What weapons should be in New Vegas?

But would also be completely useless against any mutant.

And against ghouls too.

They seem quite outdated (and in the German weapons' cases, even more unlikely) to be found - in working order - out in the wasteland in great numbers. But hey, they used an old Russian sub machinegun for the FO3 shotgun...

An M1104 shotgun like the one from Modern Warfare 2.
A captive bolt pistol (AKA the 'Air gun' for those who have seen No Country for Old Men).
Higher caliber pistols. I liked the .44s in FO3 but I want to live out my Dirty Harry obsession in New Vegas as well.
In relation to the above, I want a Desert Eagle or something similar. Heck, a .45 would do alright.
The option to silence any weapon, especially a shotgun. Seriously.
A .50 caliber sniper rifle + Bloody Mess= Amazing.
Tools like wrenches and crowbars as weapons, and maybe shovels too.
Something like a blowgun where you can knock out enemies with tranquilizer darts. Although not practical, ir would be fun for a while.
Hatchets and axes.
The ability to break enemies' arms and legs while unarmed, like for a finishing move you go in and push their elbow inwards and then snap their necks. Then do a Three Stooges kind of deal where you poke them in the eyes :)

I really enjoyed fallout 3 but the thing that got on my nerves the worse was the weapons( this does not include the energy weapons) First of all they weren't really realistic( pistol is suppose to look like a cigarette box). the pistol was absolutely terrible and there wasn't much to choose from. Second was weapons that you could make by using blue prints, that was just the biggest let down for me. I was expecting to be able to put a scope on my hunting rifle or something in common with that. And finally the third thing is the aiming part. if this was going to be a first person shooter RPG then the player should be able to look straight down the sight of the gun instead of a zoom in. All i want to expect to come out of Fallout New Vegas is the ability to add on to your gun and to customize it, more guns that look more realistic, and the ability to look straight down the sights instead of just a zoom in.

Have you played the other Fallouts? Obviously not...

I think it would be rad if you could carry around a can of gasoline or some similar flammable liquid and set fire traps like in Bravehart. Heh.

I'm starting to get annoyed by all these people whining bout guns not being from the right time line and you need old guns...Its pretty stupid considering any and all guns are possible, hell just because a gun in are time line was made in the 80's, 90's, etc. doesnt mean someone different in the fallout timeline couldn't have made it sooner or what not. Since it's a completely diffrent time line pretty much any gun could exist. And since the DEagle is so controversial then yes in are timeline it wouldn't have been used/made back then but in the fallout timeline it coulda been made a week later after the big ass war and we split timelines. So please stop complaining constantly since time pardox's are a mystery unsolved by men. :brokencomputer:

Well it is not just an alternative timeline.

Fallout's Universe is what people in the 1950s thought the future will look like. I just think that there should be a balance between real life weapons and Fallout's weapons since this is not Modern Warfare 3 or Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter X.

You are right: "time pardox's are a mystery unsolved by men". Maybe in the Fallout Universe Eugene Stoner did not succeed with ArmaLite and as a result a different weaponm system then the AR15 was commissioned by the US Army...

Isn't this far more interesting than a rehash of weapons that we have already seen in dozens of other games?

True, I'm just sayin i wish people wouldnt flip out everytime someone mentions a modern gun. And I dont want a load of weapons out of cod that would be idiotic but I mean a few modernish weapons made after the 50's wont hurt anyone so i dont see why people gotta be dikes and tell off people for wanting a modern gun. Me personly i'd ratha just have a mix of modern and old school guns....what they really need to do is put a few more non-alien/laser/plasma futuristic guns in the game...like the ripper from unreal tournament. I mean you could defintly make it look beat up and post apocalyptic mechanizing. One can dream i supose...

To me, no, I like having guns I know in the games I play.

And usually when developers don't use existing ones we get goofy looking guns like these:

I wish we could have different ammo types. I'd love nothing more, than a pump or lever action shotgun (preferably pump), but using nice big slugs.

No, they have a distinct style. Of course they are sort of disturbing because they look quite different from the weapon designs we are used to. But thats why like them, they are interesting. I just like it when a game challenges my imagination.

For example I think that those guns would fit the Fallout setting:

(The last one without the scope).

Some modern (real) American firearms that would really be found in the US. Like the M249 SAW (5.56mm), M240 (7.62x51mm), M4 carbine, M16, and other weapons that have been in use and will continue to be in use with the US military. And also some nice vintage military weapons like the M1928 Thompson, Grease Gun, M1903 Springfield, ect. And some AK47-like weapons. And some classics too, although I already mentioned a few that were in Fallout 2.

Oh yeah and how about some plain Gauss rifles and pistols... without a scope, more like how it looks in Fallout Tactics maybe?
Thank you for your time.

Which part of "diverged in the 1950s" do you fail to understand?

You are aware that those designs would be nearly a century old by the time of the Great War, right? While pre-war would be over a century-and-a-half.

Tell me, is the American military using Civil War muskets and repeaters nowadays?

Be nice to see the return of weapons from Fallout 2: Yes, they are old in terms of the Fallout Universe' current position in time, but perhaps newer models could return in their place. To name a few:

Vindicator Minigun
H&K G11E
M72 Gauss Rifle
PPK12 Gauss Pistol
YK42B Pulse Rifle
YK32 Pulse Pistol
Bozar
Light Support Weapon
Pancor Jackhammer
H&K Caws
FN FAL
H&K P90c
Desert Eagle

Seeing a return of weapon upgrades (like Algernon in Fallout 2 did for free) would be amazing as well, not to mention different ammo types like Armor Piercing.

Cheers!

No they aren't. However, the American military DOES NOT EXIST anymore at this time. There would still be tons of weapons like M16s and M4s lying around. It makes more sense than the Chinese using AK type rifles at the time of the war considering what they are using NOW. It also doesn't make sense for there to be random, obscure assault rifles that you would not find often in the US yet there are no M16s or anything..

Yes I know personal miniguns replaced belt fed machineguns. But there would still be tons of belt fed machineguns like I mentioned lying around. They are around in Fallout Tactics.

The bombs dropped in 2077. Not in the 1950s. Not every weapon and trinket has to follow a certain format.

You fail.

Edit again

Yes I know the Chinese use AK47 and AK74 variants still... yet that design is older than Eugene Stoner's design of the M16/AR10 whatever.

I can guarantee you that one of the first mods being ported from Fallout 3 to NV (If modding is possible) will be one of the major gun mods. there will be no shortage of modded guns, and I know that a lot of armor will get ported as well. So basically, mods are your solution.

Close to it in some cases, especially when it comes to sidearms. The M1911 is still in service in some U.S. military and LEO branches and it's been 99 years since it was introduced. The Hi-Power has been even more successful worldwide, though for "only" for 89 years. The 9mm Luger/Parabellum/NATO round is practically omnipresent in handguns and submachine guns despite being 108 years old. Rifles and machine guns saw the most development in the first half of the 20th century. The difference between a M1903 Springfield and an AR-15 is huge. The difference between an AR-15 and an M4 is not. The U.S. military's assault rifles still tend to fire .223 Rem/5.56 NATO, their marksman/sniper rifles still tend to fire .308 Win/7.62 NATO, and their sidearms tend to fire 9mm NATO or .45 ACP.

The Fallout games are also set in the United States which, practically speaking, means the private collections of citizens are as relevant as what LEO/military groups have. The U.S.'s "curio and relics" collector license system means that when a firearm is 50 years old, it can be transferred through the private market with a C&R license instead of a more restrictive FFL. If the End of the World came tomorrow, the number of private citizens rolling out with AR-15s, M1 Garands, Mauser K98s, AK-47s, Thompsons SMGs, BARs, Hi-Powers, Mosin-Nagants, and M1911s would be pretty large.

EDIT-This. The timeline may have changed, though it doesnt mean those guns still were not made.
