Unofficial Minecraft Thread 41

Post » Sun May 29, 2011 12:19 am

So now that I figured out how to have http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?p=2541247#p3285224, does anybody have any suggestions for some mods to try out? I'd like to find something similar to the RPG mod the server's running. Unfortunately that one appears to only work on SMP servers. The Aether mod looks pretty cool but it's not out yet.

I now know what I must do with that mob spawner I wanted to create in the Share... I must model it after http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=37160. It couldn't possibly be an eyesore then!

Also, Ant has come up with an improvement on how to handle truncated turns with the share map - I'll let him explain it, but I'll say right now that it's totally uncontroversial and good. Yeah.

So, I have begun building a secret fort in the nether, separate from the one already being built....

Not so secret now is it :P

We would continue with the current schedule we have now, with each person allowed a guaranteed 3 day long turn on the map in each round, but the way we deal with turn forfeiting and early ends to turns would change. Under the current system, if someone gives up their turn right before their turn is scheduled (as opposed to a few turns in advance), that time gets added onto the turn of the next person. The time left from a turn ended early also gets added onto the next person's turn, and if that next person also gives up their turn or ends it early, all of that extra time just builds up and gets dumped on the next person in line. Under the new system, if someone gives up their turn or ends it early, the remaining hours left in that turn, whether it be the full 36 or just a handful, will be up for grabs. The person that claims that time will start working on the map, filling in the remaining time left on that turn, and then uploading it once the next turn is scheduled to begin. The person who worked on the map for those remaining hours will still be guaranteed their scheduled 3 day turn, and the turn they filled in for would just be bonus time. Anybody could claim that bonus time as long as they're online to do so. This is different then claiming a vacant spot on the schedule well in advance of that turn (we'll still do that), as this is just a solution to the problem we currently have where extra time suddenly appears and just keeps accumulating and being pushed onto the next person in line.

So, that's the idea. What do you guys think?

So, I'm using the finite liquid mod and I've build a large dam/above ground lake. I have a couple problems.

1) It's far away from a water source (the ocean), so it takes a ton of pipe (and iron).
2) Pumps can only pump so far, so I need even more pumps/iron/work to make it work.
3) I'm tired of mining for just iron!!

Now, my roommate suggested I make an aquaduct so that I just pump the water straight up and let gravity do the rest and I think that's a pretty swell idea. I'll let you all know how it turns out.

Also, I plan on blowing up the wall and flooding the area...cause I'm that kinda guy.

I'm sorry for the late upload and teh lack of mining I did. Also the state it is in( in the mines), but something just came up and I have to go. Sorry.

Well that means it's http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1187360-unofficial-minecraft-thread-41/page__view__findpost__p__17654042 until the 17th.

And I'm guessing the lack of any feedback, positive or negative, means that you guys are fine with the new schedule system? It's hard to tell the difference between good silence and bad silence. If you are fine with it, then the next time a turn is forfeited or ended early, one of you can claim the map for the remainder of that turn.

Hey Tank, I havent tried it just now, but an hour or two ago, I was having this same issue. I asked Bone about it, I don't know if he told you about it, but I just wanted to point out I too am having this whitelist issue. (Just reporting bugs to admins basically)

I don't think the whitelist properly loaded during one of the restarts. Should be fine now. Let me know if problems persist.

i may have found our performance issue that some players are experiencing.

From The Wiki Bug List:

Theres a file called map.txt in the achievement folder inside minecraft.jar that causes performance issues. Removing it may greatly increase your performance, but may reset your achievements.

So as I suspected, it is a 1.5 SMP issue and not a mod or server issue.

Also a quick void fix:

Enormous, cuboid areas (usually one or two chunks) of unfinished map open in random places. Caves, minerals, water, magma and mobs are visible when a Player peers into one of these voids. These areas cannot be walked on, causing a "[user] moved wrongly!" message to appear in the Server; however, players can ride minecarts through them with relative ease. If the void appears in the middle of water, Players can "float" over the void using a boat. Placing a torch next to one of these "void holes", dumping lava or water nearby, or disconnecting and reconnecting to the server will make the land inside of them reappear. These have become significantly less common since the 1.3 update.

Some more quoted bugs that might be problems with performance:

Seemingly as of Beta 1.3, some players have been getting huge amounts of strange lag. They get good fps, but everything from placing blocks to damaging mobs can take anywhere from 10 seconds to 6 minutes. It is apparently related to the server, and NOT client-sided. The server recieves the data, but takes a long time to send it back out. It appears to only affect 1-2 people at a time, coming and going randomly. [3]

As of Beta 1.5, this problem seems to be less severe, but still exists.

The minecraft server sends unnecessary many but small network packets. Between packets are often less then 0.00001 seconds. Tests have shown that if those packets get manually buffered that some players will have less lag and less disconnectshttp://getsatisfaction.com/mojang/topics/clients_lose_connection_with_exeption_disconnect_overflow_after_few_seconds_on_the_server

A heavy arrow deathmatch causes severe lag on the server, takes minutes to recover. (picking up the arrows helps)

Check the bugs wiki to see if you notice any problems:

Well that gives a good reason for the lag with text and blocks. I sure hope Notch has fixed that bug....I hope.

Well I was messing with the textures today and I changed the texture of the redstone torch to be purple , the bedrock and I did the glass too but it didn't work. I really don't like the default glass so I will try again.
