Update 1.6 has mounted combat!

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 11:37 am

Though, I wonder how long it will take people to start whining about it...?
You just quoted the first guy to...

I'm really surprised by those who complain. Is it perfect? Not at all. Is it better than no combat? HELLS YEAH! I had an immence amount of fun in the last 20 minutes. It's really awesome despite it's drawbacks.

I just messed with it for about ten minutes. Here's my report:

It's pretty cool. You can use one and two handed weapons and bows. But no magic or staves. The controls are somewhat odd, but it's still fun as hell and is awesome.

It's evident now that Bethesda clearly doesn't give a hoot about magic users. They dislike magic and don't want people using it, so not only do they screw it up, they leave out mounted combat for magic. I get the hint Bethesda. You want me to be a warrior.

Nope. I was unable to use magic or a staff.

Thanks for checking!

Horse riding is already third person only, so it's only third person.

I realize horse riding is 3rd person. I'm asking if that has changed with the advent of mounted combat. If it hasn't changed, that's kind of a bummer for those of us who enjoy first person combat.

Considering we didn't even have mounted combat until essentially a few hours ago, isn't that good enough for now?

Also, yay! The community asked for a feature, and they got it. Though, I wonder how long it will take people to start whining about it...?
Lets ask for something we have been asking for a long time

It pisses me off we get cool updates, then people complain about it's not good enough. You have a right to complain, but I also have a right to say something about it

*insert random whine here*

I like the idea and it IS impressive that the dev team is aware of their community's wishes AND try to grant them. If that's not fan-service then I don't know what is.

On a sidenote: I seriously love your avatar. Is it your own work or was it found somewhere? Great rendition of an average Dunmer male.

I'm happy for my warrior and thief but sad for my two mages. Better than nothing though.

hmm, that might be kind of impractical with third-person horse combat.

maybe if it was first-person...but alas.

Given that previously, in fact in previous games even, had no horseback combat, anything is welcome. This actually shows they seem to give more a damn about the community, and improving the game, than they used to if anything.

I highly doubt they hate magic given they spent so much time on it in the first place. Just wait, who knows, maybe something magic-related is up next. I wouldn't declare that they hate magic unless mages are unplayable in TES 6

Cool, what a new step forward, I may actually use a horse sometimes now

Isn't there some parade you should be raining on, or a crowded room you could fart in?

I'm so happy over this, been wanting mounted combat since forever.

I can guarantee you there are likely good reasons to disable magic on horseback. Magical combat is handled differently then melee and archery by a long shot, there is a lot that happens in game every time you cast a spell. They probably disabled it because many spells would somehow break something. Probably most shield and ward spells, since I'm fairly certain that the player's collision geometry isn't exactly where the player sits on horse, so those spells would cause issue for sure. Then there are shouts, what if the player whirlwind sprints on horseback? Problem ;p

Though that isn't going to stop me from opening up the CK and trying to enable magic on horseback...

Hey, you never know. Supposedly we're getting crossbows back in the DLC, and we got mounted combat, which I honestly never thought they'd do. There hasn't been mounted combat since Daggerfall. We'll just have to wait and see, I guess.
