The Imperial Legion vs. Caesar's Legion

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 9:49 am

An epic battle to the death.

Both are Roman-themed military organizations that favor melee weaponry. Both are ruled by an emporer who claims to be of divine lineage. Both are obsessed with expanding their borders through any means necessary. The Imperial Legion obviously has superior armor and bladed weapons at their command, while Caesar's Legion uses pieced-together armor collected from fallen foes. However, they're known to occasionally pull out guns. The Imperial Legion upholds a more or less stable, hands-off government, while Caesar's Legion is fascist and totalitarian (though, the Imperials could be argued to be the same).

So, if both sides were to meet on the field of battle, who would emerge victorious?

Caesar's Legion. POWERFIST GOOOOOOO
The Imperial Legion would give them a go if they had any mages employed in the Legion proper, but I saw no evidence of that.

Emendation: The Imperial Legion is likely to employ heavily-armored Battlemages in the conflict to counter the Caesar's firepower.

The Paetorian Guards themselves could defeat them with their insanely powerful Ballistic Fists.

Perhaps the Imperials could use their psychic powers (the ones they use to determine that you've stolen something, whether they saw it or not) to dodge most incoming blows.

But then the CL snipers, having dealt with the IL archers, would start sniping the psychic IL guards as they ducked CL punches.

CL would hand IL their ass on a plate, the only issue is how long it would take and how many casualties. The IL doesn't face Lanius and decimatio if they fail, you see.

If any of the spells included Summon Clanfear, Caesar would be screwed.

This is fair. It's essentially a debate as to whether or not magicka can counter the use of guns.

The Imperial Legion has employed mages in combat before, for offensive and defensive purposes.

IL, magic is the ultimate weapon. They're spells that create infernos that can destroy armies (Firestorm from Oblivion 75 damage for 10 seconds in 10 feet) IIRC. They can heal people back from nearly the grave with a few words. Trust me, it's no contest. IL could also just summon Xivali or Liches.

Let's assume that the Imperial Legion doesn't traffic with Daedra (though they could, if pressed).

Also keep in mind that a bullet travels much farther and faster than a spell.

This. I figure about 3 spells per battlemage before Caesar's snipers locate them, and then (number of mages) sniper shots later, we're back to "CL faces decimatio if they fail, IL is going down hard."

And it's probably more like 3 spells total before what's happening is recognized, and 1 spell per mage from that point on. Or even 1 gesture that looks like it could be a spell from any IL member not in the front lines.

Chameleon spells, control humaniod spells, shield spells, fear spells. this list goes on.

Except fearing what's behind you (Lanius) far more than what's in front of you. Absolutely nothing beats that.

Chameleon? Stealth-boy, nothing Caesar's troops haven't seen and dealt with before.

Invisibility? Useless the moment you cast another spell, or do much of anything, at which point it's dispelled. Great for the mage or two smart enough to see the writing on the wall and run like hell, and not good for much else.

When did Caesar's Legion deal with stealth boys? Nobody is actively using them in the territory Caesar is in, except for a few Nightkin.

You can no more prove they didn't deal with them than I can prove they did, but given that Stealth-Boys have been seen on both coasts, and in every location that has been visited by the Fallout series, I submit that the likelihood of them having encountered users of the technology is far higher than the likelihood that they haven't. Probably on par with the likelihood that they've encountered laser and plasma weapons, and we know about that one now don't we?

The mages would obviously stay in the back-lines and summon xivilai, which by the way can shoot fire balls, have massive swords, and can summon a clannfear. Also keep in mind there are tons of mages/battlemages in the IL, just look at the Arcane University, there are tons of mages there and don't forget those huge explosion spells they have, they could cast something like 50 fire damage in 10 ft and everyone would be roasted. And imagine them summoning something like a storm atronach, that would just scare CL [censored]less.

what if Caesar's Legion used sound waves to give them all amnesia? could work

OR the Trump card of them all just play some Hanna Montana and justin bieber at the same time and they will just kill them selfs. I know i would. No magic can stop that!

We know they've encountered laser and plasma weapons because we know people who use laser and plasma weapons. There is literally nobody to be found that uses stealthboys, except the nightkin and possibly a PC.

The NCR certainly don't use them. Tribals have never shown an inkling to use them, unless that was something I missed. And those are the groups of people that Caesar is fighting.

I don't have to prove they didn't. It's unreasonable to expect anyone to prove a negative. But if you can't prove the positive, you can't treat it as assumed.
