Unofficial "Is [insert game here] any good?"

Some members on the forums here say good things about Hellgate London. Is it really that great? What's so fun about it?

I'm pretty sure it went out of business

How's Bioshock 2?

I'm just about at the end and I'd say it's better than the first. The atmosphere was still there for me, nothing felt stale despite playing the first game 3 times. I don't think the story is as good as the first, but they tell it better. The gameplay/combat is a nice improvement, being able to use plasmids and firearms at the same time makes for all kinds of fun, though there is definitely a lot more combat than the first. Looks like I'll have the game wrapped up in under 25 hours, at 19 right now with a little bit left.

Multiplayer is surprisingly fun as well, when you can manage to get into a game without lag (playing on PC). I've only played the deathmatch mode, can't comment on the rest, but capture the flag (Little Sister) looks pretty fun.

I love the reference to the movie in the sub-title.

Is The Beatles rockband any good? I mean I own all 14 albums of The Beatles and I'm debating with myself as whether to buy it or not.

If you like that type of game at all, then you will love it. The visuals are incredible, and it's pretty damn fun with a group of friends.

Yes.

It includes most of their most popular music already, and if by some chance it doesn't contain your chosen song, they have them as downloadable content.

Gameplay is just generic Rockband/Guitar Hero gameplay, which is fun.

So... yes, it is quite good. :D

There are still plenty of songs that aren't in there, even with DLC (I'm Only Sleeping... I was really hoping they'd release Revolver).

How's Bioshock 2?

Its very good.
If you enjoyed the first, you will enjoy this one.
I was able to finish it in two days but theres still much to do in terms of multiplayer and harder difficulties.

That being said, the first one looked better visually, as this one contained a lot of posterized edges, faking little bits of detail.
The multiplayer can be unbalanced sometimes which can seriously aggrivate a player/me.

Is X3: Gold Edition as good as it sounds? I played Freelancer but my disc broke a while back, is this nearly as good?

There's no less control than the average RPG. You may be more familiar with first-person ones where every attack needs a click, but you can control as much as you want in Dragon Age. Just turn off party tactics and you can decide every target and spell/ability yourself.

But in the combat I saw it was a person choosing something then just watching, I just prefer games that I can controll, and it dosent seem I have much controll, however I may buy it, but how easy is it to learn the controlls, and is it any good on 360 or is it a bad port.

How's Bioshock 2?

Not fussy, gather missions are annoying, gaurd girl against infinante enemies after killing a big daddy, the atmosphere just dosent have the same feel as the first, I dont feel as nervous because I am a big daddy.

Its very good.

Multiplayer is unbalanced when a guy with a...Gatling gun ? Or something kills you, then gets stronger when they take a pic, if I cant kill them already why make them stronger, and the grenade launcher is annoying aswell when people just run around with it, oh yeah and the idea of people on another team having lvl 18s when my group had about a level 6-10. Only played civil war though.

Not really comparable. Both are great games, but X3 is far more complex, and has a higher emphasis on trading and management, though you can also be a bounty hunter, pirate, smuggler, amongst other things.

The damage bonuses are hardly noticeable. I'm only rank 8, but I've had no trouble and I hardly do any research myself. The only thing I'd consider being OP is the Big Daddy suit, but I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be like. Even they aren't too hard to take down though. If you can get 'em around a turret or something, get around behind with the shotty or machine gun and electro bolt. Probably take a few tries if you're alone though.

Big daddy suits always spawn in enemy territory in my games :( and they are supposed to be overpowered, and usually I fight them on my own, die and then someone sweeps in when almost all health is gone. As for the damage bonuses noticable or not, why make someone you cant kill stronger.

That's awesome, I played a merchant in Freelancer and found the economy rather dull. Doing the diamond trade got old after a while. :P

Smuggler doesn't sound too bad though. Since it's singleplayer only, can I pay for ships to guard to me? Or am I all by my lonesome?

You could have an entire fleet guard you if you could afford to build and equip it :P

That begs the question of whether you're familiar with RPG's, since "select action to execute" is pretty standard. To make comparisons to Bethesda's stuff, in Morrowind or Oblivion you select a spell and press the cast button for it to automatically work. In that sense it's the same, but in terms of weapon-based combat, no, there's nothing like"press left and attack to swing left." You right-click a target to auto-attack it until you choose some other ability or spell. The game has a "Tactics" system, and how much you control depends on how much you use it; you can set AI behaviors for party members like "If HP < 25%, use health potion" or to attack any enemy who attacks the leader, and if you set it extensively the battle can mostly run itself. Whether you rely on it or don't use it at all is up to the player.

Controls are easy, being more or less WASD to move and clicking on whatever you want to interact with, but I can't tell you about any comparisons between PC and 360.

Anyone play "Barrow Hill: Curse of the Ancient Circle"? Is it any good?

I'm in the mood for a mystery adventure game with a mature theme (as in, it's got some guts to it) after playing Daemonica, can anyone recommend me something? However, I don't like thriller/horror survival stuff.

Barrow Hill is...ehhh, it's okay. Perfectly serviceable as an adventure game--the puzzles are okay and the controls are good--but there's not much "guts" to it. Also a lot of the story verges on a rip off of an old Doctor Who serial. It'd be good for a rental, but I don't think it's quite what you're looking for.

I'm tempted to recommend Scratches, which has a much more mature storyline and is all around a far better game than Barrow Hill, IMHO. (Like Barrow Hill, it has a supernatural edge to it, but...well, it's up to the player's interpretation whether it's real or not.) It's a mystery game, but does have some horror/thriller elements. (No survival horror; mostly psychological and a couple "jump" scares. Most of the horror comes from the player psyching him/herself out, I've found. ;) ) So that may not be what you're looking for, either, but it's a thought.

It's great fun for a while. It'll probably last you a good week or two if that's all you play during that time. Though once you finish the main quest, like many open world games, it starts to get rather dull. The main quest is great, the side missions are fun, and it's much more fun to play than GTA IV in terms of the stuff you can do. If you can get it cheap I'd recommend getting it. And fyi, Saints Row 3 will be shown at E3 this year.

From what I've heard it's pretty good, but I also heard it got a rather steep learning curve. Is it worth it?

Hmmm, interesting. By "guts" I didn't mean actual guts. Just... I dunno how to describe it. Just something that isn't a bland happy go-lucky mystery (like Syberia), but something that is darker and more gritty. I've read that Scratches can be scary... is there any combat I have to worry about? Are there some really good plot twists I won't see coming? Is the interaction with the world extensive, or is it rudimentary? I.e., making critical observations and manipulating/combining objects, as opposed to "pick up object A and insert into object B"?
