What's with the weird foreign accents

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 1:28 pm

hey all i love the game really amazing i just wish they use proper voice acting because most people especially the nords have a weird foreign accent. should be all american or british but other than that great game !!

Besides the obvious corrillation to the norse accents [it's what the race is based off of]. Has anyone knowticed that General Tilious is the same fellow that did the Doc in Goodsprings from New vagas?

You get voice acting for every dialogue ingame and whine about accents? /facepalm
I would rather get weird and different accents then hearing similar voices from every npc!

In an ideal fantasy world, no accent should sound like any accent we know on Earth. :P

I'd rather hear European accents than American accents though, that's for sure.
Actually American accents are really European accents, and Asian accents, and middleeast accents and ect, ect. considering what most people accredit as American accent only applies to about 7% of the population. Also depending on where in the country you go they sound compleatly different than any other part. People from Georgia sound different than folks from South Carrolina, and they share a common boarder. Just like Countries do..

Kia Ora

I would say, sadly they made a watered down Scandinavian voice so that the US would understand it give they winged like crap about the
Liverpool lass on xfactor seems to me (from being in chat rooms for years) there are people in the US that don't want to try and handle
voices from other parts of the world they want to change them to be the same as theirs,.. wake up smell the coffee guys there life outside the US
you would probley have a really hard time with true Scandinavian or German voices if the truth be known, gezzz some can't even handle Aussies
and Kiwi's it just plain lazy and total slap in the face for those you want to change. I mean no offence but it's offencnive the we have to make all the
changes to suit the US, get over it and grow up, stop with the hissy fits cause things are not what you want and acept what you given for what it is,
a fantisy based on the Scandinavian part of the world, (guessing) the Nords are based on Norway, the Norseman commanly called Vikings would
have a lot thicker/stronger accent than whats in the game to be sure.

PS

Foreign is only foreign if you don't come from there

Nords are based on a Nordic, or Scandinavian, archetype.

I really hope you're very young, or trolling.

They should sound Nordic.
Unfortunately, a lot of them sound Austrian.

I actually see the opposite problem the OP sees with Argonians.

Argonians used to have accents; in Skyrim only a couple of female Argonians sound like they have an accent. The rest just sound like people from California.

I'm just sad nobody had a Canadian accent
General Tullias sounds a little like a Canadian. Or at least American Midwest or something. :P

This game was made in America, they don't know real accents :P

As an Englishman, I can tell you the british accents aren't accurate, either.
+1, Case in point

Accents according to America. Of course nothing sounds authentic

I love the Arnie guards ha ha. They should have put in some voice easter eggs. Like one of the saying, "Get to ze tower!" Or something like that.
Modest humor at self-expense is very charming. They should have! I'd have paid an extra buck for GET TO DA TOWAH

Wait, is it PC to assume the Nord's accents are 'Norse', 'Danish', 'Swedish, 'German'?

... It's an Germanic accent, not any one type.

Who's to say what's "proper" for a Nord to sound like? I like to think they did a fine job, I mean I don't want all the Khajiits to sound like New Yorkers and the Argonians to sound like they're from Seattle. The accents make the different races feel, well different. If Nords didn't sound like Nords they'd just blend in with the rest of the humans in the game.

It is the true accent, is the thing. Nords aren't from Denmark. They're not from Sweden, or Norway. They're not from Germany or the Netherlands or Finland. They're from Skyrim. And the only people who can tell us what a Skyrim accent sounds like work for Bethesda.

From what I've noticed there are two distinct male nord accents (there are more I'm sure). One is german-ish for sure. The other one I've noticed from certain guards, mainly in solitude and whiterun, and it's definitely swedish. I'd say it sounds almost like a caricature of your typical English-with-a- Swedish-accent, and being Swedish it makes me kinda uncomfortable to hear.

And they both sound like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isB-3YDj4yc (viewer discretion advised: language, subject matter, etc) Michael Hogan is cool. :D

I like the they tried different accents with the Nords. It gives the impression you're in a very different place from Oblivion. Would be nice if they had consistent accents, or even had them vary by region, but it's better than everybody being from California.

I feel it enrich's the game, Oblivion sound wish becane very boring very fast becasue of the shallow/limited voice acting,
thats not to say it was bad it was just sparse and not much scope between race's.

The Dark Elf is a bit funny in Skyrim some sound like over educated toff's (Uni tort Queens English) and is a bit nsobish
but I think over all it great

that one nord lady in riften, the lioness something, has a terrible and I do mean terrible accent xD she sounds like the counterpart to the nordic dudes in dudes wheres my car, its that bad xD so yeah, they went way overboard with many of the voices, and I still think they had far to few voiceactors

I'm not really sure what it is, but the dunmer accent bothers me. They kind of sound like white South Africans.
The dunmer accents (both male and female) are bizarre and I can't quite pin them down. The male one sounds like a sort of hybrid of Cockney and Australian but I suspect is neither. I quite like it, though. Certainly more than "Mr Serious Business", a Nord voice I've run into much too often and which I rather dislike (though I suspect it's the direction rather than the actor that's at fault.)

You mean Cheryl Cole? She most certainly isn't a Scouser! I'm not a fan, but she's from my neck of the woods, Newcastle, on the other side of the country. Completely different accent.

Edit: for what it's worth, yay to me for missing the actual point of your post, which I find myself in strong agreement with.
