This Game is Terrible.

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 7:48 pm

I really loved Fallout 3 and was looking forward to Fallout :New Vegas.
What an utter disappointment, when I eventually managed to get it to load and then extending the time I could play the game before CTD , I discovered that there is very little new in New Vegas. The graphics are absolutely rubbish by todays standards, I have a high end gaming PC but it made no difference. Far to many bugs showed in the game, Your guns seem to be infinitely inferior to any enemies. I had power Armour on, did not make the slightest of difference. I am ashamed to say it and it has happened only once or twice in my long gaming experience, but I am not going to finish this game and certainly not be playing it again. What makes it worse is that I bought it through steam so cannot sell it on.

Ahh, I see that you do not like a Fallout Game made by the people who made the Franchise in the beggining.

Couple of arguements to your points.

Graphics?- The game is built using the same engine and many of the same resources, Hence why it was ready within two years. And I think the graphics are fine. Not the greatest, but reasonable. And graphics don't make the game.

Weapons useless?- Sounds like you're using a low level weapon against an opponent with a higher level of damage resistance than your weapon is capable of inflicting. Or you're using a weapon that has worn out.

Power Armor? - Not really sure what your saying here? Sounds like your saying that your expected wearing power armour would iimprove weapon use?

That's what we need! A review of a game where the reviewer hasn't even played it through yet.

Mr Fraggle - if you want us to read your review\ post then you've got to at least finish the game.

Glad to see you gave it a fair shake. Haven't even touched power armor and seem to be doing well against enemies with my starter Varmint Rifle (plus it's 3 mods), but I'm on the 360 and have minimal problems. Not real sure why you think the graphics are so bad, when they're the same as FO3 which you seemed to like. Sure they're some better looking games out there, but this one seems to strike a better balance of graphics and gameplay IMO. Sorry about the Steam experience...I only buy old game on Steam for that reason.

How can you like Fallout 3 and complain about New Vegas being nothing new?

Its been two years on a sadly outdated engine.

Just started two days ago - and up to now, I must say I love it!

Reminds me more of the good old FO1+2 than Fallout 3 ever did (don't get me wrong - I enjoyed FO3 as well, but NV is - up to now - for me just the better "Fallout-Game").

The graphics?
You were not aware that they'd use the same engine and that there would be no graphics overhaul?
Well, this was discussed and pointed out in every preview/review/discussion pre-release...

The bugs?
That's the reason why I waitied until last week, before I purchased it. Had heard about the latest patch and now I've decided to give it a try - so far, I've had 1 CTD in roughly 10 hours of gameplay.
That's comparable to FO3 - I hope it won't increase with increasing in-game time (which would also be comparable to FO3).
Let's see....
But if you got up to the point where you run around with Power Armour, it means you've come quite far, right?

Guns infinitely inferior?
Maybe I can't say too much, as I'm still Level 6 - but I noticed quite some differences while using 9mm pistols, single shotguns or the cowboy repeater (since I got this one and enough ammo, it made a HUGE difference)....

Sokol, you are gonna have a hard time trading that Cowboy Repeater for anything else. Way too much fun and there's some mods that make it fire faster. It's my backup weapon when I want to charge in guns a-blazing rather than snipe enemies from afar with the Varmint Rifle. It's a great game that keeps getting better, but even at level 6 you probably have a good taste for what you can do.

People know the game used the same engine (and therefore graphics) as Fallout 3, I bet you did. Yet they complain about them anyway. What did you expect when you bought it?

You doubtless had trouble in the early levels because the monsters were just too tough for your level. It's supposed to be like that. I bet you just ran right into the casadores at the north of town when you level five and got upset because they killed you. That's deliberate. It's not like Oblivion where you never had to worry about facing something you couldn't deal with. It's like the old school games before Oblivion style scaling where you actually had to be careful what you took on, because it could kill you. If you understand that it might make the game less frustrating for you.

The bugs, fair enough but did you patch it?

The game is fun but I do agree the CTD's are extremely annoying. However it was the same with Fallout 3.

Funny thing is, OP is complaining about Power Armor not being effective when it is actually even more effective in New Vegas than it was in Fallout 3.

In Fallout 3, I really couldn't tell the difference between wearing T-51b Power Armor and some Leather Armor. It all felt the same to me. It maybe just took me an extra second to die or something.

In New Vegas, it feels like I'm almost a walking tank in Power Armor, which is how it should be.

To me, with this line you lost credibility. You are doing it very wrong if you think this. And what makes it worse is that you got to a point in the game to wear power armor and you still think guns are inferior.

Are we being trolled?

Maybe you should stop annoying deathclaws with BB pellets! :D

Or at least pick up the Unique BB Gun.

Hunting Deathclaws with a BB can be quite entertaining.

I'd be willing to put money that he grabbed NCR power armor. Beyond that, I'm glad to see the people uniting to defend a good game, rather than it becoming a bashfest.

dear mister fraggle;

I am glad you don't like the game. maybe if you read the developers releases before buying this horrible piece of junk you could have saved yourself some money and saved me the pleasure of yet another I HATE THIS GAME thread.

Oh look it's this thread again, i think everyone has summed up the problem.

1. Graphics are the same
2. Gameplay in NV is better
3. Balance is better in NV
4. NV has a better story.

I would look into what guns are using, what perks you are or could be using and what ammo you are using against specific enemies.

Good for you?

Since when does a games fun factor relate directly to graphics? That's absurd. New Vegas looks fine anyway, I wouldn't want it to look any different.

Maybe if you're guns seem so inferior you're fighting the wrong opponents or using the wrong weapons against them. I mean you can't run right out and try to fight Deathclaws no matter what gun you have.

As for bugs, I can't really say. I'm playing on the 360, 16 hours in and haven't had a single problem yet, so I'm more than happy with it.

I don't share the graphics complaint because on my machine they let me see what's going on and that's, really, all that they're supposed to do.

I can't say very much about the guns, either, since my char is more of a melee type, but so far she's done okay with razors, lead pipes, and a machete. Also, she's not very advanced and hasn't found any power armor yet, but I didn't even like the look of those in the original two Fallouts.

I'm sorry you're not liking the game, but I am and not every game pleases every person.

In all honesty I too hated this game when I 1st loaded it up

1. Graphics are less than FO3 IMO (new low-poly models, no constant grey/green shader, weird running animation)
2. Gameplay is better, I like the direction they went with some things
3. Balance is better, even if it makes the game frustrating at low levels
4. Story doesn't capture my imagination as much as FO3

5. Shear volume of voice acting/dialogue in FONV is amazing (big kudo's here)
6. Additional factions are a little overwelming, basically forces you to be a neutral petty thief
7. Reputation system doesn't seem to work too well

I'd give it more time. Trust me. I beat up this game pretty harshly when I started.

There should be two sticky threads. One entitled: "I don't like this game - post here" and one entitled: "I love this game - post here". Then the rest of us could discuss important things like epileptic strippers, how wimpy the Great Khans are and which would you rather eat: 200 year old Salsbury Steak, or a fresh Boatfly Slider.

Really now? So if this game were on CryEngine3 or IdTech5 it wouldn't have any higher appeal for you? Come on. The graphics could have been better and should have been. I appreciate what Obsidian did with other aspects of the game but damn! Handing me a grey stick with a hexnut glued on as a sight and calling it a 'varmint rifle' was a bit distracting.

This +1000

Also, I would rather eat the 200yr old Salisbury Steak, along with Cram (which I also believe is 200yrs old). BTW...can you make a fried Cram sandwich?

As for the OP, you lost all credibility when you said "Your guns seem to be infinitely inferior to any enemies. I had power Armour on, did not make the slightest of difference." Absolute crap. In later levels, it's possible for your guns to become so ridiculously overpowered when compared to your enemies, that it's rarely a 'firefight' and more of a massacre. I'm assuming you're either wielding a weak weapon, a weapon you don't have the strength to use, or a low guns skill. All of which are completely fixable user problems.
