Unofficial Mincraft Thread #81

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 7:18 am

Haven't played in a while, looking to do some single player. Are there any interest mods I should be looking at? I'm not hugely into building, more the exploration part.
Thaumcraft is pretty good, adds some interesting stuff.

TerraFirmacraft adds a more realistic approach to everything, meaning to find certain types of stones or ores you'd have to find a certain biome. There are about 130.

Heh, if only you knew...
Oh I'm sure somebody's done it before. But that's not the point. I might like to try it myself. :D

Our server did. Hell Pov was our main designer and builder.

Speaking of which, Pov fancy trying to take a crack at it again? Retro is building the Imperial City and the subject of Vivec was brought up again.

I wish we could do something like that again. It's difficult getting everyone to pull together though when the map as a whole is decentralised.

Are there supposed to be no jungles in Technic Pack? I've been playing for a while and haven't seen one which is really odd.

That biome was added in 1.2. The Technic crew just put out a dev version for 1.2.5, but both Technic and Tekkit are still on 1.1.

And then MC suddenly updates to 1.2.6 upon release.

I feel bad for mod developers sometimes.

So when playing with Technic it's normal that there are no Jungle Biomes. Thanks. But when will Technic and Tekkit update? Since there is a dev version.

Jungle biomes are included in the latest development builds, so yeah.

Edit: Oh, and the updates will be released once most bugs have been ironed out I imagine.

1.2.5 is the final one for 1.2. What we get in the new per-releases will be additional content in 1.3, which will have the server-side API fully useable, just not fully fleshed out quite yet.

Every one of us picked our Minecraft user name when we signed up on minecraft.net for the first time (and every time thereafter). For most of us, knowing that whatever name was chosen is stuck with us forever is just a part of the game. Still, what if you gave yourself a silly or inappropriate name? What if you're just tired of the one you have? Currently, this means getting another copy of the game - but maybe not for long.

http://twitter.com/jeb_/status/196224261923414016 that username changes might be a feature in the near future, something that Mollstam is looking into currently. While there is no set date - or even a hinted one - for the feature's arrival, it would seem that it's more a matter of "when" than "if" now.

- Name changes to be expected in the future, will it cost or not, who knows

-- Seems everyone doing Hunger Game games now http://www.minecraftforum.net/news/484-hunger-games-by-hunger-craft/
-- The Minecraft Wiki also got an overhaul and now looks like the forums, rather than the basic wiki background, which I preferred now it looks daft. http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Shadow_Mob

Regarding Vivec.

If Pov still has the schematics for it, I think it would be a very nice project to do. We could have it be a ways east of the Imperial City... that being said, it would probably be nice to give the builders Creative Mode privileges for the project. Many people will say that making a building without unharvested resources is cheating, but I strongly disagree. The whole collecting resources piece of the game gets boring after a couple years of doing it...

Anywho, this brings me to my next subject. A while back, I brought forth the idea of Player-Made dungeons for other players to explore through. At the time, our server was in a rather... poor political state. Now that we have the ball rolling again, and a constant amount of players on a daily basis, I would like to bring forth the idea once more.

For now, I won't go to much in depth. It's 3:20 in the morning, and I think I have a darn fever, so I don't want to screw up the explaining. Just think about the idea for now though, folks.

So does anybody have any advice on how to build in the nether without getting shot at by Ghasts constantly?
As for Vivec I think it would be best just to make it on a tekkit map. You can set up a cobble generator, pump that cobble into a macerator and compress the resulting sand to mass produce sandstone. We'd have an abundance of sandstone and we wouldn't feel like cheats.

Build into the pillar/mountain/walls instead of out in the open. Seems the building at the nether portal from spawn town is wrecked.

Unfortunately I'm building a tower in the middle of a lava lake. The building on the other side of the spawn portal could do with repairs.

I don't think I'd be willing to create a Vivec canton all over again, but I'll see if I still have the plans somewhere.
