The Last Airbender: Legend of Korra

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 10:21 am

I love the Avatar tv show, been watching it a lot recently, and I found this trailer on youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmsT63BgFPw

It's for a miniseries called The Legend of Korra, which takes place 70 years after the events in Avatar. Main characters are the Avatar of the Watertribe (Korra) and Aang's and Katara's son, an airbender who's helping Korra master air. Also, Naga, Korra's Polar Bear Dog.

What do you think of the trailer?

UPDATE - Release date is April 14th, 2012!

Also, second trailer - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hiyqfthq19g

looks beautiful, can't wait to watch it. Think they might have went a little overboard with people wearing suits...but still looks awesome, think the guy at the end sounds just like sokka

Looks cool. I like the Avatar series, just hated the fact that the movie ruined it. >_<

Notice the cars and (what appears to be) phone lines, as well. I think the new architecture looks really cool though.

Movie did not really ruin anything since it is pretty much unrelated to the animated series.

This show should be cool. I hope they tell us what happened after the first series. I really wanna know what happened with Azula besides the fact she got put into a mental institute. I am hoping she got better and with her mom back she could maybe mellow out a bit.

Whether or not it has awesome metal benders will determine whether or not I watch it.

There's a good chance he is, given how small the US VA market is and how Nick has a habit of choosing the same people for a good many of their shows.

It will. I heard about this a while back and read up on it. Toph's daughter, or granddaughter is in charge of the city's police force. They all know metal bending.

Well then, I'll give it a shot and hope Toph's granddaughter is as awesome as Toph herself

I really don't understand (I need a new name...) this sentiment. The setting is just a medium for the story. It's the characters and plot that count, why judge a series based on what time period it's in? I would readily watch a Firefly movie set in Ancient Greece and a gladitorial movie set in modern times, as long as the story is good.

I loved the series, but then it ended. I used to watch it all the time, never missed an episode. But then I missed one and the entire series got ruined for me. One week he's bald, the next few he has hair and I'm like wtf?!

I really want to see that show, but I'm wondering. How does 70 years into the future change the world so much? It was all chinatown-like it was really cool that way. Now it's like a metropolis in Pokemon. I can tell that "bending" has become a sport. And is it me, or does the arena look like that of the Pokemon one? xDD

Known about it for a really long time. It looks like it could be interesting. I really hope it was great as the previous show though. I miss it.

Edit: Looks like Sokka in that red suit! :P

Simply look at what 70 years did for the United States (1900 - 1970) - widespread use of cars, planes, widespread use of electricity, computers, woman's suffrage, worker's rights, man walking on the moon... and they didn't have bending powers. :P

Mmmmm...touche.

But if you see the show, they've got temples and dirt roads and wagons and giant forests and stuff. Then again it's not much further from USA a few decades ago. They also had cities of ice and such, I don't know, for the show it seems pretty far off for there to be a big metropolis so soon. When I watched the show I thought it was maybe year 1500 or something.

I figure Earth benders were pretty good at erecting buildings - just look at the sheer scale of the Earth Kingdom. The Fire Nation obviously had the ability to work with steel, considering their warships.

The Fire Nation were already producing steam-powered ships and other such machines on a massive scale (both in quantity and quality, ie huge fleets, and huge one-offs like the all-terrain train and the mega-drill). That means that even then they had a tremendous industrial capacity, probably on par with early Victorian Britain (do you know the kind of infrastructure you need to make even *one* ironclad ship? And they had entire navies!), only problem was that it was entirely focused on military applications. Without a huge war to svck up resources, labour, and infrastructure, and with the nations sharing their expertise, it's not that much of a stretch to see such a huge leap. After all, our world has had a similar (if less immediately visible) leap after WWII.

i agree with the change in tech, i mean they already had sophisticated steam engines and drill things. And 70 years is a long time. The only thing that i don't like is the suits...i hate them in real life lol. Also curious to see how mixed bending marriages work, and i really like the general theme of the...well i guess i won't type out the spoilers but it seems like fairly mature story

Awesome! There were moments when I actually cried during the first series. I hope there is reference to a lot of the characters from the Last Airbender in the new series.

Is it really Aang's ghost or just his spirit appearing to the new Avatar like all the previous ones did for him -- basically can Korra only see it or can they all see it?)
