The mystery of bugs that live in jars. Can we solve it.

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 1:57 pm

Perhaps I am just missing the sarcasm in your comment, but you do realize that video was purely a parody, right?

Like I said, I barely watched it. And there was no real "logic" to their theories. Somebody posted it in another thread, I wouldnt have known about it otherwise. But still, it was a lot of effort put into making it and the "formulas" they used.

Is that the Prima guide?

I wouldn't use a Prima guide to balance a wobbly table.
Meh, you're entitled to your opinion, but IMO, you're being a snob..

I'm more inclined to think that they're there for decorations and we as humans have to have a reason for why they're there because we hate when things don't have a reason.
Bingo.

I love how this thread ranges from serious conspiracy theories to lore and future expansion packs to blue-eyed marveling at the pretty bugs to complete, almost over-compensating, denial that they have anything to do with anything whatsoever

 < and this little guy reminds me of the Swiss colonel from Inglorious Basterds for some reason

As you are equally entitled to your opinion.

However, it has been my experience that Prima does a lousy job at fact checking; and for a strategy guide, that is a deal breaker. It's like they write the guides at some very early beta stage and rarely check back to see if their drivel still holds true.

You said it. After finding countless inexcusable errors in those I've bought in the past, I finally had it with Prima's guide for The Hunted. So. Beyond. Screwed. Up. No more for me. Or more accurately, no more by any of the authors responsible.

The Prima guide has not failed me yet. Though I don't use it too frequently, it's certainly cleared up a thing or two.

I understand. It's been my experience that generally the ones I've gotten have been pretty solid with good info, and only an occasional and rare error. So far, in the Skyrin guide i've found only one very minor error. (it gave the wrong symbols for one of those Nordic pillar puzzles), I see no reason for them to be wrong about the bugs in jars stuff.

Even more seriously, there's nothing that means anything. Everything is based on relationship, which is only relative to the person experiencing that relationship, and that's all there is. The world is what you make of it.

So true, and so well stated

i've always been more curious as to how the bugs stay alive in the jars without any food... or air holes...

I'm thinking there are an overabundance of 'air holes' in this game ... much like the bugs

\That's been my experience as well, with any SG's I get. They get stuff wrong certainly, but not enough to frustrate me, and I certainly get just the right amont of "correct" help that they are quite useful in helping me get the most out of my games. This goes for most publishers of SG's that I get, and that includes Prima.

I've looked at all the runes on the lids...they BARELY match old norse runic, which for some reason was used as a "definitive" translator for the theory that blew up. As far as the pentagram formed by major holds...you can make any shape by connecting groups of things, as long as you "want" to see the shape. And as for the "summoning" aspect, I don't recall anywhere in the elder scrolls lore where a pentagram was used for summoning. That whole "summoning" and pentagram idea was from people throwing Full Metal Alchemist into TES.

So, as a summary we have:

Pentagram/Summoning/Transmutation circle = meaningless, as it's applying Full Metal Alchemist aspects to the Elder Scrolls. FMA and TES have nothing in common, the idea of connecting any landmarks with any shape for the concept of summoning has no place in TES.

Translations of Bug Lid's runes using ancient norse runic = The symbols are VAGUELY similar, but not similar enough to be considered as accurate.

There is ZERO association between the Thalmor and the Bug Jars = This was thown in because for one..the thalmor are shady, hated, and controlling. However there hasn't been a solid connection made, just assumptions.

So it looks like some see the bugs in jars as just that, bugs in jars. Nice and pretty. Others see it as possible DLC. No one has mentioned that they were able to sell one of the jars. They are really cool. Who wants to sell it when it makes the old homestead look nice? Here is my conspiracy theory. Bethesda put them there so the forums will have something to talk about and make conjectures. Maybe they are taking note and will incorporate them in a DLC, maybe not. Has anyone sold one yet?
