Wasteland 2 Kickstarter (Now featuring Chris Avellone)

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 2:36 am

I hope Brian takes some ideas from FO3/NV. Would help make this game even better.
I assume you are talking about gameplay. Nope. Would not work at all.

See this is whats great about kickstarter, they have people who like the game as it is. They dont need to dumb it down, or mimic other games.

Gameplay? Nope. Writing from NV and some location ideas from F03.

Well maybe even some gameplay, I'm not a huge fan of isometric view. I think they could make it a great first person game.

I do have to say the DX11 stress test video, not sure if that's the one you are referring to, was pretty cool.
Yup that's the one. Yeah it was cool, I'm interested in seeing how they're going to work with it if that's the engine they decide to use. Seems like it has alot of potential.

I think that an isometric view is the wrong way to go imo. Isometric may work with games like Zelda but when you're shooting stuff to survive it feels like a glorified Oregon Trail. Or that game Loaded on PS1.

No. The people like me who have pledged want an isometric turn based game. That is what we'll be getting. Isometric or rotatable camera are both fine by me, just nothing close to the party members such as third person or first person.

No, you'll be getting what the developers want you to get.

Yes. The people like me who have pledged want a Fo3 combat system. That is what we'll be getting.

Yes, but what I wrote stands. Isometric or rotatable camera ala neverwinter nights, and turn based combat.

You're fooling yourself if you think you're getting a first or third person camera with real time combat. It's going to be turn based combat for sure.

But F03 is turn based. I only ever used V.A.T.S.

No it isn't. If it was turn based, the enemy would actually get a turn to attack you. Instead, you get 4-5 shots off before it even touches you.

That's not turn based. That's real time with pause.

Turn based is ala Fallout, Temple of Elemental Evil, X-Com, Jagged Alliance etc. Like that.

Not to mention Final Fantasy. Best turn based system was Final Fantasy 7.

I feel like the definition of turn based is too broad to really pin down to one game. FO3 was a version of turn based if you chose to use it. Just as those games you listed are also turn based.

I'm questioning the merits of this game, the new concept art makes it look streamlined for the masses. I think the donors won't quite be getting the item their nostalgia goggles are hoping for. I don't think Wasteland will be a BAD game, but I do believe it will be a bit of a disappointment. It sounds like these guys are going after an 'old' style of game in the 'new' game style world. Usually when someone tries to mimic an older style of idea, it clashes poorly with 'updated' graphics. Suffice to say, I feel Wasteland 2 will end up poorly recieved. If I'm wrong, so be it.

You're probably wrong. You've been hyper critical of Wasteland 2 since the first post in the first thread. Just please stop posting. We here it. You don't have high hopes and are not interested in this game.

That's funny, because with every other thread you come in voicing your negative opinion on it.

Cute though that we can't do it to something you're interested in.

I'm not interested? Pardon me for wanting to be sure of the project I want to buy instead of blindly throw my money at two vague pieces of concept art and no real gameplay demo.

That seems like a lot to assume from a drawing of a robot scorpion.

Tell me sir, when was the last time I went into a thread voicing my, "negative opinion"?

Haven't in a long while.

You're right, you can't do it in a thread I'm interested in. Because for about a month this is the only thread I've really been interested in.

Every thread ever. Literally. Even in the Halo thread when you pretty much said "It's my right to voice how I don't like this series.".

But I guess that rule only ever applies to you.

I said recently. Oh, and I backed out of that thread when I was called out; I said my piece in that thread and after I left. I'm calling Martyr out now. Balls in his court.

You know what. I don't care. Let Martyr stay and keep whining about how he doesn't like Wasteland 2. It's already been stated that gameplay videos won't be released for 6-8 months and after the kickstarter has ended and work has begun.

How the hell are you getting all of that from a piece of concept art?

I agree, but it's still a bit of a high gamble to throw your money at a game we know very little about. Is it a gamble as all video game production is? Sure. But I do believe the lack of real issuing of hard game evidence makes me suspect the game will be very unheard of or poorly recieved.

How can you like or dislike a game that isn't even out? And I don't recall Martyr saying anything of the sort.
