Tried it out for a few hours this morning, and it's pretty neat. It really changes how I feel about horses, obviously - before they were
strictly for RP purposes. Now, they have a little bit of usefulness.
My biggest complaint is that we're still forced into 3rd person cam on horseback, which for me makes aiming and controlling very awkward. Mounted archery in particular is difficult. I play exclusively in 1st person, so this is rather jarring. It was already jarring when all I had to do was steer the horse; now I have to steer
and aim/swing.
I miss a lot.
But maybe I'll get used to it. At least this means I don't have to dismount to fight wolves, or avoid them altogether and miss the xp from killing them.
Oh, and using a 2-handed sword from horseback looks
badass! You only swing it with your right hand. When you're dual-wielding, you only use your right hand, too; the left hand just rests on the pommel.
Hopefully they'll implement a 1st person cam for horseback, and then get to spears.
