Unofficial Patch 1.4 PC Issues Thread

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 5:35 am

The Cornered Rat quest is still bugged. I cannot complete the game. I've been waiting a month to be able to finish it.

I decided to start a new game to see if there was performance increase, the previous patch made the game unplayable, but I cant do that either. When my head is on the chopping block the dragon never lands he just flies around. I tried waiting but he never landed.

I really dont think I'll be able to finish the game. The more patches they release the more issues there are with the old save files and I don't feel like playing all over again. I bought the game fully expecting I would be able to complete it.

i press "play" from the menu, my computer flashes up a User Account Control window asking me if I want gamesas Launcher to make changes to my computer, i click "yes", and it drops me back to the original load PLAY OPTIONS DATA FILES screen. I've tried disabling some of the mods using the DATA FILES option but it still won't let me go any further.

Oh no! You installed steam and skyrim in the Program Files folder... I heartily recommend you uninstall both steam and skyrim, and restart the install, selecting something like "C:\Games" as the install directory for steam. You will then be rid of all UAC (User Account Control) problems! Don't worry about your saves, they're elsewhere.

Seems to be a minor issue with NPC dialogue; their lines cut off in the middle & they skip to the next one.

I just shot dragon bones 500 meters (into a lake!) with firebolt spell. Not sure if it was dual cast or just one-handed. Fus-ro-dah would not send it flying but the Firebolts did. Additionally, I killed it with Firebolts.

Just tested some more, it works with Lightning Bolt and Ice Spike too.

Man, crashing every half hour or more now. Rapidly approaching unplayable. I really hope they patch this patch soon.

Since the patch, the water in my game has been flickering. It looks like it's displaying the various layers individually rather than on top of each other to create the appearance of depth. I didn't have this problem before the patch. I have no mods. I have a Radeon HD5700 series video card.

Many have had this issue. I have Nvidia SLI & the fix was to either enable "alternate frame rendering 2" OR disable all water reflections.

Just got the 1.4 update. My previously stable game is now freezing up every 15 minutes. Music plays, but the game hangs. CTRL-ALT-DEL to taskmanager shows the app as NOT RESPONDING and the process is sitting at 1.5GB memory in use (on my 4GB system) and 0-1% cpu. System is only partially responsive (no mouse!) at this point.

1.3 ran fine, using Nexus mod manager and SKSE with TESV acceleration. Since the update, I disabled the Accel mod, but the retextures are still there (face it, the stock 512 textures are awful). SKSE is updated, as is SkyUI.

You killed my game with this update! First game in years that I was really into, and now I can't play for more than 15 minutes at a time.

Using latest ATI/AMD drivers.

Gonna have to go hunt for a way to restore 1.3?

My issue is that I can't opt-out of this beta...

I followed their instructions and it's still beta.

That's all semi random. If the courier met you your first playthrough at whiterun it doesn't mean he would meet you there again(why it took 5 reloads to show up). The courier shows up for some shouts and not for others in my experiance, and depending upon where he's running from wont meet you in the same place. I bet if you'd went on your merry way the cOurier would have shown somewhere else.
Maybe you're right, but, I've played that countless times at the courier always showed up when I arrived at Whiterun, except one time in version 1.3. where I had to load and reload before he shows up. So I see it as a malfunction. ;)

We still have people dropping from nowhere. Yesterday, a Whiterun guard splashed on the floor quite in front of me. On arriving near the body, I just had the time to see that it was a Whiterun guard and pfffffttt it disappeared. After that, it was a necromancer that fell on the floor from nowhere but this one didn't disappeared.

I also saw a mammoth levitating all of a sudden before getting back on the floor, unharmed.

All this was already described in earlier versions of the game; it means that it's still to be fixed. These droppings things are quite disturbing. ;)

Mammoth problem I've seen in earlier patches.

You know what's wrong with Skyrim these days? Nobody reads anymore.

Solving problems with latest patch.

1. Go to the first page of this thread and read the very first topic carefully. Make sure you understand what it is saying.
2. Uninstall all MODS. Every last one, even the ones you think is harmless and could never cause problems. I repeat, remove all mods.
3. Delete Skyrim.in and SkyrimPrefs.ini from both the SteamApps/Common/Skyrim folder and the My Games/Skyrim folder and let Steam validate you game cache to replace and repair missing and altered files.
4. Remove any d3d9.dll from your Skyrim folder as well and anything that starts with ENB.
5. 1 Update your GPU and Sound drivers to the latest version. If you are running Beta drivers try reverting back to a previous release. Drivers have a big impact on stability in this game.
5.2. Or if already on the latest use something like Driver Sweeper and completely remove the drivers and reinstall.
6. If your game still crashes after this then uninstall it completely, delete any files in the Skyrim folders (Steam & My Games) except your Save files and then reinstall and update again.
7. Check GPU and CPU temps after 10 minutes of play to ensure you have proper cooling. Check again after 30 minutes and 1 hour.
8. Let the game detect your hardware and use the settings it reccomends.
9. You did disable ALL MODS right?
10. When loading an earlier save please save the file again and load from this new save as this solves a lot of stuttering issues.

Please follow the above steps to the letter before filing a complaint because then you can say in all honesty that the game is bugged on your computer and everyone would agree.

Good advice. I do this as a rule of thumb whenever a patch is released, then manually copy my INI tweaks back in. This time around however, I am still getting constant crashes where the game will permanently lock up, and I have to Ctrl-Alt-Del and end task. My GPU temps never go over 68c, and my system is still perfectly stable once I've used task manager to close Skyrim. No mods, no wrappers. I even uninstalled my graphic addons (custom textures.)

Also, the issue with sound cutting out is only getting worse it seems, or maybe I just notice it more. But it is literally every other conversation, half the words are missing! I'm not trying to exagerate, it really is that bad. I don't have this issue in FO3 or Rift, so I know my system hasn't just coincidentally gone on the fritz simultaneously with the patch release.

These issues are unique to 1.4 Skyrim, and I really hope they do something about it soon. I'm certain they will eventually, as they've been pretty good about that this time around.

My game is running perfectly. I do feel for the people with problems but what i see the whole time is everyone that have problem with ctd's etc have some sort of mod or tweaked ini file. Get rid of that stuff play for a couple of hours and see what happens. One cannot expect a patch to be updated to work with your mods and tweaked ini files, Your mods must be updated to work with the game. If the vanillla game runs fine then beth did their job. In the case where the vannila game crashes, freezes etc i would say sure beth fix it

Gah, I give up. Done all the above steps, no mods, and the crashes and sound glitch persist. Now the game is stuttering terribly as well. Guess it's a sign it's time to give it a rest for a while.

After updating the game last night my mining skills flew away. I can see the nodes, it says something like "Press E to mine", but it just clicks. If I drop the pick it says need an pick to mine. Doesn't matter where in the word I try it, same result. Deleted all mods, no difference. Tried to exit and then enter the cell again, no improvement. Any ideas of what might cause this?

now with the patch, my game won't start. When I launch the game I first get the bethesda logo etc, then see the menu for about a second, but before I'm able to press ''continue'' I get a crash already. Tried deleting Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini, and also tried launching without any mods enabled, nothing helps. Also verified cache integrity with steam. Any suggestions?

Well I'm having horribad stutter, much worse than the previous patch. (official patch)

It's still mostly a problem indoors (60 fps indoors btw, no fluctuations larger than 1 or 2 frames) but it feels like it's a bit stuttery outdoors as well, even though my framerate is constant and smooth...

Same here, with generally better performance (now getting 56fps on the steps at Dragonsreach, was 48fps with skyboost) but a definite increase in stuttering, both inside and out.

Seen some odd things too, like a flying horse and rider by the bridge near Honningbrew Meadery, a character chopping wood halfway through a door at Haelga's Bunkhouse in Riftin, and someone leaning on an invisible table by the same doorway, though these may not be specifically linked to the patch...

Stability seems rock solid, with not a single ctd during several hours of sustained play.

Perhaps the guys with noticable stutter should post hardware specs? Perhaps even a dedicated thread for that. It would help to find a common denominator which could make it easier to resolve this issue as it's only some who is experiencing it.

I thought there already was a thread somewhere?

It isn't an unknown issue though as my stuttering is the kind only shown in first person. Quite a few people are having this problem...

Oh, and if you were wondering, my specs are: 2500k @ 4.4ghz
Sapphire hd 6870 1gb
8gb corsair vengeance ram

Game is running at ultra settings with AA turned down to 4x at 1080p. It's also running off a 7200 rpm seagate barracuda but I doubt that would explain the stuttering...

I think we have multiple threads talking about stutter! I've posted in two of them, but here goes again.

Exteriors are fine, but certain interiors are definitely not smooth. FRAPS either reports decent FPS or takes a nose dive. One particular location I use for testing is Orotheim, it's a small cave far west of Whiterun. Head there, and walk through the cave, looking left and right as you do so. I've tried this with and without mods and it's not smooth. I can get a steady 45 FPS on the infamous Whiterun viewpoint.

Specs:
Intel core i3 530 (non-OC)
Gigabyte GTX 460 1Gb (pre-OC)
8Gb DDR3
Windows 7 64 bit
1080p res
Beta nVidia drivers (the ones with the Skyrim optimisation)
Shadows - medium, 2xAA, everything else ultra. FXAA off. 16xAF and Performance AO via nVidia CC.

Running with 50 FPS cap via Inspector, and Triple Buffering via D3DO.
