The Last Airbender: Legend of Korra

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 3:58 pm

But anyways Avatar and Thundercats 2011 are bringing back my love for American cartoons. After Disney and Pixar tried their hardest to destroy it.

After what? Pixar? Destroying...? Pixar is the best animation studio of all time. I'm appalled that you would group it with Disney. :ahhh:

What movie? There was no movie :stare:

One thing I want to know more about is the cycle. I mean Aang was the lasst airbender. So his reincarnation cycle seems broken, since they change all the time. What happens without air ? Is it just skipped or do they stop reincarnating. Well this is wate,r so earth and fire and we will have an answer.

Still dont like the modern setting...

I enjoyed the first series, and I hope this one is just as good.

Don't care much for the modern feel as some. Should have just kept some blimps, but no tall buildings and police like hats.

Looks cool. I like the Avatar series, just hated the fact that the movie ruined it. >_<

That movie shall never be spoken of and the horrors within it.

Definitely liked the art style, story, and smooth flow of the Avatar The Last Airbender series. One thing I liked seeing the trailer is how rapidly the nations advanced and are using steampunk style technology. Seems that steampunk style stuff is hard to do as of late and takes a group of extremely talented people to make it work.

Aang isn't the last airbender anymore. He now has children and grandchildren who are airbenders, so I guess the cycle goes on as normal.

My lil bro will be excited to hear about this. I like the show, I just never really watched it frequently enough to be able to follow the story. Still, it had great animation and the creatures were cool, like the big flying thing with six legs and the little lemur dude.

I find Pixar hardly worth mentioning.

I despise everything they have ever done. They insult the very art of animation.

One thing that always weirded me out about the show was how every single animal was some sort of horrible chimera, to the point where the characters are astonished when a normal bear shows up.

Like Momo, the Lemur-cat-bat-thing.

I don't like Pixar because I find their use of CGI to be..... insulting.

-The movies, visually, look terrible, because they have been using the EXACT same CGI since 1995.
-The "humans" if you could call them that are so disproportionate and malformed they look more like aliens then humans.
-They have no emotional content because you know at the end everything will ALWAYS work out in the best way it could.

CGI is not supposed to be used to make entire animated movies or shows, it is supposed to be used to enhance what people normally draw. Something America forgot.

Also Studio Ghibli > Pixar.

BUT ANYWAYS back on topic. I wonder how many episodes this new show is gonna be? I know they have 24 planned but they could make more.

People don't have to die to make a good story. Case in point: Avatar. Everybody lives, and everything turns out perfect.

Also, I've heard LoK was a miniseries, although I could be wrong about that. Where did you hear 24 episodes?

I never said anyone had to die.

Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle are great examples of how you can put some weird crap in films and it still be a family film.

For an American movie The Hunchback of Notre Dam is a great example, it was dark as hell. the Iron Giant when he went all god mode on everything is another good example.

Toph was badass. Metal bending FTW.

I have realized air bending is the only bending art without a specialized version.

-Earth benders have metal and sand bending
-Fire benders have Lava and Electricity bending
-Water benders have blood, plant, and healing bending.

Air doesn't have any special bending, though if i had to imagine one I would think it would be sound bending.

What about in Up when Carl's childhood hero and inspiration for his whole life turns out to be a murderer?

Edit: I'm going to guess that the reason Air hasn't had a specialization is because the race was wiped out.

but yeah, as I said before I would suspect air bending special to be sound bending.

Well, you're missing out. The film was actually criticized by some for being too depressing in some parts (which, you know, isn't actually a bad thing)

Funny that you should mention the Iron Giant, by the way, because Brad Bird, the director, has also directed quite a bit of Pixar movies. Nevermind, he only directed The Incredibles and Ratatouille, although of course he worked on the other movies.

I'll seem like a nerdgeek but I used to watch The Last Airbender (no matter how cheesy it got sometimes) with my son, I enjoyed it.

So... I'll probably watch this.

Either it'll skip the air guys when it's their turn, or it breaks. However, it seems Aang and Katara, if I remember some descriptions, did have a kid who is an air bender, and Korra's teacher. Maybe they began to try to bring it back...

I know the show was called: The Last Airbender.

But I can't help but feel some other Airbenders got away to live secretly in mountains that can not be crossed unless by flying. Or some decided on a nomadic lifestyle that they were used too and live in secret by traveling the byways of the 4 kingdoms(or just the earth knigdom) dressed up as regular travelers.

Just my crack pot theory. But yeah...probably not...

I too thought the special air power would be called thunder bending(not lightning).

I think the blood would be diluted eventuall.y

Apparently Aangs grandkid may be a romance for Korra, atleast thats what I think I saw... Anyone else find that creepy ?

Why did Azula have blue fire ?

She has had blue fire near the end episodes.

I think shes starts losing it and starts having her lightning technique become mingled with other emotions or something.

But mostly: OOOOHH BLUE FIRE!

Katara: The king is throwing a party at the palace tonight for his pet bear.
Aang: Don't you mean platypus bear?
Katara: No, it just says "bear."
Sokka: Certainly you mean his pet skunk bear?
Toph: Or his armadillo bear?
Aang: Gopher bear?
Katara: Just... "bear."
Toph: This place is weird.

Toph was badass. Metal bending FTW.

Well, the only airbenders we saw were Aang and his mentors. There may have been more different types, but with them all dead now...

Concerning Aang's descendant and Korra, I see what you mean. But it's kind of superficial, really. Korra and Aang are still their own persons, and neither of them are in any way blood relatives anyway.

If you look at some flames, like in say, a candle or cigarette lighter, you'll notice a flicker of blue within it; that part is usually where the fire is hottest. Some specialized lighters shoot a blue flame. As for why Azula can...because she's just that awesome a firebender. Seriously, [censored] turned herself into a jet in the Boiling Rock!
