Update 1.6 has mounted combat! Thread #2

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 2:05 am

one thing I've noticed with 1.6 (finally got to try it out!):

loading is EXTREMELY quick now. it was already around 5 to 6 seconds when fast traveling, and around the same while entering interiors.

that now has been reduced to literally around 1-2 seconds. [censored] amazing.

how does this work exactly? can you use 2 handed, or just one, can you use a shield, etc etc
You can use 2h, bows, or your primary 1h. That means that even if you have a shield or second 1h weapon equipped, you always swing with your right hand. No magic or staves... yet.

also, haven't noticed any bugs thus far (which is surprising), apart from SKSE not starting the game unless I launch it from it's conventional launcher (not the SKSE loader but the Skyrim launcher).

Seems like a pretty unnecessary feature. Would prefer they work on displaying multiple weapons on a character at one time.

there were other noticeable improvements (like the one I've just mentioned).

while not an obligatory feature, the patch still has, so far, changed things for the better.

Did they fix the broken werewolf killcams?..They broke them with the last patch at least for me and a few others.

I'll actually test this out, since I know what you are referring to (NPCs freezing during the killcam, then falling dead in almost a comedy-like fashion).

yeah, a gamepad is really the only way to go with the horse combat mechanics. tried it with the M+KB and it's GOD AWFUL.

but horse riding has generally always been terrible for Skyrim on PC (for anyone using the conventional keyboard controls).

Really? Displaying multiple weapons on a character is pretty unnecessary... hell it doesn't effect game play at all.. " I ar want t2 l00k laek n1nja mast4r "

I'm still amazed that people can be unhappy about this... Especially those saying "I wish they'd do this instead." What, do you think all 100+ devs worked on this mounted combat? It probably took like 2 programmers, and a few animation guys. You act like the entire company was devoted to adding this one feature and that if they hadn't 'wasted' their time on it, other grand things could have been accomplished...

I'm actually extremely pleased right now (maybe because I'm using a gamepad? idk)

somehow I feel most of the people complaining though are console owners, who aren't going to be able to get the patch anytime in the (relatively) close future anyway  . for an example, check out the IGN youtube video which references this patch. it's full of resentful Xbox 360/PS3 [censored] commenting on how Bethesda is concentrating "too much" on PC.

edit - here you go: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEyDz38yGYI&feature=g-all-u (check the comments section, good for a laugh).

Lets not flip this thread upside down please :turned: I've already seen a few snipes for nothing. its a great thing they're doing. and honestly if you're griping about THIS (note I griped about Marriage where they could have done more interesting things) then you haven't been around long to know the Bethesda hasn't done anything like this Since the early days of Morrowind....

Bravo Bethesda!

I suppose those who are against it have never experienced the awesomeness of Mount & Blade Warband. Great news for me as an obsessive horse archer. Finally a reason to buy horses.

Now I only hope they find a way to put followers on horses too, or else no one will ever take them along anymore.

Now that the mounted combat is out of the way, can we please get an optional hardcoe mode like FNV has?

Awesome feature! This gives us so many more possibilities with roleplaying. :intergalactic: Still won't update my game until I get my killcam toggles, though. :meh:

and really, it's kind of frightening to think that if there is this much backlash about a timed exclusive for PC that includes horse combat, then how much will there be once http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAALSMnkt9wis finished?

I expect console owners will be retrieving their pitchforks and torches on that day.

So you can have both hands equipped? How do you steer the horse with no hands?

I just tried mounted combat and its really fun. Slaughtered lots of people, animals, and 2 dragons with my bow. The zoom and slow time perks helped a lot though. I hope they add the ability to shoot behind you while riding forward (the famous Parthian shot that many horse archers in history used) and make it impossible to shoot to your right side as right handed horse archer can't shoot to their right.

Two details make this meaningless to me.

One, when the horse charges at someone, it does no damage.

Two, there are no pole arms.
