Todd Talks DLC With Kotaku

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 7:44 am

Sounds like they'll be supporting this for a long time. Longer then any of their previous titles.
I'll believe it when i see it.

Eh, this is more or less the same thing we heard from Todd last time he spoke about dlc.

The only intriguing bits are the free dlc talk and the part about the Sizzle Reel mods.
But I really hope they add those flails, spears, mounted combat and werebears/vampire lords we saw.
They're really interesting features and I hope to be able to play with them come downloading time.

This should satiate everyones appetite for awhile.

Now we know, it's gunna be big, and take awhile, but we'll get free bits in between release.

Thanks Bethesda!! Can't wait to see what makes it into the game!

lol @ people who are still upset, go play a different game already.

True, sorry but I'm a little sceptical of PS3 getting anything. Xbox and PC probably but not PS3 or not at least for 30 days after Xbox.
I believe 360 only gets priority on paid DLC, meaning anything that's free will either come out for all 3 platforms at once, or just for PC. (Like the HR Texture pack) Then the actual expansions will be for 360, and other 2 30 days later.

While they may do PC specific DLC due to enormous differences in so many areas between PC and consoles, they will NEVER release something exclusively for 360 or Ps3. It's both or neither.

Am I reading this right, this one paragraph here.

"So I think we had more of a plan and thought process of 'We want to make the game better after it's out.' We don't know what that means yet. People will tell us. But maybe we want to rebalance it. Maybe we want to add some features and patch them in, whereas in previous games, like Oblivion or Fallout 3, our thinking was just to patch it, fix the big problems. Our bandwidth at that time was that we needed to work on Skyrim. But now, with the game's popularity, we really want to do all that stuff."

They might actually rebalance the game?Bethesda is actually going to patch the balance issues?Or am I being too optimistic?

They could release Lokir's Tomb as a small free dungeon DLC when they finish the Creation Kit tutorial videos.

Man, he should be in politics:

We're going to go big, but we don't know how...

We going to put in lots of extra content, but we don't know what it is yet....

We're going to release big expansions, and little free additions...but we haven't got any yet...

We going to release something every month, but we haven't yet...(released something every month, yet).

We have big plans, but the players will have to tell us what they are...

Seriously, I'm a wordsmith for a large government department, and I deal with bs on a daily basis...and after reading that I smell a cow paddock.

Still, at least they are saying something.

You are being way too optimistic and naive. Gstaff already tried to sell us those lines of "balance fix" a while back.

After the holidays, we’ll continue to release regular updates for the game — through full title updates, as well as incremental “gameplay updates” to fix whatever issues come up along with rebalancing portions of the game for difficulty or exploits. We plan on having a lot of these, not just a few. Overall, you should expect updates to be hitting the PC and Steam earlier and more often, as that’s a process we control. Console updates will follow, as they must be certified and processed by those manufacturers.

I think that was said shortly before 1.2's release... so did you see ANY balance changes in 1.3 and 1.4? No. The interview is abstract promotion talk that's way too ambiguous to mean anything.

Which I've never understood, why does Bethesda never even try to fix the balance issues in their games?Oblivion was the same way, that 100% chameleon that you could get with enchanted gear, it would be extremely easy to fix something like that. You could either place a cap on how much the chameleon can stack (to 90% or something similar) or altogether remove the chameleon enchanting option. And yet they waited until the next game to remove chameleon and nerf invisibility. And they'll probably wait until the next TES game to fix Skyrim's balance problems, and that game will have it's own balance issues. It's like an endless cycle of balance problems.

From Oblivion it was, you could use the invisibility spell to escape from almost any combat situation, and to sneak past any enemy without having trained your sneak skill at all. It's not like that in Skyrim, an enemy will probably hear you if you're not good at sneaking and using invisibility in the middle of combat doesn't seem to do anything except waste magicka.

I hate to sound cynical but I'll believe it when I see it. In terms of small, free in between patches I doubt we'll see anything more than bug fixing patches. I mean I'd love it if they released packs of optional rebalancing patches (whatever that might be), new features and monster packs and weapon and armour packs as well as expansions, personally I can't get enough Skyrim. But I'm not getting my hopes up. Maybe one DLC in about six months from now along the lines of Knights of the Nine, and maybe an expansion a year later but nowhere near as big as Shivering Isles and that will be it.

frequency itself is gonna to be differnt then previous Tes games. Im saying this as a whole that Dlc is gonna to Be DIFFFERNT.

And the quote is from atleast march ill find it for you  While i look for it i would like to hear other peoples opinion on this "Debate".

you're both idiots for arguing over this for so long lol. Who's politically correct, who has the facts, get over it.

Yes the DLC will be different from previous games, because they've already stated they will be focusing more on it as an expansion. If you have minimal reading and comprehension skills, you can take that as fact from reading this interview, and watching the making of video that came out just before 11-11-11.

If you're saying it's not going to be different at all, you're just in denial, because it's pretty clear, their intent is to go about the whole process differently than they have in the past, hopefully making the DLC more an expansion of the game and the world itself, rather than just random add ons/horse armor.

will it be ground breakingly different? probably not, will there be new skills? Probably not...but it will definitely not be the typical $15 add-ons we've seen for so many years.

btw
am I the only one who thinks the removal of the skills was a good thing? I mean seriously, my character having the ability to jump, from a standing position, onto a 10 foot high roof is not my idea of 'cool' lol it was cheesy and kind of cheap to be honest. I love the simplified version of skills in Skyrim, dont touch them!

give me home building, more weapons, armor, items, quest's. and maybe some more 'likeable' NPC's and more consequences to my actions/conversations, please an thanks!!!

i used invisibility last night clearing out a fort full of silver blood mercs...3 of them hacking at me @ once while Lydia lay on the ground from being one hit (dont have wabbajak yet) As soon as I turned invisible my enemies stopped attacking and I was able to slip away unnoticed. Sneaks only at a 33. and Im a level 37.

I have to agree, I'd rather Beth fix all the remaining big bug issues 1st then worry about DLC, although that doesn't mean I wouldn't want them working on DLC. They should just not release it until the major issues are gone.

And what point, exactly, did they say they were not going to fix those issues first?

It sounded more like "The DLC we have planned is more expansion-like than what we previously released with FO:3" which mostly comprised of maybe one or two dungeons worth of content.

They even took it as far to utter "rebalance" which could honestly include a myriad of your game-breaking bug fixes, none of which I've encountered since November.

I've criticized BGS with the utmost hostility for their direction with Skyrim, as well as previous titles, but to overlook the notion of this fragment of what is going on behind-the-scenes as anything other than good news is, frankly, ridiculous.

Has anything bad in an Obsidian game ever been their fault?I believe the problems in KOTOR 2 was Lucasarts fault.Who got the blame for NWN 2 bugs?

I actually like most of Obsidians games. It's the really devoted fans of Obsidian that get kind of tiring.

KOTOR 2 was LucasArt's fault.
