Things you saw in your childhood that you still haven't been

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 7:13 am

Not exactly childhood memories (Happened during my teenage years), but I've got a small list of odd things I experienced.

First, for the old, old house, back during my preteen and early teenage years, three freakish things occurred.

- The first happened while laying in bed at night and staring across the room into the darkness. I was just relaxing and listening to the sounds outside when something very dark shot across my vision from right to left, going towards the hallway that contained a closet, bathroom, and connected my room to my sister's. Since it was so subtle, it could have been an eye trick, or perhaps something obstructing the dim light coming from the window. It had never happened before, so I found it odd.

- The next thing that happened wasn't so subtle. Again, laying in bed and trying to relax, I began to hear something crawling around the left side of my bed. It sounded too heavy to be a rodent, and we didn't even have those anyway. If it was the cat, he would have jumped on the bed like he always did, and the dog never went into my room. Anyway, it continued to the bottom and eventually ended to the right of the bed. I didn't dare look to my right, because my imagination was busy coming up with monstrosities that I might see if I did. I never heard it again.

- A few months before we moved to our next house, I had a spare TV put in my room (Much to my delight) and was playing a game of Kingdom Hearts one night. I got up to go to the bathroom when my PS2 system shut off and my television went static. For one, my TV's AV channel was just a black screen. If my PS2 turned off, it would not give me static. And two, my TV then turned itself off completely. There was no power outage, since my electronic clock was still on. So there I was staring blankly into darkness freaking the [censored] out, then I get this nasty feeling that something was watching me. So...I got the hell out of there and slept in the living room.

In the next house (The one before my current place), I had two odd experiences.

- The first occurred late at night, about..one in the morning. I was on the computer chatting and foruming when I heard a very loud, droning noise come from my far left. Now, to my left was a corner leading to several bedrooms, a bathroom, and a set of stairs leading down to the lower level. Whatever the noise was sounded like it was going downstairs. It's hard to describe the sound, really...It was like..the sound that a dishwasher makes, only "buzzier". It faded away once it got about halfway down the stairs, and I never heard it again during our two years in the house.

- The second event was far creepier. Once again, at the computer, corner and stairs to the left. The bathroom was just around that corner and in the wall. The door was open and light was shining out over the landing of the stairs. As I was listening to music, I caught a glimpse of something. I turned my head and very briefly saw a man-shaped shadow going by the wall opposite the stairway landing towards the computer room. I assumed it was my dad.

He never showed up. This bothered me. After gathering the courage to get the hell up off the computer chair (Took me a good few minutes), I checked his room. Nothing. I went downstairs, only to find him sleeping in the rocking chair with the TV on down in the living room.

The biggest irony is, at my current house, a log cabin out in the middle of the woods, not only have I experienced absolutely nothing strange happening, but I don't get any odd feelings. I've never felt more at peace. My last couple houses, however...Strange, strange [censored]. It's actually rather disappointing, because I'm fascinated by supposed "paranormal" happenings and would like to experience more of them firsthand, seeing as I'm going to make a hobby out of investigating them in the near future.

Before I was born, my brother found our other brother's body.

The late one was four, my living one was nine. Needless to say, odd things happen around the house. Things that my late brother really liked have gone missing without us touching it, but my living brother sees things and has weird dreams that come true.

Mm'kay, this didn't happen to me in my childhood; it happened to me just this morning. But it still kinda-sorta counts, I guess?
I sure as hell can't explain it. Rationalize, maybe, but not explain.
I was brushing my teeth this morning right after I gut up, at about... oh, maybe 8:15. I was wandering aimlessly through my apartment as I often do, and accidentally bumped against my desk in the process.
My computer immediately flicked on. I do not mean 'booted up'; I mean 'it was on this entire time, the screen was just blank'.
This freaked me right the hell out, for a number of reasons.
One, I know I turned the computer off last night. I am one hundred percent certain about this. I watched it power down.
Two, I'm the only person at home at the moment; my roommate's due back on Sunday. I am the only one with an apartment key. I lock up at night, and whenever I leave the apartment.
Three, if the computer had just been sleeping rather than properly 'off', the temperature displays on top of my PC tower would have still been on. They were not.

Am I blogging in my sleep, or something? What is this I don't even. ?_?

In the woods behind my house, me and a few buddies have come across this peculiar formation we call the 'body dumping pit'. Its a large concrete box, about the size of a coffin, that has a steady stream of water running through it from a man made well. The water runs out the other side and forms a little stream, but the creepy thing is that it is unnaturally filled with a horrible thick algae slime. There is no way to see more then a few inches down into it, and it seems to be several feet deep. There is nothing else around it (save for a few pieces of wood) and we always joke that there's probably a body down in it. No one has any evidence that there isn't one though.

I was in 4th grade, and my school had enlisted the students as free, child slave labor selling See's candy. The best sellers won a prize. I was going door to door in the state of Montana (Lived there a few years.), and not having much luck, when I happened upon a house with a lot of property and a long driveway leading up to it. I started down the driveway, when I heard a gunshot that made me jump a mile in the air. Looking toward the house, I saw a man in a bright red trench-coat running toward me with two dogs along side him, and a rifle in his hand. I took off as fast as my little fourth grader legs could carry me and didn't stop until I was home.

I still can't explain why he would have reacted that way to a single little kid on his property, unless he had something to hide.

Aw, don't run from Vash the Stampede. He just thought you had doughnuts in there.

Actually, wait. No. On second thought, do. DO run from Vash the Stampede. I forgot how much collateral damage he causes. >.>

This is a really interesting thread. :)

There was one experience when I was about 6 or 7 years old and I was exploring the countryside around my granny's house with my cousin. We came across a cattle trough and we could see a brown slimy elephant standing there among the cattle. We ran away obviously. My cousin is Australian so he rarely comes to visit. He was home again recently and has no recollection of it, but I remember it vividly.

Often when I'm on the computer in the dead of night in a dark room I see human-like figures moving around the room at incredible speed for a split second.

When I was thirteen on holidays I was sure I saw the Thunderbird perched on a fence, but looking back on it now, it was probably a Golden Eagle, as they've been introduced to the particular area of Ireland I was visiting as part of a conservation programme and are much bigger than any other birds in the area.

I see those all the time. All the time.

By now, I expect to see at least a few of them when I go downstairs to get a glass of water.

How alcohol makes people happier. As far as I were concerned as a child, there was always violence, sorrow and crying when there was alcohol in the house.

I still hold that wonder. And still I see how it corrupts people and turns them into.. Degenerates, angry and primitive.

When I'm right on the edge of being awake and asleep, I often 'hallucinate' that someone is sitting on my bed. I feel their weight; I hear them breathe. Sometimes they talk to me; usually they don't. Occasionally they get up and walk around my room. They're never there when I turn the light on and I've never found anything out of place, so I have no reason to believe that people are, yanno, actually creeping into my room at night. But the experience is still incredibly vivid and realistic.
Last night, however, I happened to read about http://www.creepypasta.com/the-rake. Who apparently comes into your room at night, and sits on your bed. And occasionally prowls around your room. Watching.
I may never sleep again. :c

Also, when I was living by myself (and going to college), I had a poltergeist who lived in my studio apartment. He used to open and shut the door to my fridge late at night. And fiddle with the taps in the bathroom.
He was mostly harmless, though. (Hey, at least he didn't drink out of the carton.)

First part, again, creepy.
But I always wondered if, given the existence of all that fun stuff, someone could just put a soapy sponge in a dish and see if it gets washed...

because that would be a pretty sweet deal.
Spoiler
though we would have to be careful to avoid a Fantasia incident where they try and scour the entire earth in the same manner

I've got a few:

One night last summer, me and my friend were driving through my neighborhood at about 1am. Everything was deserted and the streetlights produced an eerie orange glow. As we turned onto a street, I saw a shadow about 100 meters away cross the street at a fairly fast speed. It was a human figure and passed directly under a streetlamp, but it was just moving too fast to be human. I couldn't speak for a few minutes just because I was so... astonished I guess. It left a very bad feeling in my stomach for the rest of the night.

This one didn't happen to me, but I have a friend who's mother died a few years ago. Last year, I found out that she received a call from her mother's old phone number, even though she owned her mother's old cell phone just as a memento. She even had taken the battery out. I dont know if she missed the call or chose not to answer it, but im thinking it was the latter. She was very distraught for a long time, and with good reason. I don't know what id do if I got a call from my deceased mother. :/

That's all for now. I've got a few others that i'll post when im not busy. :)
