conversations. I can only recommend it, it's a lot ore immersive than before! :D

Every game gets old at some point. Thankfully for Bethesda's games the modding community always breaths new life into it. They haven't been able to do anything up to this point but once they get their hands on the tools and start adding things to the game it will make it all interesting again. That's how it was for me with Oblivion and the Fallout games. I love to play around with mods and it helps keep these games interesting for months after I would normally be tired of them.

Also there will be DLC content to look forward to at some point. I would imagine the first one will be coming along pretty soon.

^ this. FO3 Wanderer Edition was just like playing a completely different game even after having completed all the quests in an earlier run. OP just sit and wait and have faith, the better is yet to come.

I'm at the 377 hour mark. I've played 5 characters.

The first character was an attempt at a battlemage. The kind of thing that would have worked in Oblivion. I quit him in his 30s and then moved on to a stealther. I used him to finish the main quest. After that I decided to try different builds and played a mage and a 2H warrior. For those two I cheated like mad for the fun of it. Finally, I decided to try out ultra immersion and started another 2H on expert difficulty with the UI almost entirely off. Of course, no cheating on him.

What I've found is that every time I do things differently, the game remains fun. There are so many quests "in the wild" that it's really a shame to spend time on the main ones. Of all 5 characters, I've only finished the main quest once. I'm still learning new things.

For example I didn't know until today what happened to Lisbet's husband in Markath. Also I didn't know that there's more to do in relation to Delphine and your followers before you rush off in the main quest. The downside is I didn't know until today that you could screw up the Riften thane quest and never get a housecarl there. I'll have to fix that with the console.

I ONLY GOT 170 HOURS OUT OF THIS GAME I BOUGHT OMG WTF

Are.. Are you serious? Most big games today have a 10-15 hour long main campaign at MOST (im looking at you Deus Ex) and little other things to do besides that.

Anyway, get mods.

Hmm.

Morrowinds been out the longest, so you have the most amount of hours. Makes sense, you randomly restart playing MW every now and then. I know I do it, and I'd happily claim to 1000 hours on Morrowind in total.

450 in Oblivion, been out the second longest, but for quite a long time regardless (5~ years)

Skyrim has been out for what, two months? And you've racked up 200 hours? I think that you're on track to eventually overtake Morrowind when the mods start rolling out.

A: It is a logical fallacy to compare the number of hours of entertainment provided by a MMORPG *or* a RTS w/ online multiplayer to the number of hours of entertainment provided by a single player CRPG. (regarding WoW, EVE, C&C). Heck in 2.5 years of everquest between '99 and '01, my character had something like 150 DAYS worth of hours played.

B: Sim City 4 is barely a 'game'... It's more of a toolkit with some game-like attributes

C: you spent 170 hours on GTA:SA? I almost got 100% completion and it didn't take anywhere near 170 hrs. Granted, after my first play-through I used the 100% completion guide to see what I may have missed, but...

Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Sandbox-esque, awesome story, incredible graphics, incredible soundtrack and very fun stealth mechanics. GOTY 2011 for me.

  • Minecraft
  • EVE Online
  • X3 Series
  • Terraria
  • GTA IV
  • Mount and Blade
  • Civilization V
  • Galactic Civilizations II
  • Morrowind
  • Oblivion
  • Borderlands
  • Fallout Series
  • Probably Deus Ex: Human Revolution
  • TW: Shogun 2
Nine of those games are also sandboxes that the developers "spent time hand-crafting epic and beautiful worlds".
Mine:
Rome total war
Warcraft 3 tft
WOW
Medieval 2 total war
Age of empires-the age of kings
Empire earth
Oblivion
GTA-all series
Sim city 4
cs 1.6

The fact you're on your 6th character doesn't seem to say much for roleplay or the depth of the game, nor does it say much about not getting boring. In fact it seems to support the thread if anything.
Still I have to ask why you have changed characters so often? I made more then that but thats mainly due to the bugs nobody gets and can't possibly exist on xbox since the game was made solely for that console, this point in Oblivion I was still messing round with my first character with hundreds of hours of play.

Wow man, u mad?

EDIT - your post is so full of fail that I can't even figure out where to start.

Firstly, you've named several multi player games. It's not even reasonable to compare a single player game to a multi player game in terms of the number of hours of enjoyment that can be had.

Secondly, war games are a totally different genre. I've probably got 100's of hours playing Civ IV and V single player because each map is different, each set of enemy civs is different. Again, an invalid comparison.

Finally, I used to work with ascgames (the publishers of GTA I and II) and I've played III, VC, SA, and IV (all expansions) and not one the series is good for 170 hours of actual storyline and side missions. They do have definite re-playability though, but it's not as if there's variability in the character development. They are fairly linear games except for the sandbox nature of the world.

Yea, this game is such a ripoff...lol

I am on my first character, 80 hours gone and I have not done the main quest, or any of the guild lines. Hell, I still haven't been to winter hold or riften lol. Mostly im just leveling my character before doing anything serious. I usually level my characters before doing important stuff. Makes no sense to me a novice should be immediatly the hero.
