The Resistance

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 3:05 am

This has been going on for too long. The Resistance has spreading propoganda. They claim that they are fighting an oppressive force here on the Ark. Instead of peacfully trying to diffuse a situation, these renegades seek out gain through acts of terrorism.

These acts of violence hinder the Security's attempt to distribute water to all that inhabit the Ark. They claim to be gaining momentum in this war, but no one is getting anywhere. With the Resistance gaining members, the Security needs assistance.

The Resistance may have a lot of naive young men but they are in fact dangerous. That's why we need you. Enlist today and you'll combat terrorists, come on top as a hero, get access to extra rations, and spread justice. Together, the Security will crush any rebellion and restore the Ark to its former glory.

If something like Brink where to ever come around in real life. I would join the Security side, but the Resistance has a noble cause, but I prefer peace and equality. As ironic as that sounds.

Perhaps they are revolutionaries. Now the founders could be hording power in order to be in charge. Maybe they plan to turn the ark into a planet destroying space station.

Not Like the Death Star, I mean making it into the moon sized Death Star.

But you know stuff is fishy from the first promo with Moe, Larry, and Curly calling in to confirm what they were lookingfor and why it is glowing green.

Or maybe, the so called police are the real terrorists here. Overthrowing those in power to create their own military state, they impose martial law on the downtrodden civilians. We are forced to live in squalor, sheltered in shipping containers, scrounging for sustenance. No more! Your reign of terror will end by the hands of the righteous. WE ARE THE RESISTANCE!

i really cant decide... i mean i like the resistance and i'm leaning on that side, but i also like law and order (not the show). and that is ironic but i have a feeling the resistance are more action, (hence REBELS), and that with security is more procedure... so i like going all out BOOM, but i really cant decide... in my opinion im gonna try both and just pick which ever i work well with or like more.

Wow impassioned lies. Me thinks you didn't read the background of Brink. The Security forces who protect the engineers and scientists who not only built the Ark but keep it operational so everyone doesn't die or the Ark sink into the ocean. The so called downtrodded civilians came to the Ark and were allowed in: given food, shelter, jobs etc. They just don't think this are "FAIR" enough and are not rebelling.

Me thinks you have an incredibly biased opinion. Me thinks that both sides have a reason for the decisions, with the majority of the Security being people who were once refugees picking up the job that gives them more, further unbalancing the resources in the Ark. While the people who actually keep the Ark afloat and working, the Founders and scientists and engineers try and act as if they can rebuild and grow society from a tiny boat island. The refugees who wanted to leave formed the Resistance, as they were not allowed to leave the Ark to search for any land or remnants of society. Those left joined the Security, furthering the imbalance and misuse of resources. Meanwhile leaving the Founders and scientists to further squander the resources on keeping themselves alive, instead of expanding the Ark. Of course the Resistances goal is right to them, they are not going about it in the most reasonable way, but the only way they can in a society in which the actual workers are expected to barely survive. Violence is not the answer, but as both sides see it as the only answer, so it shall be. Since apparently you don't conserve resources by allowing people to leave.

I also love how you make it sound as if the Security was already there, and like the refugees did nothing to help the Ark sustain itself. Yeah, that's fair. Since the people that can reach a scientific marvel in the end days are obviously completely unskilled morons. Also, completely explains why there are Engineers on both side. And Medics. Since both of those take no education or training.

Also (from dictionary.com):

ter·ror·ism?
–noun
1. the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, esp. for political purposes.
2. the state of fear and submission produced by terrorism or terrorization.
3. a terroristic method of governing or of resisting a government.

I honestly think there are arguments for both sides being terrorists, depending on which side you take, you could maybe kinda sorta relate this to Israel (maybe security?) and Palestine (maybe resistance?) but thats just my take.

Just food for thought.

I take it like this.

Resistance: The mainland is gone so if they aren't on the Ark they die.

Security: The Ark is overcrowded because of the Resistance/refugees which will cause everyone to die due to resources being depleted.

So both are pretty much fighting for survival from different angles.

Oh no, they want to destroy Alderaan! Er....?hm.... Back to topic...

I think they are neither terrorists nor liberators. In other words: You can't say: Resistance are the good guys or stuff like that, but we all know that since it was planned to be so. What I think is that there are Resistance members that realy want to have a free and fair society and there are others who just joined the Resistance to 'kick some ass and to shoot some basterds'. It's the same with the Security: Some Cops are good, and just want to have less Chaos and probably could arange some sort of 'Peace' with the Resistance but others just think that 'the scum should be wiped from the Ark'. Since the devs created this whole story in this way, the player has the choice, either to be a terrorist or to be a liberator. Or maybe to be just a mercenary. Or , well, everything you want. You even could create a Security Officer and call him Seargent Vader and let him build a Death Star to destroy Alderaan. Oh, got to take my medicine.

Not to be mean but I kinda laugh at all these threads now... So many people think their side is the right way because of this and that. Well, there is no right side, there is no wrong side. It's all based on personal morals and opinions. I understand where both sides come from and their points of view on the situation.

I chose Resistance.

neither side is good or bad. it's how the game is made. You choose Freedom or Peace. IMO the Founders are the bad guys. They spread propaganda about the Resistance being terrorists, and send the Security on dangerous missions with false objectives (in the end of CC, security calls base to double check their orders, because whatever was in that box, was not what they were told about). So you see, Security is good because they fight for Peace, and Resistance is good because they fight Freedom, but the Founders are evil because they lie and plot. I think they know there are people and/or resources left outside the Ark, and don't want anybody to find them so they continue to be tyrants. So they are trying to keep everyone on the ark and build a super weapon to destroy the people/resources off the ark, so that nothing can threaten their power! $5 says that the three stooges and the rest of the security team sent to CC died either after being abandoned in CC, or in a crash on the way back to base, and the glowing green stuff mysteriously disappeared.

Technically, they're both. By terrorizing the Security Force, they're terrorists. But in their minds, and maybe in the civilian's minds, they're liberators.

Personally, I see them as just another group I'll be focusing my play through on, because I like their look.
