you can't appreciate a game full of mods and patches without understanding what it has fixed. your ruining an experience for yourself.

Need to play it first to know what to fix. I'll be getting it a month late (I'm in Japan) so hopefully some bugs will have been patched by then.

Not to say but all of the games Betehesda has released has always been better developed and enhanced when the modders have had their way with the game.

I'm not talking about modders adding werewolves, spears and answering to the callout of 'where's my levitation btich!?' I'm talking about general improvements that makes the game more balanced for a more fun and wholesome gameplay.

Ill wait to buy a second copy for my other console and for the moders to make modes for cosoles but i wont wait to play the game as soon as i can. :brokencomputer:

Doesn't take 6 months for the mods to be out. Just wait a week and people will have finished the game and start modding. Give it a month and there should be decent mods. Give it two months and there will be some good mods.

Ha your enthusiasm is awesome, but know "good mods" don't come out that quick :)

6 months sounds unlikely. First of all, I'm gonna wait and see how it plays out for others, if it's at all playable or completely riddled with game breaking bugs. My Oblivion, without all that many mods in it, still crashes a bit too often, sometimes managing to ruin savegames in the process.

Secondly, I'm pretty determined to wait for some hardcoe mods, seeing how BGS have chosen to completely ignore this aspect of the game. It was added to FONV with great success, and I still hate myself for even trying it the first time without activating hardcoe. For those loving hardcoe gameplay elements (without going too far about it), it would fit right in.

Slowed time combined with darker nights to force me to prefer daylight, is also high on the priority list. Not sure if I will wait for 1st person horse riding, or I'm just gonna ignore horseriding alltogether.

Yeah, it'll take time for the overhauls to come out. Having played Bethesda's previous games i expect one will be needed... :hehe:

I don't know. I only really needed overhauls in Oblivion, because of the level scaling. And it looks like they improved on that with Skyrim. ;)

Level scaling yes, but the challenge and overall balance hasn't improved one bit. Fallout 3 without FWE was a max-all-skills-and-SPECIAL-and-kill-everything-with-a-baseball-bat, and tried to fix that with enemies with excessive health and unresistable damage. New Vegas was better initially but Obsidian sure fixed that with the DLCs :hehe: Still it's better than Fallout 3 ever was.

But seeing how Fallout 3 was Bethesda's first try with XP and skillpoint system (AFAIK) and Skyrim is back in their familiar turf, maybe it'll be better?

I agree with the OP. 6 months will allow for patches and mods to be out, as well as price decreases in both the game and hardware capable of running it on max settings.

Many mods will not require you to have played vanilla first, especially after you see what the community says about them by the 6 month mark.

I love mods but i use them to enchance the game and increase replayability, not to make the game playable in the first place (with the expection of bug fixes and unoffical patches).
^ This~ Barely any huge games released now are flawless~ So theres no way im waiting half a year when ive been waiting years~ Patches/bugfixes/game enhancers will come when they come, and when they do il use them when making a new character~

Im going to appreciate the game for what it is and not what random other people make of it. I want The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, not The Modded Scrolls V: Heavily modified Skyrim.

If you don't play the game, how do you know what to mod? Yes you can mod small changes by yourself, all modders start small. Also the best and most powerful mods we see today need script extenders and other support. Those may not start appearing until many months later. Modders need to play skyrim too.

Sooo what happens if you kick the bucket while waiting for the mods. Do you really want to go to the pearly gates without having played Skyrim?

Um by knowing what you like. I kind of expect most people who are capable of purchasing the game to already have a fairly good idea of their likes and dislikes. You don't have to touch the glowing red hot iron every time to figure out that maybe it burns you and you don't really have to go for another touch test.

You've gotta play the game first to see what those 'imbalances' are. Yes.. it might be reported on the forums and the like, but you've gotta play the game first to really see if it's a problem for you.

It's probably because it's 2am here that I'm confused, how the hell do you mod a game that's not been released?

How can you know what you want for mods in the game if you haven't played it vanilla at least once? Or are you just jumping on the hate bandwagon?
The vanilla experience for me will come after 6 months.

I consider myself to be a self-disciplined guy so a further wait won't be much of a hustle for my egoic mind + I'm very busy for the next upcoming months too dwell to much into a computer game.

A person could interperet that eitherway, if that's your way of automatically viewing objective criticsm of material matter like putting things into a hate and non-hate wagon in this life, then go ahead :-D I see it as a form of love for the game and all the work bethesda have put into it, about that time I recognize a patched and DLC's or a more fuller and polished game experience.

One could argue what is and what is not a full gameplay experience, bottom line is that there is no such thing as an objective gameplay experience ever. They certianly proved this with shipping it with a more enhanced creation engine and radiant quest story. Yes there is such a thing as enjoying a game as a shipped product but that also ultimately comes down to what you think is fun and what you enjoy the most of all according to your own standards. I know this may seem a bit ignorant but with 20+ years of video and computer games in my backpack I know there are certain elements I would like to add into Skyrim before I venture further into the woods of questing so to say.

I know for certain that I want finisher moves out of the game. I know for certain I want to be able to ride horses in first-person. etc.
This is a man talking of knowing what he wants, and this is a little bit of where my perspective is at.

With both of the Fallout games released by Bethesda it took 2 months for any decent mods to get out there and an additonal 6 months for something of a mod that that could drastically enhance your gameplay experience.

I say thank you for those who have added their opinions in here and enjoyed reading most of the posts.

I plan on playing the game when it comes out so that I know what needs to be modded and what doesn't.
This is how mods work ;)

depends cause i played the vanilla Morrowind and thought it was mind boggling good for its time, but when i pick up Oblivion it just wasnt immersive enough for me and had to be modded. Other Beth's games that ive played have all be well executed, but that doesnt mean that the gameplay will be just as good.
