The game is dead

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 9:39 am

A: You asked, I answered. You didn't limit it to single player games

B: Opinion

C: I was an angsty teen with the need to kill people - virtual or not - and I found the game to be perfect for that.

A: I didn't ask :) Someone else did... but ok :)

B: Ill give you that it's an opinion, but c'mon :)

C: Seek help :)

No I totally get it, I've got about 200 hrs in and I'm on my 3rd play through. 1st was a sword & board warrior, 2nd was a thief/assassin, and 3rd is a mage. I think after this, I will probably be done - but given the fact that most games these days provide somewhere between 10 and 60 hrs of entertainment, I think that my $59.99 was well spent.

I think about all of the games I've spent that kind of money on that simply didn't live up to the hype, and Skyrim isn't in that category.

Think Dungeon Siege 3, Dragon Age 2, Crysis 2, etc... I think I got my money's worth out of DA2 by spending more time on the forums screaming at the devs and fanbois than I did playing the actual game.

i quit after 40 hours. I got where the game is going and found it was not for me. Playing dragon age a third time instead.
Morrowind was the best in the series so far for me, and oblivion was an acquired taste that ultimately turned out to be a good game overall. But i don't like skyrim.

Why are there so many passive-aggressive people on these forums, and why do they all seem to jump to Skyrim's defense whenever a chance arises? Yes, I'm talking about you and your like.

Im sadly feeling the same. My problem is mostly that I can't find a playstyle that is satisfying to me. Warrior gets monotonous, thief/assassin is too easy and archery gets boring too, mage feels to overpowered with Illusion and Conjuration, and to underpowered with destruction.

But another problem is that I thought the game would offer a much wider variety of quests. I realized basically all you do in this game is going into dungeons and killing creatures or humans. Also, my hope for radiant quests was crushed because after my third character (still not done many factions and the MQ), none of the quests has changed one single bit except for those random "Kill Bandit Leader" or "Find Book X" quests.

A: I apologize.

B: Hey, it's a good game.

C: I did, and it helped a lot. :)

And touché. You're right. I think I've gotten used to the massiveness of Bethesda games to see their newest creation as streamlined and unimmersive as it is.

Thanks for the ad hominem attack.

I'm just telling it like I see it.

And for what it's worth, you'll know when I'm aggressive. Passive is not in my vocabulary.

It's hardly ad hominem when I'm stating a fact. Ad hominem would be more like me calling you stupid for example (which i'm not doing). Putting a smiley next to an offensive comment does not make it any less offensive, what it does is make the poster seem either autistic, or just a plain jerk.

edit: also, it isn't really necessary to put your signature after every comment you make (i'm taling about "--Randall")

i am the other way around. this is the first time i played an elder scrolls game and i love it. i bought dragon age ultimate edition just before i bought skyrim and i didnt like dragon age. i am thinking of trading it in and getting oblivion once i finish skyrim.

To each his own.

If you paid $60 for Skyrim it's cost you about 0.35 cents an hour.
Had you worked at Macdonald's for the same amount of time you could have earned about $1500.
Had you been the Chairman of Exxon for the same amount of time you would have made over $1 million.

Just because someone played a game for 170 hours doesn't mean those were quality hours. I'd probably be safe to bet that the first 6-12 hours were amazing and the remaining 160ish hours were spent trying to make the best with what they gave us before ultimately realising it'll take the CK and some TLC to put depth in the game.

Probably because there are so many pointless whine threads about the game...

This is almost sarcastic, see he called Skyrim "streamlined and unimmersive" which it is compared to past titles.

Man, I burn out on any game, I don't care how good it is. I take a break, play something else for awhile, or just do something else for awhile.

haha. well tastes are different. I prefer bioware style rpgs, i guess. I think with morrowind bethesda had an exceptionally lucky hand. Try it out if you can get past the graphics.

Hmmm... around 200 hours in, 120 of that on my Bosmer Archer, only questline completed fully is the Mages Guild, map not fully revealed, doing the thieves guild. I guess we play different. The exploration and wandering in this game, occasionally doing whatever quests I feel like, has been pure awesome for me. Relatively problem free too, I might add.

I never understand people that over-hype anything - it just sets you up for almost certain disappointment. As you have just proven to yourself. :( I play games for enjoyment. If I am not enjoying a game, I try another one or just go do something else.

Yeah, games that I've played more than Skyrim so-far...

Fallout 3
Mount and blade
Mount and blade warband (I'll seperate those two, because to count them as one just isn't fair)
Neverwinter nights
Neverwinter nights 2
Oblivion
Morrowind
Arcaneum
Stronghold
Stronghold 2
Grand Theft Auto San Andreas (This game is easily a 200+ hour game if you enjoy playing around, far outshines Nico Bellik in every way)
The Sims
The Sims 2
The Sims 3
The Sims Medieval
Minecraft
Lords of Magic (Look it up)

...
Honestly, lets all agree that saying there are few games you get enjoyment out of comparatively to Skyrim was a crappy argument to make.

So you've made several invalid assertions thus far in this thread.

#1) Sarcasm followed by an emoticon is something jerks and autistic people do.
#2) My comments were passive aggressive.
#3) The OP's concession that he actually received a reasonable level of entertainment given his purchase was sarcasm.

I'm done speaking to you. Go find another thread on which to provide your insight.

Best personal regards,
