What unnecessary rules do you follow?

Always keep my carrying capacity at least 100 points free. It's a bit OCD, because I'm always scared I'll find some cool loot and I won't have the capacity to take it without dropping other things.

-After a quest/before leaving the game... always go to my House if possible. Take off all Equipped items, sleep or sit in front of fire as if to relax/rest/unwind...eat and drink something.
-Read the Books throughout Skyrim. ACTUALLY read them, not just read to get a power or level advancement. A lot of good lore, stories, and useful in-game how-to's in them.
-If/when I have had or might have a follower, if they die they are left in their robes with their weapon in honor and respect.
-Never kill wildlife with wild abandon- only as necessary, always take everything upon searching as not to waste.
-ONLY Fast Travel is if I am over burdened with items I want or need, and only after taking Potion of Strength for carry capacity, to sell them. Other than that, ride Shadowmere or walk if needing to be stealthy (Shadowmere doesn't mind he always finds me).
-Never advance Enchanting/Smithing by using the Celestial perks or by paying someone to advance learning. Want it to remain balanced as much as possible.
-If a Mage, then hoods off in civilian settings... but have a circlet now so doesn't matter. If Thief/Assassin hood remains on for secrecy.
-When talking with an NPC or other, always use all of the dialogue available.

Zelda Inspired I hopez. I'm adding that to my list. I go on bunny slaying quests, just for the Monty Python experience.

-In my house I have seperate containers for everything, one for Weapons, one for armor etc. Also I don't put all the food in one container, I have one for ingredients, one for fruits, one for vegetables, one for meat and so on.
- I always have Meeko as a follower and have bowl (for water) and a plate with food on it for him on the floor in my house
- if I exit a house/dungeon before fast-travel I always run some steps before i travel.
- I take all the money I find in chests, urns, dead bodys with me, even if I have more than enought coins already

I'm sure I forgot something, thats the ones I remember right now

I play my ps3 whenever I'm on my treadmill. To help you understand how I play
My set up, ax720 tritons, and use my LED 32' samsung in front of my treadmill and use a split fish controller. This helps me immerse myself and makes it so I get a work out

Now then, my rules.

1. If I want my character to run, I have to jog/run. I usually just walk on an incline at 4.5mph, so for the most part my characters are forced to walk.

16. If I stop walking on my treadmill, or catch my breath from a run session, my character does the same.

And the list goes on. I have too many rules, maybe that's bad. ha.

That is pretty hard core.... :-)

Why no horses?

I really really really wish I could do that. But I would get so tired. Haha.

When I enter a town or city I change out of my armour and into 'normal' clothes. I deselect my shield and carry only my war axe on my hip. It helps me feel more like a part of the world. Instead of running around in full daedric armour I am instead just another civilian :P

Depends on the character. My Khajit doesn't wear a helmet. Part vanity, mostly because he has ears. Uses two-handed weapons, never blocks, because his motto is "It can't hit me, if it's dead."

16.) Never take anything from the alters of benevolent deities, and always leave an offering.

Love it,

I'm going to have to start doing this. And trying to leave a "relevant" offering too. A shield for Stendarr? A sword for Talos?

2. Fast travels and horses, are a no go.
3. I stick with my characters ideal set up, my first play through, I tend to run around as an assassin/ rogue type
4. I follow the original five tenets. Which causes issues with me and the game at times.
5. I sleep at night, or at least, force my character to pass out for 4 hours a night if I find a camp at night.
6. If I was hurt severely and had a difficult battle, I'll force my character to sleep for a couple days to act as if he/she has rested to heal, or passed out because of inuries.
7.I don't wear helmets. I'm a vain person, I made it so my character looks like he/she did for a reason, not so I could cover their faces.
8. I limit my magic to healing, I'm not one for spells, and my philosophy has always been, "rage early, rage often."
9. I limit my use on two handed weapons, as I've seen that they make battles too easy at times.
10. I disregard shields, if you can't take a hit, or be clever enough to get around being hit, then your a crappy rogue/assassin.
11. If I want my character to swing his weapon, I have to swing my arm with the controller in that hand. Since I'm using a split fish controller, I have half my controls in my left and half in my right, so it's easy to do.
12. Limit my desecration of the deceased. Cracking open a cold one isn't to my liking.
13. If in a town, I'll sleep with my armor off.
14. If I don't have a potion on hand, I won't use it.
15. If I botch and mess up, i live with the consequences of what occurred. ( Accidentally killed a guard, etc)
16. If I stop walking on my treadmill, or catch my breath from a run session, my character does the same.

And the list goes on. I have too many rules, maybe that's bad. ha.

That is THE MIOST AWESOME playstyle I've ever heard. Oh, that is SO fantastic! *swoons*

Man, I want that setup. Want, Want, WANT.

i do many of the things everyone does here, but, with my new nord loyalist i will be trying some different things:

printed map of skyrim that i will fill in and use for navigation. i will also take quest notes.

i will choose majors that can be maxed and minors (archery) that will be 50ish or so. other appropriate skills will be pay for use only. perks will be very limited and specific to my roleplay only.

lockpick- since, this is neither a major or minor skill, i can only open novice at first and then must pay to train to access higher levels (apprentice at 25). will take notes of unopened chests/types.

alchemy- not a major/minor, however my roleplay assumes some basic 1st effect combinations learned while growing up in skyrim.

smithing- my plan right now is to only smith the things i want to use at early character levels; this will slow down level-ups and is realistic since i'm not roleplaying it as my vocation

no magic/scrolls/enchant for my nord warrior.

appropriate quests only.

1. Sleep at the inn of every town or city I come across, then eat food in the morning.
2. Don't take anything from any shrines.
3. No Fast Traveling.

I find this hard to believe, but congrats if this is true. It`s certainly a great way to enjoy a game and be exercised. Id do this too if I had a treadmill.

I never fast travel, and I don't allow myself to take a carriage to a city unless I have visited first. On my current character, if I see an undiscovered location on my radar I have to go explore it before moving on, which means I spend a lot of time being distracted, but it makes the game more fun. I must rescue any captured Stormcloak soldier I see and kill any Thalmor.

I'm not that strict on past characters, but I've decided to be more strict from here on out. I feel like I'm missing a lot of random stuff out there in the wilderness. So I'll be doing:

1. No fast travel!
2. Sleeping for a few hours if I arrive in town at night.
3. Taking a little nap after I cleared an entire fort of bandits. I deserve it!
4. Wearing my hawt tarvern clothes in towns.
5. No stealing and stuff, I bloody hate thieves.

Oh yeah. No summoning dremora in the middle of towns. I don't know why guards don't have a fit.

When looting, always take their pants. The failed incarnate had pants that let you fly, and you never know.

Dwemer crockery should be collected, it is valuable for it's social standing. A tea service should always be made out of lead.

Always bait the giants. The exercise helps keep them on their toes.

I always feel a bit weird when I eat antlers to gain the potion effect. Or giants' toes.

Actually, I usually only eat raw potatoes.

I sleep or wait every night just because I don't like walking around in the dark in games. It's harder to see the pretty landscape =D

I wear only helmets that can properly show off my character's cool face design.
i dont kill goats (seriously) i feel sorry for them when they make that noise when they die :(
- If a follower dies, he or she is dead.
- If that follower proved to be great help, or died while defending me successfully, I leave whatever weapon and armor he or she was using with the body as a sign of respect, no matter how valuable that weapon or armor was (not kidding here).
I always close the door.

I never wait, if i need to skip time for shops to open i will always go to the nearest inn and rent a bed.

I always eat food when i wake up.

I always drink mead every time i enter an inn for what ever reason.

My warrior uses no magic what so ever and my mage uses only magic with no armour.

I don't do this any more but i used to so i'll add it to the list anyway... I used to always remove all armour/robes when entering any kind of water.

I never reload if i am caught stealing, lose a companion in battle or if i attack somebody and get arrested.

If i get into battle with any Orc whether he be a bandit or just an old Orc looking to die gloriously, i always place their weapon across their body. (Don't do this with my mage character though)

I always close doors behind me.

Before i read a book i will sit down at a table and place the book in front of me.

I do the same as above for food and drink.

I take my helmet off when indoors.(not including dungeons of course)

There are probably a lot more that i cannot think of right now, most are pointless and silly i know but this is how i have always played in TES games.

- Find an inn or other place to sleep after a particularly long quest. Also applies if I enter a town at night (or day, if I'm a vampire.)
- Limiting fast travel. It's been hard.
- Eating breakfast (sweet roll) and dinner (usually meat and wine.)
- Telling my follower to wait outside my room at the inn. I like a little privacy.
- Not doing or saying anything my character wouldn't.
