Ulfric Stormcloak is a two-faced liar.

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 8:20 pm

So I finally forced myself to make a Stormcloak supporter character.

When you first go to see Ulfric he makes this emotional speech about why he is fighting.

His speech is almost convincing, almost.

So I had this character join the Stormcloaks and go through the civil war questline.

At the end of the questline when Ulfric takes Solitude, he shows his true colors.

Through the things that he says behind the scenes to the Dragonsborn and Galmor, you can see that he didn't start the war for his people or for what they wanted, but he started the war all for himself.

I'm now fully convinced that the Imperials are the right side to go with.
I even noticed that the Imperials treat you much better than the Stormcloaks.

Ulfric shows his true colors?

ULFRIC?

What the hell did Tulius do exactly?

Just sit there and watch Rikke die, and then beg for his damned life.

Screw Tulius, and screw the empire he so obviously represents.

Currently ignoring civil war questline with my current char, but yeah, even I've gotten a bad vibe from him. Smells like B/S to me...

but i haven't gone through the quest obviously, so my opinion may change once I do.

Personally, when I did it, my opinion changed in favor of the Stormcloaks. But the OP is right in that what Ulfric tells the public isn't always what he says in private. But that doesn't make his cause any less just or the Empire any better. Ulfric wants power. He wants to be high king. This in itself isn't a horrible sin. It's what you do with the power that shows what kind of person you are, and I'm willing to give him a chance. The Empire has blown theirs.

Hmm... now I want to start looking into the questline. I really don't know anything about Ulfric or the general. But I'll save that for the next playthrough!

Ulfric has a ton of backstory and is extremely interesting, whether you love him or hate him. The main reason I join the Stormcloaks is I get to listen to his conversations with Galmar and see his story unfold, which is really fascinating IMO. You don't get a lot about General Tullius, but there's enough backstory behind Ulfric to make a motion picture out of. And I'm not saying the Stormcloak line puts him in a great light, either. You learn good things about him and bad. But it is way more fun than the Imperial line in my opinion, which left me disappointed.

Tulius had surrendered because he knew that he had lost the war.

Rikke was being stubborn and wanted to die a Nord's death.

Should Tulius have fought to the death also?

Yes, I think he should have.

But what about Ulfric?

Ulfric wants the Dragonborn to kill him so he can have "Songs" sung about him.

He is only interested in himself, not his people.

That may very well be, but Tulius' actions absolutely disgusted me as a man. It was an anology, for me, to the empire agreeing to the WGC.

I despise that coward and hope he spends eternity as a footrest to Mehrune.

Think what you want about Ulfric, but at least he goes out like a man.

You misunderstand. He wants the Dragonborn to kill him because he doesn't want the Empire he sees as betraying everything he stood for to have the honor and glory of executing him. Truth be told, the Dragonborn did more for the Empire in Skyrim than they ever would've done otherwise. As a result, the person who did it deserves the honor to the general who didn't do anything.

I hated Ulfric up until that point of the quest. I was definitely pro-Empire until the time came to cut off his head. Since it was his final wish, I did it.

Both heads of the story are complicated characters.

* Ulfric Stormcloak is ALL about being controversial.

* Tullius' surrender shows he's a much worse person in loss than victory.

haha this, and anyway i support the storm cloaks, they should join up with the remainder of the empire and hammerfall and beat the piss out of the thalmor, besides i don't want a chior boy leading a bloody rebellion/war, i want a gritty person who will do what it takes

The one thing I dislike about this game as compared with the earlier TES games is that BOTH of the leaders of the opposing factions are - well.... not people to tie your wagon to.

I love the open world.... but I won't ever do the MQ or the civil war again.

Ulfric is WAY better then Tullius, Stormcloaks are better the Imperials, The Stormcloaks want to keep their traditions alive, while the Empire just wants to control EVERYTHING, They are power hungry and are fighting for a false cause. You are also respected by the Stormcloaks after the War, You are just another Pawn in the game of life to the Imperials after they have used you to get what they want. (Yes, I have played both sides.)
