Weird/Wacky Wasteland Trait

Post » Sun Mar 13, 2011 8:46 pm

I personally don't see Wild Wasteland as being much different than Bloody Mess...they provide a sort of blanket change to some cosmetic aspect of the game. I really don't see the big deal here...but that's me. Do you play on the PC, Styles? If so, I'm sure there will be a simple mod that will allow you to turn it on without using a trait...for that matter there's prolly a console command for adding traits.

I do play on PC and hopefully a mode comes out soon after to turn it on. I am hoping it does not effect the jokes, the humor. The way I see it, Wild Wasteland is a Humor switch. "If you don't want pop-culture FO2 style humor don't pick it, If you want it then pick it." Like I said in another post, I am happy fallout New Vegas will have Marcus,Traits and Damage Theshold back but the Fallout Humor is optional? I don't like that. If I am right and it's a humor switch then I will always have to pick Wild Wasteland inorder to have that old school fallout feel. I thought New Vegas was going to bring that back but it might just be an option.

a suitcase that when opened contained only contains a glowing gold light. but you get 666 experience for finding it. after opening it two men (one white one black) spawn behind you and shoot with 9 millimeter pistols while wearing suits

This or finding a unique Katana and a Gimp

I would love to walk into a house with a shotgun placed next to a toilet and after a flush an unarmed raider comes out of the toilet

I'm not familiar with this trait. Does it alter the aethestics of the game world or will all the locations be in the same spot and look the same regardless of the trait?

I doubt it will. That would detract from the main game. We'll still have jokes and humor and Easter eggs, just probably adds a different twist to certain characters and random events.

I hope so, it seems a little silly if it just puts a few wacky references in. I don't want "big head mode" but some odd characters and dialogue would be nice. Truth is nobody knows unless Sawer mentions it

I hope I am wrong and it does not turn off the Jokes and Easter Eggs just puts alittle spin on it. Would be nice if a Dev came and explained it a little more. So far its the only real thing about FO New Vegas that bugs me. I hope I am just misunderstanding it, I really do.

Some other things, I don't see and Original robots from FO2 but I am not going to hate the game for not having them.

One of them yells, 'we should have brought a shotguns' before they die. Also you will find a royale with cheese in the white guys inventory, with an assortment of chems.

Do you think all world map will remain unchanged with the perk though? I won't be selecting this perk if it alters the maps locations but I will choose it if it doesn't.

No. I am sure the map will stay the same. I am just worried it will remove alot of the Easter Eggs, Dark fallout humor and pop-culture references. People complained about FO2 having to many Pop-culture references and the Devs making the game have had to listen to those people for over ten years. My fear is they came up with this trait to act like a humor switch, to turing the humor on pick it. Don't want it don't pick it.

i was going to add in the "shot guns" part but i started to think it was going to far

also i think with this perk. (assuming there is a boxing activity) the boxers should be designed to look like famous movie boxers. butch from pulp fiction. rocky from the rocky series, and so on

also while were on the topic of quentin tarintinos movies (there was a [censored] load of references to his movies in fallout 2) a girl wearing yellow who comes screaming at you with a sword.(she has unusually high health)

From what I gathered, it mostly affects random encounters. Or perhaps where objects are placed in the game world. I highly doubt it would change the actual map, though it's mostly just conjecture at this point.

An odder one, Weird Wasteland, would turn a lot of the game's cheekier jokes on or off. For example, you can play New Vegas with a willingness to come across a refrigerator that contains a bullwhip and hat — or you can play without worrying about seeing them.

My characters, Butt-Face (shut up; I'm juvenile) chose the intriquing Wild Wasteland trait. This one causes your Wasteland experience to verge on the bizarre -- you basically become a magnet for all the craziness of New Vegas, good or bad-- kind of like my actual life

"Wild Wasteland" will create some "interesting" encounters, both good and bad.

It sounds like it will be random encounters only, the game world should remain unchanged.

I'll be saving it for a later playthrough, but I will definitely be checking it out. I liked the easter eggs in Fallout 2.

Ideas:

a pair of Blue Suede Shoes.
a Yellow Reactor Keycard complete with a note that says "It STILL doesn't do anything!"

That's another old school Fallout reference. See, FO2 (and probably FO1) had an item called a "yellow reactor keycard" that didn't actually unlock any doors, even the ones in the various nuclear reactors you visit in the course of the game.

Not sure how I feel about being forced to pick a trait in order to have jokes.

I mean, black humour and pop culture references are kind of what makes Fallout "Fallout", instead of just some depressing "The Road"-type story.

*Disclaimer: I liked The Road, but god, I needed some happy pills after!

I want to see if the game is good before bombarding it with pop-culture references.

I should mention that I didn't mind them too too much in Fallout 2, it's just that they went kind of overboard.

Indeed- pop culture references are okay, but that amount is just no. I might save Wild Wasteland until my second playthrough- and when I can see what changes on the wiki.

I wonder what the negative effects of this trait are....I imagine that it'll be the fact some encounters will feature enemies but I'm hoping for a much more diverse setback.

Still cannot wait to finally own Indys Whip™ which has haunted Me since I played Monkey Island 2

Gah! Can someone at Obsidian please clarify exactly what it will do? Hopefully even answer a few questions about is as well.

I've used a yellow card (needed) to open one of the locked doors in Geckos nuke plant.

There was another one on a dead Enclave guy in Klamath by the crashed vertibird. That's the useless one.

I'm pretty sure you can use it in place of the one found in Geckos plant... They have the same item Id, afterall...

Uggh... nevermind... Friday the 13th really is kicking my rear... Just went and tested one of my FO2 saves.... I am wrong.

It's nice to know that Obsidian made the choice of making this an option
they'll certainly be cutting down on the constant stream of complaints

although it saddens me knowing that I have to give up one of my traits to see some of these references
but I'm sure that seeing Indie's hat will make up for it......I wonder if they'll make another Star Trek reference.....or maybe Star Wars..
....hmm...

I think that this trait will be dually worthwhile. First, for us who loved and spent many ours on the original games it will bring back that nostalgic feeling. Secondly, we will be able to find more sellable and possibly unique items (Indies bull whip and hat!) as well as possible side quests and dialogue options.

I think what it will be is that if you have it off, it will be more like Fallout 1 or 3, humor-wise. With it on, it'll be more like 2, humor-wise. It will still be funny, you just wont have any direct references to The Animaniacs or Star Trek.
