I don't know why people are bothered by the whole fallout universe (United States) was different from ours from the 1950s onwards. They made a big deal about the Desert Eagle, wasn't that made in Israel? So it could feasibly exist. Although I agree I prefer older weapons, or at least futuristic weapons that look oldschool if that makes any sense.

Probably because those rifles are way to modern, why not implement sniper rifles that don't exist in our reallity? Whats wron with "fantasy" SR's like this one: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Sniper_Rifle_%28Fallout%29 ?

The problem with that is, that's not really fantasy. Pretty much anything you could come up with has already been done. A sniper rifle looks like a sniper rifle... period. For example, the rifle you just posted from FO1 looks like a modified R700 with a shorter grip. The Fallout 2 sniper rifle is a G3 with wooden furniture and a scope. The Fallout 3 sniper rifle is the RAMO M650 with a different stock.

I think they should stick to real world designs or guns based off of real world designs because if they try to be too unique it will end up looking goofy.

For example these two rifles would be a perfect choice for New Vegas.

An M40A3 with a tan color or just plain wood for our light sniper rifle.
http://www.tacticalrifles.net/images/M40-300_desert_full_w_NF_REV_45.jpg

And an Armalite AR-50 for a heavy sniper rifle. It's got a bare bones design, not as modern as the Barrett .50 Cal and it looks like the big brother to FO3's sniper rifle.

No, you'll be chased and beaten. Like I've said lots of times before, people get huffy when it comes to Fallout's lore and how the weapons fit in to it. Apparently every weapons designer got a knock on the head in the Fallout world and is incapable of making anything that looks futuristic, DESPITE the fact that Fallout's universe is supposed to be based on the futuristic ideas of people in the 50s.

I would like to see more Pistol Variants, such as a desert eagle TYPE of pistol, one with more accuracy than the 44., but more power than the 10mm.

Also, more melee weapons of larger scale. Loved the auto axe from the pitt, so things like that are always nice.

IED

A weapon that you can drop and arm (like mines) and then you get a switch to press that will blow it up.

7 out of 11 of your suggestions are from the 60s or even the late 60s!

Again here is my take on real life weapons in fallout:

...
I still don't get it why the "M4" in the PC Gamer article has to look like a real life M4.

Of course it makes sence that weapon design did evolve in Fallout's timeline from the 1950s-2070s but couldn't you modifiy those guns like the M4-lookalike a little bit more so we have at least the illusion that they were built in an alternative timeline?

For example: Slightly different silhouette, magazine shape different, different cartridges than the 5.56 --> example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.280_British

I really don't mind some real life weapons, but I don't like the idea of finding dozens of them throughout the game.

For me its an "immersion" :celebration: breaker because I would always relate those weapons to our timeline.

Okay, well then just answer this question for me because it's been bugging me for a while now. Why does the split in the timeline have to apply to weaponry? Aside from the introduction of energy and plasma weapons, things probably still would've happened the same. Different guns are designed because soldiers need to get different things done. We adopted the M107 because we needed to take out people behind cover and the M249 because we needed a lighter machine gun than the M60. Now why don't the people in the Fallout universe have those same needs and ideas? Nobody ever says why, it just has to be different because it has to be?

Actually me neither, I'd rather find one or two, BUT sometimes my play style interferes with that concept of rarity. For example on my last playthrough of FO3 I was a Russian assassin, and I was kind of annoyed when I could only find a few Infiltrators in the Pitt because I wanted to outfit my whole squad with them (or something else that looked high tech).

For me its an "immersion" :celebration: breaker because I would always relate those weapons to our timeline.

That's true, when you think of the M60 and the M16 you think of Vietnam, and when you think of the M4 you think of Iraq (or at least I do).
I just wish we could find a few high tech guns, some rusty and dirty, and some in perfect condition. Just for the sake of choice.

For example, you could stumble across an armory in an underground fort that hasn't been disturbed (like Fort Constantine or something) and find a few high tech guns in perfect condition. Maybe you could find those same guns rusted and taped up on higher level enemies like... I don't know, gang leaders or super mutant Overlords, but not on your regular Raiders or Slavers. I think if the high tech weapons were scattered around like that it would be nice and having some be http://www.imfdb.org/images/4/43/MAG-TOZ194.jpg and some be http://www.imfdb.org/images/6/6f/Toz194.jpg wouldn't ruin the immersion.

Hell maybe even throw an engraved version of that same gun as a unique weapon, I think if anything that would add to the immersion of survival if you're like... given the choice to spare or kill an old lady to steal a http://www.billmainsengraver.com/images/Custom-Engraved-Handguns-by-Bill-Mains/1886-Colt-Lightning-engraved.jpg that's been in the family for generations. It would make sense and have a logical backstory as opposed to just being in the hands of some waster for no reason. But I don't know I'm just trying to think outside the box.

They should bring back the Needler from FO2. It could shoot needles filled with drugs or venom that poison and do extra limb damage.

Yes, but so is the Tommy? And basically most of the guns we've been talking about. Besides, it was created long before the 60's.

A couple of other cool ideas...

1: Russian or Chinese SKS, 7.62x39 caliber semi-auto carbine. It uses a 10 round (Russian) or 20 round (Chinese) integrated magazine that is loaded by using stripper clips.

2: British Sterling L2A3, a very accurate 9mm SMG with a 34 round magazine and a (slow) fire rate of 550 RPM.

I've never seen either of these guns used in a game... It would be great to see them in Fallout!

not if it?s rename, to be frank there where quite a few weapons in Fallout 3 that clearly either strongly inspired or directly ripped from real life guns but with some renaming we never payed so much heed to it (like the obvious AK-47 look alike being called a Chinese Assault rifle)

so the BAR could easly make a apearance if renamed and sligly altered (diffrent iron sight, diffrent kind of stock, diffrent metal colour etc)

Oh yeah, I know I'm just messing with you. The Thompson has an iconic value too, so there's no way it won't be in the game...

Perhaps a different caliber... it uses .30-06, but I think it should be perhaps 7.62?

Oh believe me, I've been trying to tell lore nuts that for a while now. I think the BAR would be cool. Hopefully we'll get a wide array of guns though, I want a Desert Eagle and an M60 myself.... and some sort of heavy sniper rifle... and a Mossberg... and...
