They have to mean something. The writing under the lids, the reason why Bethesda will not talk about them? I want to know what they are for. They can't just be shelf decorations could they? Maybe but I really don't think so. It's a mystery and I like mystery. What else do we know about them? The connection between the 5 cities that forms a pentagon.

Any ideas?

The writing under the lids is an abbreviation of the location of another bug in a jar...I think.

Wow. I didn't even look that closely at it; found a butterfly in an alchemists shack in a jar..i just left it there. My nord is an intellectually incurious buffoon! And so am I! Cr*p!

I'm more inclined to think that they're there for decorations and we as humans have to have a reason for why they're there because we hate when things don't have a reason.

The answer is that there is no answer. They are just there to confuse every. The developers are laughing at every peice of speculation because they really have no meaning or purpose.

Well, according to some research some did, mapping out their locations and such, it forms a giant pentagram. Pentagrams are used for summoning. So it's a question of who's doing the summoning and what are they trying to summon. Obviously it's something huge, given the size of the pentagram.
