Things You Would Want in Skyrim's Expansion

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 5:03 pm

Just brainstorming some ideas for an inevitable future expansion pack... Development takes a long time, gotta get these ideas coming early!

I'll start:
-Shouting Skill and Skill Tree: Self explanatory, more shouts and shout perks for the win!

-Better existing shouts: It's annoying that level 3 Fire shout has over 3x the cooldown but doesn't even do twice as much damage, for example.

-Game Balance Fixes: Reduce sneak attack damage with dagger, make Destruction perk "impact" not be able to stun lock every opponent in the game, etc.

Nice! When the Creation Kit comes out, I'll definitely be messing with it as well. At the very least, I'll be doing some number balancing so I can balance the game how I see fit. Stronger dragons, stronger shouts, caps on certain stats, etc.

I think the existing base game is enjoyable enough. What I'd like in an expansion is more content that better recognizes the choices I've made throughout my characters' life. If the expansion could even retroactively improve that sort of thing in the "vanila" game that'd be fantastic. I'd also like to encounter enemies that can really challenge the high level characters we've got.

Some of my ideas are jokes and some are not:

- Mounted fighting

- Vampire & Werewolf perk tree

- Dragons as mounts

- More complex fighting system

- Bring the attributes back

- Make your own unique armor with decals and whatnots

- 3x more spells and spell perk trees

- More civil jobs (working in the mill isn't enough)

- More different weapon types (spears and whatnots) and more unique looking ones

- Be able to build your own shack / house / cottage

- Be able to make campfire and setup tent

- Better interaction with the game world.

- Advanced UI

- Horse armor

- Get your own horse from the wilds and name her and be able to train/level up her. (Stamina, Health, Speed, Damage) Hell, add the perk tree for it too while your at it

- Shape your characters pre-story (no need to have million options, but something to choose from would be great)

- hardcoe mode: You NEED to eat, sleep to survive. Being naked in the snow mountains makes you freeze to death, same applies for swimming in ocean that has icecubes in it, campfires might save you from death (ya gotta keep yourself warm in the blizzard)

- Better and longer guild quests (heck, fix the main quests while your at it)

- Be able to shapeshift into a dragon

- Aaaannndd...oh wait, 30 min to go untill my shift ends, that's it for now ! :D

ALL of these would be more suited to a set of mods than a fully fledged DLC.

Yeah I saw one mod that did something like this that was interesting... I figure with the Creation Kit probably a week or two away though, I'll just make my own. I'm pretty picky; I'll probably focus more on harder scaling based on player level as opposed to flat multipliers.

- Vampire & Werewolf perk tree

This is interesting. Right now, I feel like both transformations are pretty underwhelming (albeit fun). With the perks, they could actually be viable and useful.

Perhaps a part of Hammerfell or some distant Isle you have to travel to by ship. There should be pirates and dragon attacks on the ship along the way (manual travel by ship).

In my dreams (will never happen T_T):

- Compiler optimization near the efficency of skyboost or similar.

- Factions dynamic conquest wars:
Imperials, Elves, Storm (and from blackreach: Folmor, new Dwarf) fighting to conquer Skyrim.. only active when you end dragons and imperial/storm quests line.

- Dynamic levelled factions war incounters that are based not only on your level but on what you are really capable to do as offence/defence and the type of the encounter (if you fight in a war vs. 10 soldiers they are not bosses, but 10 soldiers with 2 healers can be some nasty times.. otherwise you fight vs. 1 commander he's levelled as a boss near your spec.). So no god mode for this type of encounters.

- make my wife/companion mount with me on my horse :)

The sad reality:

- some more quest you will end in 4 hours and that i need to play nvde to have some challenge.

The more sad one:

I will buy it, because i love this game.

Optional super boss encounters.
I'm talking ridiculous hitpoint beasts, that have frustratingly unfair super abilities and very small window of opportunity weaknesses.
Each one can have a special item that gives the player something fun to play with.
Water walking boots, a mask that lets you mimic an enemy, super jump/feather fall boots, whatever. Just party hardy knick knacks.

I'm married to a shop keeper yet I still have to spend hours (realtime not gametime) selling & sorting loot & items. Why can't my wife sell it for me. Better still We could employ a follower to travel Skyrim selling our wares. Just have a designated merchant chest in each home or hold capital where we could leave stuff & as the follower travels around, he collects the loot & leaves the profit. This could also lead to radiant quests where the merchant follower gets robbed & you have to go to a random location to retrive your stuff.
Also how about categorising chests & barrels etc.. in the same way as the personal inventory. At the moment I have potions in 1 barrel, ingreedients in another, weapons in yet another & so on. Selling & organising takes up so much time when I just want to play. Surely this can be streamlined somewhat.
I would also like to see the the option to orientate picked up items with the d pad so they can be placed propperly on tables, shelves etc.. Following on from that. How about the option to buy extra manequins (that work), plaques, weapon racks & display cases so we can turn a whole house into 1 big armory.
What might be nice is to add a randomly generated undiscovered dungeon, cave or fort (size & loot quality dependant on level) somewhere different for everyone which does not appear on the map or compass untill it's discovered & named by the player.
As for bugs:
Buying all decorations for the Windhelm house before opting to clean up the butchers mess removes the option & I am left with bones & blood all over my alchemy lab.
If a dragon is slain on a slope & slides down the hill/mountain, it does not disintergrate & it's soul is not released. This may be the cause of a dragon bounty for balgruf not appearing.
I cannot sell both Falmer eyes to Delvin. (Not sure if this is a bug or intetional)

Not how modding works. If you want it you make it.

That said, at least four of your ideas are currently being discussed in the mod forums. (including my favorite, horse armor)

If you look at my sig you'll see a WIP, this stands for work in progress. This mod will take up all my time and resources for months if not years. So chances of me working on a bunch of little things like that are slim... No offense.
On Topic-
I want to visit Blackmarsh at some point... I don't care how. Be it mod or DLC

Deep within a huge Tomb... The tomb being the DLC ancient dwemer ruin a sma;ll settle ment within, perhaps vampires? similar to the settlement you encounter during the hunt for the Razor in OB.

At the end of the Tomb a Huge Beast, Legendary Beast (Not Dragon).

I also think on a non-related topic a cool idea maybe to small for a DLC but perhaps could be factored into one. A courier service where you can write a letter on a roll of paper or in a blank book. That you can send to a friend who is also playing Skyrim. How cool would it be to recieve a letter while you are on your daily walk to the tavern explaining that

"Dear Arag, You total [censored]. yours oO Eagle LL."

HeHe ! i like that idea

Some more animals and things like beavers, boars, snakes, bull frogs. Not for them to attack you just to make the land seem more alive. Sometimes it can seem a little scarce of wildlife even though I do know that there is quite a lot living in skyrim. red dead redemption actually feels more alive than skyrim.
And also more horses with people riding them on the roads.and lets see some of those broken carts at the side of the road actually working and getting pulled along by a horse.

Here are my wishlist just two things i think of and both are from fallout.
Remember in fallout 3 and new vegas you could change your hairstyle/beard/coulor? I wish it was like that in skyrim,Pc players can just type in showracemenu, but we console players cant do that.So thats one thing i wish for, being able to change your hair, beard, colour, warpaints. Please.its not a big thing
And the other thing i wish for is the hardcoe mode from new vegas,i bet alot of fans wish for that in skyrim, and its amazing for role play,I love that. Why cant a DLC allow us to toggle on/off hardcoe mode just in options when ever we want?
I wish for more things but thats just something i have been thinking off, some things from fallout i wish were in skyrim.
I<3 skyrim 4eva

I would personally like to see.

1. Horse Armor
2. A Vampire Guild/Werewolf guild
3. Goldbrand
4. New harder and more challenging enemies like a legendary Mud Crab
5. New VA's for the DLC that weren't in the main game like Baker.
6. More Dwemer Ruins
7. More Khajitt, and Argonians
8. A good story for the expansion
9. Mudcrab Armor
10. The Return of Mithril Armor and Dragonbone type Weapons.

Just brainstorming some ideas for an inevitable future expansion pack... Development takes a long time, gotta get these ideas coming early!

-Game Balance Fixes: Reduce sneak attack damage with dagger, make Destruction perk "impact" not be able to stun lock every opponent in the game, etc.
Those aren't game balance issues because you can choose to go down that route.
