Unofficial "Is [insert game here] any good?"

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 5:03 am

Thinking about getting a game, but not sure if it'll be any good? Ask away!

For those replying: please explain why you did or didn't like a game; constructive feedback is more informative than a simple "this game was awesome" or "that game was awful."

Garry's Mod any good?

If you like building random contraptions or want to do some machinima, yeah, it's great. You can build all kinds of wierd and wacky things, and it can just be fun messing around with the physics.

DAO is a great game but it's very linear compared to OB. Also a way different combat system. The only similarities between it and OB is that they're both fantasy RPGs.

Is dead rising any good?

I loved it, the humour in the game is great, the killing zombies and taking pictures thing I enjoyed greatly. There are so many different ways to kill the zombies that it stays fun for a long time (at least it did for me). There are however some less successful parts, such as rescuing some survivors. One or two of them at the same time is doable, but sometimes you don't have enough time to save them one by one, so you bring along 6 of them and half of them get stuck behind objects and get killed by the zombies, that annoyed the crap out of me. Also, the story is nice if you decide to follow it, but the true end of the game really falls short and the last part of the game get's annoying for reasons I can't really spoil now.

No. Buy the first one. The second was absolutely horrid. The sixual innuendo was terrible, and there's so much of it it only makes the broken combat and camera worse.

Yes. I liked it way more than brawl. Not as good graphics but who cares.

Its Decent. SSB Melee is also great in its own right i.e. combat is lighting fast.

Game store near me is selling the game plus guitar for just $40, pre-owned - I'm just debating whether or not it's a good deal

No it doesn't. Not liking a game, probably because it doesn't fit your style or isn't your type of gameplay, is just fine even if most people do find it a great game. Not liking it doesn't automatically make it a bad game in general. I don't like Fallout 3 and I don't think I'm a bad person. I'm just stuck in the old Fallout 1 and 2 ways and I don't like the changes, shame on me ;)

Not at all. I run into the same thing on many games that everyone seems to love and rave about. But, I find I just don't really have fun playing the game, or I don't like it. I sometimes think maybe there's something wrong with me, like I'm not approaching the game right or something. But, no, I think my tastes are just different. Different bananas for different monkeys, or so the saying goes. Don't feel bad about it. :) If you're in the US, you can trade your used games on Switchgames (see my signature) for a game that you do want. I'm sick of getting 'burned' by games, so that's why I use Switchgames, get the used games at Gamestop (good return policy for full refund), play the demos, or make sure I buy games at a low price.

Here are some games I tried and didn't like:
Devil May Cry
Arx Fatalis
Castlevania: Symphony of Night
Mirror's Edge
Viewtiful Joe

I also don't like orange juice. I know, I'm sooooo weird! :o

Guitar Hero: World Tour - yay or nay?!

Yay. Especially with the extra songs available on PSN/XBL and a friend or two. :D
Later on, you should also get GH5, if you get bitten by the bug. :D

The campaign is Frantic, Furious (sometimes Frustrating), and Fun. A bit short though.
For more on Mutliplayer, take a look at the resident MW2 thread (haven't played much MP myself). :)

Yes. The campaign is short but pretty fun, and the multiplayer is excellent.

The PC version's multiplayer is horrendous.
